Democrats booed Bush in his state of the union speech. Protesters interrupted his speeches also. So, stop with the fake out rage and stop being stupid, if you can.

RainyKincaid, I admire Obama so much for always being a gentleman and statesman. It's all the more striking when compared to the knuckleheads in the GOP. How sweet, are you in love? He is always a genleman and just so wonderful, and lovely, and a statesman and an idiot, who is wrecking this nation, but hey, he is a gentleman. Right there is the only reason he was elected, because of appearances.

I have to say, it's hard to think Wilson wasn't lying. I mean, the guy is a congressman, and the info has been out there for quite a while now. So he was either lying, or he is monumentally and willfully ignorant...and I do mean willfully. As a congressman, you would have to try really really hard, imo, to NOT know the truth about these bills.

What I know is that Douglas and Lincoln were already friends and rivals for many years before those debates. It would be taking it rather far to claim that Douglas was a "supporter" though. Like many Democrats of the time, Douglas put politics aside to fight against secession and supported the Lincoln administration's moves to defend against the breakup of the Nation. Douglas' died early in the new administration- he never would have served that term that he sought. I am not going to cut Wilson any slack. This is not a case of his being mistaken. Many of the more irresponsible Republicans in Congress told their followers that the Democratic House bill had "death panels" and that it spelled out coverage to illegal aliens- both are provable falsehoods and the irresponsible Righties knowingly told it. What you are doing is suspending disbelief in judging Wilson. In fact, I don't know if he is as deluded as he seems or whether he is just some asshole who will stick to his lies come hell or high water. Either way Wilson is unfit to hold any public office. Wilson and his type don't think they owe President Obama any respect for various "reasons." Of course it all goes back to the President's skin tone. Wilson doesn't think Obama is legitmate and gives him no respect. I don't think that Wilson is legitmate and I cut him zero slack. Let him choke on his lies.

I wonder how the other developed countries are doing as far as homelessness. In Canada, Australia and the UK do they have millions of homeless people living in the streets like we do here? We've grown accustomed to it, it's been a problem for so many decades now. When I was a little kid it was so rare. There were hobos but they were almost all adult men. Now I think women and children outnumber the men.

http://www.mcclatchydc.com/226/story/75128.html?storylink=omni_popular Good article by McClatchy on the squatter phenom in California where so many houses have been and will be vacant for months if not years and hundreds of thousands of citizens are homeless. Well, the banks are such culprits in this recession and the State and Fed seem to be incapable of adequately rescuing people from homelessness, I don't see anything morally wrong with people squatting wherever they can, shelter here and there, even for a few months is better than none. I know this is technically illegal but desperate times call for desperate measures.

I wonder how many years it will take us to recover from the recession Bush/Cheney left as their legacy. * Posted on Thursday, September 10, 2009 By Tony Pugh | McClatchy Newspapers WASHINGTON ? The early impact of the worst recession since the 1930s pushed median incomes down, forced millions more people into poverty and left more Americans without health care in 2008, according to new annual survey data from the U.S. Census Bureau. Poor people, working people, blacks, Hispanics and children bore a disproportionate share of the hardship. The new figures, however, likely understate the severity of the economic downturn because a large portion of nation's job losses and unemployment rate increases occurred after the Census survey data was collected in March as part of the annual Current Population Survey. article continues at: http://www.mcclatchydc.com/251/story/75201.html

On South Carolina government. We know of their governor, Mark Sanford, because of his affair scandal. I gather the lieutenant governor, Andre Bauer, is rather an enemy of Sanford. News has reported he is the one who leaked emails alerting the media of Sanford's affair. South Carolina's senators are the idiotic Jim DeMint and not stupid but extremely republican Lindsey Graham. * Senators: Lindsey Graham (R) Jim DeMint (R) * Representatives: Henry E. Brown, Jr. (R), Joe Wilson (R), Gresham Barrett (R), Bob Inglis (R), John Spratt (D), Jim Clyburn (D)

I admire Obama so much for always being a gentleman and statesman. It's all the more striking when compared to the knuckleheads in the GOP. President Obama Accepts Wilson?s Apology, Says He Hopes the Political "Fever Breaks a Little Bit" September 10, 2009 1:04 PM After what he called an "excellent and informative Cabinet meeting," President Obama told reporters that he accepts the apology of Rep. Joe Wilson, R-SC, who shouted "You lie!" during the president?s address to a joint session of Congress last night. "Yes I do," the president said. "I?m a big believer that we all make mistakes. He apologized quickly and without equivocation. And I?m appreciative of that." Mr. Obama then turned to use Wilson as something of an example ? making this a teachable moment, perhaps ? saying that "we have to get to the point where we can have a conversation about big, important issues that matter to the American people without vitriol, without name-calling without the assumption of the worst in other people?s motives." The president suggested that while Democrats and Republicans have "different ideas?for the most part we have the same aims, which is to make sure people who work hard?and act responsibility, are able to get good jobs, good wages, raise their families, make sure those kids have a good education, that they are protected from misfortune or accident by having health care and retirement security in place." He also said keeping the American people safe. He said when it comes to party affiliation, "most Americans don think about those labels that much. They are turned off when they see people using wild accusations, false claims, name-calling, and sharply ideological approaches to solving problems. They want pragmatism." The president said he hopes "some of the fever breaks a little bit," and he admonished the media to be helpful by "not giving all the attention to the loudest and shrillest voices." The cabinet meeting was largely about health care reform, the president said, though Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates briefed the president on national security, while Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner discussed the "promise and peril of our current economic situation." -Jake Tapper and Sunlen Miller http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/09/president-obama-accepts-wilsons-apology-says-he-hopes-the-political-fever-breaks-a-little-bit.html

Gzndhyt I'd never seen congress behave like the GOP did last night at a presidential speech. I was floored by the rudeness. I don't know what to attribute it to except racism. We've certainly had contentious times before and presidents loathed by the other party. It was shocking to me. There should be some consequence for that. I don't know what though except the contempt of the country.

You can believe something to be true and yet be a liar, not merely wrong, for this reason: Things change between the time one simply believes something that isn't true (and you want to say that is not a moment of lying) and acting on that basis and affecting others on that basis. I think that's how a liar is born--in the release of that false belief into public territory, with consequences. I realize this may sound idiosyncratic, but there it is. So Wilson is a liar, to me.
