So he is promoting himself. About the writers. They stink since the writer's strike. Sometimes people hold grudges too long. Also when you have the same people around you too long as employees, some will become complacent, and lazy. Bill has many of the same writers since Politically Correct. My suggestion, get rid of the dead weight, and keep them as your friends, not your employee. Friends and employees, they should never be the same. -- "The fellow that agrees with everything you say is either a fool or he is getting ready to skin you." Kin Hubbard

CBunny, I hope they won't cancel RT. There's no other show that can replace it. If anything, they'll probably need to publicize it more, by investing more celebrity appearances and writers for Mr. Maher to cross promote.

I wonder why is the next season starting so late? Usually he starts in the middle of January. Now, he doesn't even have a date when he starts in February. If HBO cancels Real Time, I will cancel HBO. Why waste the 20 bucks per month for HBO and Cinemax? Cinemax is just reruns. HBO only has Real Time and True Blood. True Blood is not half as entertaining as Real Time. So I wait until I hear a date for Real Time's return. -- "The fellow that agrees with everything you say is either a fool or he is getting ready to skin you." Kin Hubbard

Just caught the show this evening, and it was good. I could not understand the comment from the audience? Ashton Kutcher was quite animated and passionate. Dan Savage asked for it. La Cubana could not offer a rational explanation in defense of current drug policy. Good that Bill brought the subject up, but it didn't have enough time.

Host Jim: "Bill's off until Febuary, what are you going to do until then?" The only reason I got HBO (and a cable box) was to watch this show! I guess now that the season is over, I will be canceling HBO until February. Got to cut back spending in these tough economic times!

I saw those commercials, too, but I think I remember seeing that it was neither a McCain official ad, nor an RNC ad, but another group paying for it. There were some sleazy ads put out by the RNC, but I do think the Congresswoman was right that McCain did oppose the use of Wright in his campaign ads. As has been pointed out a lot, when you don't have a message or a disjointed one, ads tend to focus on attacking the person rather than the message. The one thing I disagreed with was Bill's seeming attack on the Senate system. I can see why people think the electoral system is flawed, but the balance in the House and Senate keeps a check on large states with the Senate makeup and small states with the House. -- Jane HBO Forums Host -- Edited by Host_Jane at 11/17/2008 8:19 AM PST -- Edited by Host_Jane at 11/17/2008 8:19 AM PST

This is the first time I've posted here. I love Bill and have watched him long before HBO. Something in this 11/4/08 Episode really got me pissed off. Bill was talking about how disgustingly the McCain campaign attacked Obama. His guest, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, disagreed and was asked "What didn't they do to him?" Her reply was that they didn't play the race card and didn't drag up Rev. Wright and his comments. This is a complete and outright LIE!!! During Monday NIGHT FOOTBALL the NIGHT BEFORE THE ELECTION I started seeing commercials evoking Rev. Wright as a reason to not vote for Obama. Let me repeat this was DURING Monday NIGHT FOOTBALL THE NIGHT BEFORE THE ELECTION!!! This was not local advertising, it was an eleventh hour attempt to throw all civility out the window and win by any means necessary. Bill is usually very good with his facts, but he seems to have missed this one. I wish he would have called her out on her lie or her complete lack of knowlege of the dealings of her own party.

What did that guy in the audience say? I thought he mentioned Mc Cain and defense. I thought Bill was going to jump down into the audience again. I crack up whenever he loses control of his show. This season, Bill is getting tough. He tells the panel members to end the conversation. He will tells them he is moving on to another topic. He even said "Shut up". This season was boring because I seen the same guests on before, but amusing to see Bill gain control. He is acting like a New Yorker again, rude and in control. I am proud of him. -- "The fellow that agrees with everything you say is either a fool or he is getting ready to skin you." Kin Hubbard

I guess I should have started my first post ever by saying that I love Bill Maher and watch every week. It was upsetting to me that this issue was passed over.

"Moving on"??? What?! Bill Maher sometimes seems to be the only mainstreamED talk show host to support legalizing. Bill, how could you brush over the most underrated issue in our government's changing direction. We didn't get to hear anyone's argument, and there wasn't a mention of the fact that there are people locked in cages for having marijuana found on their person or property. It is a TRUE outrage. does the issue of gay marriage touch the importance of an issue like the legalization of marijuana? Who is getting arrested and held in prison for anything having to do with gay marriage? Billionaires getting bailed out? Yes, this is important. Still there aren't non-violent, honorable people being kept in prison due to the bailout. How can this be an issue that is on the backburner? How can we keep getting responses like "well, yeah, but" and "that's different" when we compare the legal status' of alcohol and pot? remember that this isn't just an inconvenience to people who want to smoke weed. Prohibition puts non-threatening people in a REAL jail cell every day. It really isn't something to brush over, and I was surprised that Bill didnt care more for that discussion.

Host Jim: "Bill's off until Febuary, what are you going to do until then?" Somehow I will manage to survive my otherwise exciting life Episode 140 was quite good. No one was screaming at another and no one spoke over another. I always enjoy New Rules and Bill's ending speech. I realize Bill is entitled to his vacation time to relax and/or persue other interests, however, I do wish his season(s) were extended. Most especially now, the time before Obama's official move to the White House.
