Am I the only one outraged by Justice Kennedy's comment that: "The death penalty is not a proportional punishment for the rape of a child,"? While it does not amount to the loss of physical life, I think it needs to be acknowledged that it amounts to the death of innocence, and for many children victims it does bring about emotional and developmental death. Basically when you rape a child you rob that child pretty much of the chance of a normal life. Should that go unpunished, or punished so lightly? Is it possible to rehabilitate a pedophile? I somehow don't think it is.

I think the answer lies in raising Americans who know it's wrong to kill, rape, etc. That we have so many of them who don't is a reflection on our society and culture. It's wrong to kidnap people and steal as well; why don't you oppose incarceration and fines? The prison nation is a mirror reflecting back at society a hundred kinds of dysfunction, neglect and abuse that have resulted in more and more criminals every year. A disproportional amount of violence and other problems is caused by lifers. Did you ever stop to think that if we simply got rid of LWOP and killed them off, it would improve the conditions and make it easier to rehabilitate lesser offenders? To live in a country dominated by Christians who advocate killing, war, and torture and vote accordingly for representatives who do as well is infuriating. The hypocrisy is sickening, not just to me but to our society as a whole. Separate issues. I for one don't support the war, but it has nothing to do with DP either way. IDL Bush either, but not everything is about politics. The United States has the highest documented incarceration rate,[3][4] and total documented prison population in the world.[5][6] As of year-end 2006, a record 7.2 million people were behind bars, on probation or on parole. Of the total, 2.2 million were incarcerated. More than 1 in 100 American adults were incarcerated at the start of 2008. The People's Republic of China ranks second with 1.5 million, despite having over four times the population of the US The reason that the US has the highest incarceration rate is because it criminalizes so many things that other countries do not, and gives disproportionately harsh punishments to existing crimes while other countries give more reasonable sentences, to fuel the prison industrial complex and enforce socially-imposed morality. I was in prison myself for sleeping with my fiance (now wife); so I too was a victim of this. However, Kennedy is a RAPIST. Executing him is a little different from locking someone up for theft or drugs. -- ............./´¯/). ..........(\¯`\ ............/....// ..............\\.... \ .........../....//. ...............\\... .\ ...../´¯/..../´¯\.. ........./¯`\....\¯` \ .././.../..../..../ .|_......_|.\....\.. ..\...\.\.. To kill those people is to double the inhumanity that brought them to where they are in the first place. As you can see, that makes me livid. But never so livid I kill people or cheer while someone else kills them. To live in a country dominated by Christians who advocate killing, war, and torture and vote accordingly for representatives who do as well is infuriating. The hypocrisy is sickening, not just to me but to our society as a whole. Except for the middle east is there any country in which religion has such a toxic effect on politics and the government as it does here in the US? One more thing that makes our wars with them so ironic.

Rainy--I just hit the ignore button, for the Ann Coulter clone, Henry, and a few other fleas. That was a great post, btw, the one Jet complimented you on. So here's the deal...if there's 30 million inmates on death row...and the average cost per is $3.75 million...that adds up to $112.5 TRILLION!!

You got some woman to marry you? OMG Put her on the computer so I can hit her up with some abuse hotline numbers. Just in case she ends up a lump of 'collateral damage'.

Kids are already reluctant to turn in their abusers, often feel a tremendous amount of guilt for sending away their loved one. Imagine how many fewer would come forward knowing they'd be sending their loved one off to die. Collateral damage. Why should the ones who do report be denied proper justice because of the ones who don't? If you don't report, that's your problem, but other victims shouldn't suffer because of YOUR choices. Besides, unless his state puts pedos in PC, he's going to die anyway. So...you do worry about those pesky court mistakes...just not quite enough to protect folks from dying from those mistakes. Most cases of child rape are unreported. Of the ones that are, one in 3 girls and one in 5 boys are molested or incested before the age of 18, or about a quarter of all children. That's rape. Let's say 10% of population are the abusers, and they're caught and convicted, that'd be about 30 million people on death row. 85 to 90% of the victims know their abuser, usually a family member, father, mother, brother, etc. Stranger danger is largely a myth. Are you ready to give mom the happy needle? Kids are already reluctant to turn in their abusers, often feel a tremendous amount of guilt for sending away their loved one. Imagine how many fewer would come forward knowing they'd be sending their loved one off to die.

I personally have never attended an execution; unfortunately my state is rather pussy about DP and I don't get the opportunity. 10inches, Awww, that's a damn shame. You really should consider maybe taking a vacation to witness one. Wouldn't that be fun, Christian? Whoo, what a rush, huh?

Ohhh, Christian likes THIS METHOD!!! Righhht. Yeah, that pretty much fit y'alls MO, so to speak. Thiopental is an ultra-short acting barbiturate that may wear off (anesthesia awareness) and lead to consciousness and an excruciatingly painful death wherein the inmate is unable to express his pain because he has been rendered paralyzed by the paralytic agent. Opponents point to the fact that sodium thiopental is typically used as an induction agent and not used in the maintenance phase of surgery because of its short acting nature. Following the administration of thiopental, pancuronium bromide is given. Opponents argue that pancuronium bromide not only dilutes the thiopental, but (since the inmate is paralyzed) also prevents the inmate from expressing pain. Additional concerns have been raised over whether inmates are administered an appropriate level of thiopental due to the rapid redistribution of the drug out of the brain to other parts of the body. Teresa Zimmers, a molecular biologist from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, has commented that the amount of thiopental administered to those being executed "would be an unacceptably low dose if the inmate was a pig scheduled for euthanasia."[24] Additionally, opponents argue that the method of administration is also flawed. They state that since the personnel administering the lethal injection lack expertise in anesthesia the risk of failing to induce unconsciousness is greatly increased. Also, they argue that the dose of sodium thiopental must be customized to each individual patient, not restricted to a set protocol. Finally, the remote administration results in an increased risk that insufficient amounts of the lethal injection drugs enter the bloodstream. In total, opponents argue that the effect of dilution or improper administration of thiopental is that the inmate dies an agonizing death through suffocation due to the paralytic effects of pancuronium bromide and the intense burning sensation caused by potassium chloride. killed any puppies or kittens lately, Killer or is the thrill of watching executions enough to satisfy your blood lust??
