On Bill's 4/25 show Gary Shandling asked, "How high do gas prices have to get (according to the bible) for it to be the end of the world?" Well, what do you think? Are we facing a meltdown or are the prices great for the environment since no one is going anywhere?

If China goes "Green", almost nothing else matters. QED, the contrapositive is also true. If the Chinese continue until they reach their polluting potential, every other country MUST go "Green" to compensate. I am happy for the Chinese and their booming economy. The U.S. became an economic power (in part) through industries which are heavy polluters. Unfortunately, we are the only country that can be allowed to do it that way; what's done is done. EVERY nation must move forward in a new paradigm... including ours. We should focus on our primary strengths in the global economy... agriculture, finance and intellectual property. Almost two-thirds of our GNP is from agriculture: $4 Trillion out of 5.8 Trillion. The GRP of NYC is $500 Billion; if it were a country, it would be the 23rd largest economy in the world... in front of Switzerland and behind Russia. Since, agriculture and NYC account for $4.5 Trillion, we need to move (part of) the other $1.3 Trillion into industries or services which other nations cannot do or cannot do cheaper than us. In the best case scenario, we would figure out a way to grow through cooperation... instead of competition. Competition causes unnecessary pollution. -- Cheers, TwoPairTony (all-in)

I am always in better shape when I am working at a client's Manhattan office. I walk 10x-100x more than I do if I work from home or in another tri-state area "city". If my destination is less than 20 blocks away, I walk. When going across town (especially between 60th and 110th... through Central Park), I will walk even if it is greater than 20 (street) blocks; the distance between each avenue is about 3 street blocks. But, when I go from one side of 42nd to the other, I will use the S train... if I am in a hurry. The (tourist) crowds in Times Square always slow things down. They walk slowly. They wait for the "Walk" signal. -- Cheers, TwoPairTony (all-in)

When the "Lipo Fuel-Cell" Car hits the market, we are saved. Let's figure out a way to run automobiles off of our own fat ass... or gut (in my case). Some of us will be able to travel farther in a Hummer without refueling than those of us driving sub-compacts. But, I have a 5.2 liter V8 Grand Cherokee Limited 4X4. I can drive it when it snows. btw- I am saving to trade the Jeep in for a hybrid + the charger modification; go from 14 mpg (average) to over 100 mpg (average). Also, I check to see where my food comes from now. Buying local produce, dairy and other "Lebensmittel" reduces one's greenhouse gas "footprint" more than anything else an individual can do. Do not buy "MADE IN CHINA" if you can avoid it. The Chinese are opening one new coal-fired power plant per week, to keep up with their growing industries. Each plant produces the greenhouse gas equivalent of 2 Million automobiles. The Chinese are not an "Ocean of Wisdom", but they make an "Atmosphere of Pollution". The Chinese Government are pricks for not freeing Tibet. I digress. -- Cheers, TwoPairTony (all-in)

If the price is about to double, we just need to find ways to only drive half as much. I think ride-sharing is slightly more likely than apocalypse.

I use mass transit for my commute of 25+ miles each way. It takes me about 1.25 hours, each way. If I make decent connections. My car is a 1995 Saturn SL1, 4 cyl.

When are riots going to breakout? Are most people still driving cars with efficiency around teens/low twenties? I am. -- Edited by infoseek at 05/07/2008 7:08 PM PDT

It will be sign of the Apocalypse.... when the Four Horsemen all drive Ford Mustangs. And Pat Robertson and all the evangelists appear on TV in sackcloth and asses. (No, that's not a typo.) Satan appears as a guest on "The O'Reilly Factor" (I'm currently writing the script.) The Harlot from Revelations appears on The View. The Mount Rushmore Four register to vote. And..... Oh yeah, the Statue of Liberty has to get up, cross the Hudson, and walk down Fifth Avenue.

When will it be a sign of the Apocalypse? The climax will be reached when people realize the hoax.
