Urban Legends and Presidential Politics

Even presidential primary season has its share of urban legends, such as:

"Illinois Senator Barack Obama is a 'radical Muslim' who will not recite the Pledge of Allegiance. (See: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp)

Or that:

"A recent study shows President George W. Bush has the lowest IQ of all presidents of the last 50 years." (See: http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/hoaxes/presiq.asp)

What urban legend do you think will have the most power in this year's primaries and national election?

Just because they could, doesn't mean they would. Most of the people I know at work, who have insurance, don't want to go to the doctor for every little sniffle and cough. And I work in a hospital. Mostly, they'll give it a day or two of fluids and rest, and see if it goes away.

But besides that... most of the rest of the world already has Universal Health Care, or socialized medicine. They don't have the problems you foresee. There are waiting lists, sure. But it's a trade off.

In other countries, for elective surgery, it might take a year to have the elective surgery.

Here, you can have that surgery today... but it will probably take you two year's worth of take-home wages to pay for it.

Obama Distinguishes Between "pro-Israel" and pro-Likud

from LobeLog.com

http://www.ips.org/blog/jimlobe/?p=109#more-109

Barack Obama reportedly said something very
important and long overdue to a group of some
100 Cleveland Jewish leaders on Sunday - that
being pro-Likud and being "pro-Israel" are two
different things.

"I think there is a strain within the pro-Israel
community that says unless you adopt a
unwavering pro-Likud approach to Israel that
you're anti-Israel and that can't be the measure
of our friendship with Israel. If we cannot have
an honest dialogue about how do we achieve
these goals, then we're not going to make
progress."

He said even more about the confined nature of
the debate over Israel and its security in this
country, according to the dispatch in the Jewish
Telegraph Agency (JTA).

http://www.jta.org/cgi-bin/iowa/breaking/107170.html
Apparently in defense of his consultations with
Zbigniew Brzezinski, who has been harshly critical
of neo-conservative influence in the Bush
administration, Obama said:

"Frankly some of the commentary that I've seen
which suggests guilt by association or the notion
that unless we are never ever going to ask any
difficult questions about how we move peace
forward or secure Israel that is non military or
non belligerent or doesn't talk about just crushing
the opposition that that somehow is being soft or
anti-Israel, I think we're going to have problems
moving forward."

And he contrasted those constraints on the debate
here with the breadth and vigor of the discussion
of those same issues in Israel itself.

(quote)

"There was a very honest, thoughtful debate
taking place inside Israel. All of you, I'm sure,
have experienced this when you travel there.
Understandably, because of the pressure that
Israel is under, I think the U.S. pro-Israel
community is sometimes a little more protective
or concerned about opening up that conversation.
But all I'm saying though is that actually ultimately
should be our goal, to have that same clear-eyed
view about how we approach these issues."

The staunchly pro-Likud New York Sun is carrying a
partial transcript of the meeting it obtained from the
Obama campaign.

the biggest most important urban legend in this years election is: Universal Health Care

I don't know about you, but i only care about my own families health, What the rest of the universe does is up to them.

Can you imagine what the US would be like if everyone could go to the doctor for every little sniffle and cough... OMG either we are going to have to employ 100,000 mexican doctors, 250,000 indian doctors and 1.4 billion student doctors... or we are going to have to kill off most americans.. although.. that may be one in the same...

Obama may be an introverted, radical Muslim,

He has supporters such as Farrakan, and his supporters, that he only denounce when the media becomes aware of. Is he planning on returning the individual contributions, the mosque required each individual to give? That was a great way to hide the contributions.

His current minister has made anti-semantic remarks, but Obama and his family remain members of the church.

He will not be the first in America to smile in your face, and make racial, or religious remarks about you when your back is turned.

America always talk with forked tongues.

Like the apology to Native Americans made by the Senate, this week. Any Native American believe that any that signed that resolution is sincere? I don't

good thread.

excerpt from link below

Barack and Hussein are Semitic words. Americans
have been named with Semitic names since the
founding of the Republic. Fourteen of our 43
presidents have had Semitic names. And, American
English contains many Arabic-derived words that
we use every day and without which we would be
much impoverished. America is a world civilization
with a world heritage, something Cunninghamism
will never understand.
