President Obama's promised healthcare reform is now in the house. Nothing is definite yet, the detail to be hammered out. What components would you like to see included in the legislation? Are you in favor of a single payer system? Why or why not?

Just a side note... The vendors of my company's health care plans have officially informed us to expect a "significant" rate increase. There wasn't a number attached to it.

i'm not sure if the "budget reconciliation" rule applies with the health care reform bill, but if it does, there can be no fillibuster.

They're not. ... "To start with, the e-mail seems to assume ? though it doesn't say so explicitly ? that the health care reform plan sends everyone into a new public plan. This is not the case." ... ... "Under the bill, the lawmakers would continue to receive the same insurance they get now, just as most Americans would." ...

I need some help from the fact people on the boards. I'm getting E-mails that it is written in the bill that members of congress are exempt from receiving government healthcare, unlike their cadillac care. Jared- Don17000?

Republican obstructionists claim they were not part of the process. Now that the bill is in the Senate for debate, they try to stop that debate from happening. Asshats.

And who benefits if the system changes? Being a proud member of the ever shrinking middle class, I guess I prefer an answer where the benefits don't totally accrue to the top 1 percent.

America (and a lot of other countries) will go "bankrupt" with healthcare costs no matter what. But since other developed countries have their basic healthcare centralized they will be less "bankrupt" which means that - yes - more and more of their GDP will go to healthcare but it will be more MANAGEABLE than the current US system in place. This means healthcare costs will creep up for everyone in average but no one individual will be in financial ruin from them. All countries have attributes to their healthcare systems which are stupid and could be fixed. But if it's centralized they have more leverage to fix these problems and keep up with more problems as they arise. >>>When Americans consider the term healthcare, they are in truth only asking WHO WILL PAY FOR IT?.......Who in the FUCK do you think is going to pay for it? The American public. There is no other way. And the solution is single payer with manageable premiums and copays- along with the requirement that ALL who can pay do pay. And can we get off the abortion issues already (for both paranoid prolife Palins and prochoice people)? No public healthcare will pay for abortions of health pregnancies. Use common sense and keep this debate out of the healhcare bill. An abortion to a healthy pregnancy is not a treatment for a sickness. You want an abortion to a healthy pregnancy? Then pay for it yourself. Or get your boyfriend to to it. Or find some fund or charity to do it that would be separate from the public system. It's YOUR business.

Nations don't go bankrupt as individuals do. The United States is not bankrupt as long as our economy is strong enough. That's whats going to pull us out of the recession- not balanced budgets.

America WILL go bankrupt regardless. It's the (as yet) great unreported story. The bankruptcy was begun under Reagan, continued, if somewhat ameliorated under Bush I and Clinton, and then COMPLETELY EMBRACED under Bush II and Obama. REGARDLESS what happens to any proposed healthcare legislation, the American government can't pay for it anyway! Who are we fooling? When Americans consider the term healthcare, they are in truth only asking WHO WILL PAY FOR IT? Look around America. Your government is bankrupt and so collectively are you. Who in the FUCK do you think is going to pay for it? Hint: if you don't have the means yourself, it just ain't gonna happen. Welcome to the WORLD! DaN
