How will it change...

How has Senator Kennedy changed the face of politics? What will change in the wake of his passing?

Bart,

Yep, death scares the shit out of all of us. All the more reason to address it up front. Unfortunately, most of us don't address it until a casket is sinking into the ground (in itself a shame). We can do better!

Thanks Dan!!!

I know death is eventually gonna get me. I just hope it's a lot less painful than I've watched relatives go.

Adding "deathcare" to the debate scares Republicans, even when they add it to the debate themselves. Which is pretty odd and pathetic on their part.

By the way Bart,

Heart disease is my own genetic marker and I'm already overdue.

Don't be surprised...

I'm GOOD with that!

Bartman,

My condolences (sincerely). My point is whether or not you want it, death is gonna get you. Doesn't particularly matter how, that's just the fact of it. In the face of a national 'healthcare' debate, it just struck me that we might ALSO want to include a national 'deathcare' debate as well, since that's what it's all REALLY about anyway. Just me.

Dan, I've watched too many of my family and friends die of cancer, including my father right in front of me, my grandfather and my grandmother. My has had it off and on since 1994. When I go, although I'm pretty sure that cancer is what will get me...that's not the way I want it to go down.

Cancer is as cancer does. A LOT of us are going to die from it (although we don't yet know it), and AMAZINGLY, it won't even be the worst thing that ever happens to most of us. Whether fortunately, unfortunately, or otherwise, it will be merely be the thing that kills us. UNFORTUNATELY, DEATH, is the ultimate fortune of us ALL. DEAL with it.

That's the thing about cancer...that phuckin' disease. Sometimes, no matter how hard you fight it back with medicine, chemo, radiation etc., it takes over and will not be stopped. I wouldn't wish it on anyone and their family. Anyone hoping for "the piece of shit" to die of it...hope your family never has to deal with cancer. Hopefully no one will be such as assh*le as to say or think the same thing of you.

As the good Senator has said himself, getting HCR passed has been his life's work. It's been a goal of his since he started in the Senate, passed down to him from his bothers.

How has he changed the fact of politics?

I think that Jack actually changed the face of politics first, but Teddy picked up that mantle when Jack and Bobby were killed. And he's never let it down. Yes, he's had issues that were not in his favor, the car accident, the divorce, etc. but deep down, Teddy kept up the good fight for equality and justice and really made a difference in MA as well as the USA as a whole. He's certainly provided a role model to his brother's children and encouraged them to make a difference in the world.

What will change in the wake of his passing?

I think it may provide an opening for some of the 3rd generation of that family, to make their voices heard in National politics, but we'll see. There will certainly be a void when he does pass, and hopefully, someone with his kind of leadership and compassion can pick up his mantle and carry it on.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Senator Kenedy and his family. I've dealt with brain cancer in my family and it is a devastating way to go. It could still be a while before he ultimately leaves and I'm glad he's encouraging the state to make provisions for his vote.

This is the same guy who killed a young woman right?? Or do people forget those things because of what he did after that?

He has done a lot of good...but he will still never measure up to his brothers. The Kennedy legacy will last eternally...and I cant help but think his name will not be at the top of everyone's favorite Kennedy on that list.

With that said...I believe he will be more respected and loved after his passing and his accomplishments will all be looked back on with a bit more compassion and more along the lines of the Kennedy's legacy of helping the American people from all aspect of the government. He will be missed and he will be honored because he has done so much good...and even though he is not one of the most loved Kennedy's...he has been able to restore his name and his honor...and deserves to be held right up there with his brothers.

"Teddy Kennedy has been working on health care for decades."

Then why does it still suck? Or was the question just answered?

Teddy Kennedy has been working on health care for decades. It's so poignant that this big chance to really get it done happened right when his own cancer happened. When he didn't attend his sister's recent funeral, I assumed that meant his own health is very bad right now.

He's been a very respected and loved Senator for such a long time. His state, Mass, is successful in so many quality of life indicators, education especially.

For many of us the loss of another Kennedy, a family known for good ideals despite their human foibles just like the rest of us, will remind us of all the other tragedies in that family.

I hope luck will be on his side enough that he lives long enough to see a good bill passed.

Well, I certainly hope the shavetails don't rush a vote on a 'shavetail' measure on his account. THAT would CERTAINLY be an enduring blackmark on both of their accounts. Although the shavetails might certainly deserve such a legacy, Ted Kennedy most certainly does not.

"Ailing Kennedy seeks to have seat filled quickly, if needed, as Congress eyes health overhaul."

Sad but we knew it was coming.

Good vibes going his way.
