CNN reports that The Republican National Committee is upping their efforts in attacking Barack Obama with targeted websites. But what about "private" parties? Independent groups with airtime. How would they attack the candidates in the running right now?

> So what are the issues that would sink Obama's > campaign? > > What can Obama do to counter them? Last night on Washington Week in Review, they talked about what looked like both campaign strategies. McCain is trying to reach out to the groups that strongly supported Hillary - elderly, women, working class whites. McCain also seems to be using experience as his positives, and trying to distance himself from Bush. Obama and the Democrats will focus on McCain's close ties with Bush, basically saying you can be experienced in politics and foreign affairs and still be wrong in your judgment and decisions. If the economy keeps tanking, the experience factor isn't going to play well with McCain, since his record isn't particularly stellar in this area. -- Jane HBO Forums Host

So what are the issues that would sink Obama's campaign? What can Obama do to counter them?

Thank you for your service, Pappy. It is indeed sad that the mainstream media has disintegrated into little more than a rumor mill.

As a Vietnam veteran (1966-1967) I can tell you that anyone who still believes in anything that the GOP or the swift boat jerks say as truth is not only delusional but down right anti-American in my book. I researched what the swift boat traitors put out as fact only to find out that for the most part it was completely made up. Our own Navy disputed their claims as they found NOTHING to warrent the lie's they were spreading and in fact put out that part of Kerry's record to show that what he recieved as medals he had in fact earned. Most of the swift boat gang had in fact never met John Kerry and in fact those that did confirmed his account of what happened in each of their separate reports to the higher ups. This so called group of patriots are nothing more than Anti-American liers whose only claim to fame is what they make up and pass off as truth. I would personally not hesitate to call them traitors to their faces any time. As for me I will never believe anything they or the GOP say on ANY issue given the track record of the last eight years. If this were the wild West they would have been stung up on the nearest tree and left to swing in the breeze. Do I expect them to try the same tactics as before YES I do but I believe that the American people are getting wiser and more informed now and fully expect them not to fall for the same old same old. If the voters are looking for a candidate that does not have any flaws or skeletons in their closet then they will have to vote for "NONE OF THE ABOVE" as there will NEVER be a candidate that will be accepted by all. This country deserves better than the swift boat loonies and their followers. We have had to many good Americans give their all over the last 200 years to let the swift boat crowd ruin what this great country has always stood for which includes honesty, integrety, compassion. To have a so called brother in arms tear down ANYONES acheivments while in the military is beyond every decent human beings comprehension and should be condemed by us all.

Jane, I like that site, thanks for sharing it. I hope as the campaign rolls along a lot of other topics will be added to the list. What's your take on it?

> > So does anyone think the recent attacks on > Michelle > > Obama will be part of a larger campaign this > fall? > > Are they not warranted? I would much prefer a campaign based on the issues and the candidates rather than spouses, but it's also part of the baggage associated with running for president these days. Let no dirty laundry go unexamined. Has anyone seen McCainpedia (http://www.mccainpedia.org)? What do you think of this approach by the DNC? -- Jane HBO Forums Host

Jim, Yeah, there is no bottom to how low the GOP campaign promoters will delve as they've proved over and over. Obama's daughters aren't even safe.

Yeah, to most, but they'd still run on it if it came down to it. I mean they resorted to "if a democrat wins, the terrorists will attack again" already...
