What are your New Rules?

Hello Bill Maher fans -

As you all know, due to the WGA strike there are no New Rules on Real Time with Bill Maher. However, with the primaries in full swing and Bush in the Middle East we recognize the need for them! So - we're creating this thread hoping that you'll tell us YOUR new rules!

If we get enough usable submissions, we'll put together a feature on HBO.com.

New rule: Stop saying; Things Are Getting Better. Things are not getting better. It is a romantic notion though, sounds like a love story; Things Are Getting Better. But, like most love stories, there?s a lot left out. Like the time she got drunk and fucked her father in-law?s nephew. Looses its romantic feeling, but gains a realistic, more detailed touch. Those pesky details, ruins the?

?Headline Story; A security guard was crushed to death by a herd of black Friday shoppers at Wal-Mart, today.? That?s a real -and uniquely true- news headline, recorded last year. Again, ?a security guard was crushed to death by a herd of black Friday shoppers at Wal-Mart, today!? Things are getting better? Really? There exist a group of people, referred to as a herd! They?re not even people, they?re ah? herd! By definition: A large group of domestic animals! A Herd of black-Friday Shoppers! Not a very romantic title, sounds more like a horror movie to me, not a love story, but pretty entertaining and surely not getting any better.

So, if you really believe that things are getting better, please show me the numbers, or some type of evidence to back your claim. Or get the fuck outta my way cause that god-damn flat-screen?s mine!!!

New Rule: If you have beef with my burnt turkey, you may end up with a bashed rear window of your car. Too!

Guys, come on. The day you need to be polite and quiet is the day you do the lesser of the work. If your spouse spent most of the day making a semi splendid dinner for you and your family. Don't find a reason to be a bitch.

Give thanks for someone who cares. Everyday

In my imagined flash of brilliance, I had forgotten to mention that we should forget that as well... Insurance premiums, much like the numbers my scale reports, will always rise, no matter what we do...

Please ignore the fact that we all know in advance that the insurance industry will keep on charging premiums at just the same rate as they have been.

Not in my experience...premiums continue to rise.

New Rule:

Quit whining about whether a government-insured healthcare option will 'raise taxes' or not. DUH. Of course, your taxes will go up, if the government is going to provide an additional service. It's a false choice. Even I know that (T + I > T). What a lousy trick to pull on the American Public. Silly Republicans - tricks are for kids!
The question that we should be asking these days is this: "Will the taxes to pay for a government-backed Public Option plus my future health insurance premium cost me more than my current taxes and my current health insurance premium do?" That answer is no, or at least, it should be, because the new equation SHOULD be: Let T represent current Taxes, I Insurance Pool dollars, A insurance industry Administrative costs of about 500%, and a represent government administrative costs of about 2%. [T + (I + A500)] > [(T + I + a2) + (A500)]. (Yeah, I've left out the multipliers for the numbers of people using administrative costs, because those numbers will change, but the overall trend of costs to taxpayers will not.) Current Taxes + current Healthcare Premiums are more than the new tax rate (which would absorb the Uninsured/Uninsurable) plus your new insurance premium rate. The government's administrative fees are cheaper because the Government doesn't have "training seminars" in Barbados, nor humonguous offshore accounts in the Caymans. ALL taxpayers would come out ahead, even those with Cadillac coverage, no matter how big a smoke screen the insurance industry has set up.
The reasons are these: the citizens who will be immediately shown the door from their current health care (you know -- the ones who need it), and the currently-uninsured citizens will be absorbed into the pool of the Publicly Insured (or, the Untouchables), the most expensive patients.
This new pool of the Publicly Insured Untouchables will relieve the insurance industry of pretty much all its responsibilities. This would lighten Accounts Payable, in turn substantially lowering overall insurance premium costs for the Privately Insured. (All currently-insured minus those who use their coverage = a lot fewer people for insurance companies to pretend they're covering, while still charging them 500% administrative fees.)
Meanwhile, the Untouchables will move from paying into a pool to cover their medical expenses plus 500% administrative fees (or going to Emergency Rooms for all medical attention as they now must, with the same financial result to taxpayers), into paying into a pool to cover their medical expenses plus 2% administrative fees (that's my most-current information regarding administrative costs for Medicare -- which may have increased some since 1980).
If our collective taxes rise to cover the Untouchables in this much-cheaper governmental administrative environment, the insurance premiums remaining to the Insurable should be offset by at least that amount -- in theory, anyway. America should be thinking of a Public Option as 'getting rid of the dead pool.' We could also frame it as 'finally getting those freeloaders' (sorry, Untouchables) 'to pay their own way.' We can sound self-righteous and Republican if we say it that way -- it's the American Way, after all.
As a matter of fact, it occurs to me to ask why the insurance industry fights this so much. What on Earth have they got to lose? Credibility?

New Rule: Stop putting flagger signs out, when there aren't any flaggers out. I'm an American! I'm in a hurry! I can't be slowing down for no reason! Plus I'm trying to drive, and talk on the phone, pop a Xanex, sip a coffee, eat and adjust my belt to allow room for bloating. So please, show some consideration! Only put flagger signs out, when flaggers are out! Or I'm going to call your bluff, and finally have a good reason to slow down and stop, to check for damage on my car after I hit a flagger.
