I wonder if anyone else follows the activities of their elected officials. Congress has a newsletter called MegaVote which lets you know what is on the floor, what is coming up to debate, and how your publicly elected officials voted on issues. I'm generally appalled by the voting record of Bob Goodlatte, who, once you have it laid out like the newsletter, is blatantly voting against the constituency. Yet last election was elected to his 6th term (he has generally run unopposed, but int he last election was opposed by a very young Democrat who lost by the skin of his teeth). I consistently write and tell him that I am disappointed in his vote on the specific issues, and on the rare occasions that he does vote in favor of the people of this district I have thanked him for his support. I have never once received a reply from him. I consistently receive commentary from Jim Web and Mark Warner, whether I have thanked them or disagreed. So the question is, do you track your representatives? Do you voice your opinions on their votes before and after the fact? What do you do with a politician who is documented to repeatedly vote against the people he is supposed to represent?

The question I would ask is not if I agree politically, but do I think they are voting honestly or politically. The house gets reelected about 98% of the time. While the senate gets reelected about 93% of the time. The foxes run the hen house. They decide where the districts are, fixing for a lifetime job. Those that run the committees have been in Washington for decades, so any new pups must got through them and play their game. These people have been paid off for decades and are only interested in there interests. Two names, John Murtha and Charlie Rangel. And by the time the new pups are in charge, they act like the old ones. There is a reason when a new CEO/manager is hired, they fire supervisors and some other higher ranking employees, because these people are stuck in the old days. If you don't understand, Obama was elected, and we sent him a few new "employees", but we kept the same people in charge, just changing the guy at the top and some at the bottom. The vast majority of the power lies in the middle, that is who we need to focus on.

Host Donna, We get what they give us. The medias made it sound like we've a fighting chance and that's it. The bailout tossed away everything that's ever right about this country. It's a done business.

You're very welcome, guys. Yeah, Jim, I know what you mean, lol. I was surprised when I found it. Don't know why I never mentioned it before. And I probably just thought of it today because I fired off more hate-mail to Goodlatte yesterday. Yeah, Rainy, very depressing as far as our congressional rep, but I am very encouraged by Webb and Warner. If we could just get Goodlatte out the door, we'd be in pretty good shape. But 99.9% of the time, my blood is boiling when I read his votes. Info, so how do we change it? Do they really care? How many irate letters does it take? Or is it the same old song, strength in numbers? -- Edited by Host_DonnaA at 10/29/2009 6:57 PM PDT

We're the most fucked up state no WH will ever give a fuck about. We're the state that allowed Enron to kill our elders. Our Senators have been around forever! If that doesn't say corruption, then I don't know what does. The list goes on and on.

Thanks, Donna I don't check what mine are doing because it's always bad news, Kansas just has a couple of idiotic republican senators and my rep is a blue dog. I think reps have controlled this state for 80 years so I feel pretty apathetic. We had a dem gov, Sebelius, but she's in Obama's cabinet now.
