Christians clash at Jesus' tomb on Orthodox Palm Sunday

JERUSALEM - Dozens of Greek and Armenian priests and worshippers exchanged blows at one of Christianity's holiest shrines on Orthodox Palm Sunday, and used palm fronds to pummel police who tried to break up the brawl.
The fight came amid growing rivalry over religious rights at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, built over the site in Jerusalem where tradition says Jesus was buried and resurrected.
It erupted when Armenian clergy kicked out a Greek priest from their midst, pushed him to the ground and kicked him, according to witnesses.
When police intervened, some worshippers hit them with the palm fronds they were holding for the religious holiday. The Eastern Orthodox churches, including the Armenians and Greek Orthodox, follow a different calendar from Western Christians and celebrate Easter next Sunday.
Two Armenian worshippers who attacked the Greek Orthodox clergy were briefly detained by Israeli police. Scores of Armenian supporters then protested outside the police station during the questioning of the two, beating drums and chanting.
The Holy Sepulcher is shared by several Christian denominations according to a centuries-old arrangement known as the "status quo."
Each denomination jealously guards its share of the basilica, and fights over rights at the church have intensified in recent years, particularly between the Armenians and Greeks.
Father Pakrad, an Armenian priest, said the presence of the Greek priest during the Armenian observances violated the status quo. "Our priests entered the tomb. They kicked the Greek monk out of the Edicule," he said, referring to the tomb area.
Pakrad accused the Greek Orthodox Christians of trying to step on the Armenians' rights. "We are the weak ones, persecuted by them for many centuries."
The Greek Orthodox Patriarch in the Holy Land, Theofilos III, told The Associated Press that the Armenians are pushing to change the rules, challenging what he said was the dominance of the Greek church in the Holy Land.
"This behavior is criminal and unacceptable by all means," he said. "They wanted to trespass on the status quo concerning the order that regulates the services between the various communities."
The Church of the Nativity in nearby Bethlehem -- where Jesus is said to have been born -- also falls under the status quo arrangement. Last year, pre-Christmas cleaning in that church turned ugly when robed Greek Orthodox and Armenian priests went at each other with brooms and stones.

During the latest five debates, how come not one moderator had the balls to ask the combatants how they felt regarding out-sorcing and what to do with the illegal alien problem?

I have been hearing and reading for years about this. I was informed that making fuel from the seeds is not only THE CLEANEST burning fuel, but beyond cheap as the plant grows so fast with little maintenance. I was told this stems from a study from back in the 60's, please say this is similar to what you mean, I am hoping this is what your speaking of, please say yes, lol.

Recently, a politician stated he would sponsor legislation to decriminalize marijuana. I was wondering what progress there has been on this matter and where I could get an estimate of how much money could be saved by not continuing to jail people for simple possession. Thanks.

Alas! Bush mentions sacrifice. And I've bin acting a fool
for some time in order to grab the attention of those
or most who prioritize ball games and fashion trends for
a year now.
The sacrifice goes like this: We're broke! The iraqefeller
War acrues debt! The DJI is based upon Oil (substitute
for Brown's gas tecH) and Banking (which is largely based
upon oil to keep the dollar strong).
The Nations we have been borrowing from are questioning
our ability to pay this debt back-this is a no-brainer!
The shopping bill is about to come in.
If I were a foreign power loaning money to the US,
I'd want everyone to be taxed by way of some form
of RFID! Wouldn't you?
Of course rfid will be billed as protection from Charles
Manson, Larry Flint and Osama Bin Ladden.--DUH!

Bill, again with the Amy Holmes. She's completely useless. Voting for lame ass McCain purely on the fact that he is a conservative is idiotic. Everytime you have her on the show, it takes a turn for the worse. Boring.
You don't have to have a token conservative every show and if you are, try and have someone who has more of a personality. What's wrong with having a one sided liberal show? Allot more could be said without ridiculous interjections, like abstinence works, come on.
Bill, are you banging her or trying to bang her? She'd probably bore you to death with her chat while you did. Let CNN have her, she sucks! You can do better.

I was watching the last debate between the demacrats hosted by MSNBC an thought they were a little hard on Hillary but didn't give it much attention until I was watching world news with Brian Williams on MLK's anniversary. He did a live interview with McCain live while a speech was going on in the background an you couldn't hear a word they were saying. Then it was Hillary's turn recorded earlier with sileince in the background at the same location the spot were the murder took place same as McCain. Then Obama recorded earlier from another state no less in a room so there would be no way for an interruption. Thats when I relized MSNBC is on his nuts. First of all because he is black he doesn't need to even make an appearance he all ready didn't show up for the black caucases. What is he immune because he is black? Maybe we need to spend more millions to investigate MSNBC's sex scandel being all over Obama's nuts !!! Elect Obama see what happens to the country then all these moorons will see how a man with 3 years in Washington will do in one of the worst moments in American history!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bill, you stated "a conspiracy theroy" when Mr Morales tried to talk about drugs and our government . . . what's up with that? As I'm sure you know there is plenty of documentation to support this . . . Did X-president Bush parden co-conspiriters in the drug thing from s. America? As a interested disabled vet, who also got addicted, to the CIA supported herion, after two tours in Vietnam (2 tours is nothing now; those poor boys, this will haunt us for at least 70 years.) At least you should show some respect to Mr. Webb (a fellow journalist; who broke the freeway Ricky, CIA link) who recently commited suicide, after being run to the ground by everyone for telling the truth. Shame on you . . . I have lost a lot of respect for you . . . make it right.

Apparently you haven't really suffered at the hands of true male bashers before or you would understand that what Senator Clinton is truly doing is running for the office of President of the United States. She has to do that against Senator Obama in this race, and yes, it is true, he is a man. It is also painfully true for some of you that she is a woman. But just because she is trying to get her message out and being assertive does not mean that she is simply just attacking his male-hood to get the female vote. Sorry bro, but "that dog don't hunt anymore!!!"
For one thing, she is not always very popular with women in this country who believe that she should have changed the locks on The White House front door when she found out about Monica-but instead chose to forgive, not condone Bill Clinton's behavior and keep their marriage together. So if she were only courting the female vote, as you infer, she would not even be an issue at this point because she would be so out of this primary!!!! Your view, while interesting, is very simplistic, and does not take into account the vast amount of supporters that these two candidates have from both genders, many races, political parties, financial and philosophical points of view. Further, to bring into the fray the possibility that Senator Obama is afraid to and hasn't attacked Senator Clinton, but if he did that the 2nd amendment of this Constitution would need to be repealed and to elude that the guns would be aimed at him instead of Hillary is pure fantasy!!!
To live in the illusion that Obama is not waging the same tough war that Clinton is for this nomination is truly amazing and somewhat childlike. Yeah, let's blame Hillary for all the male haters in the world and the repeal of the 2nd amendment!! Way to keep the debate on the real issues such as, the economy, getting our troops home, the environment, health care and educating our citizens!!!!!
