s2grand,

Our governor now since Obama plucked Sebelius up to be in his cabinet, is Mark Parkinson (D). We had a phenom during the last five years or so of republicans becoming dems to get elected. Men who were lifelong reps deciding to switch to dems to run for office against other reps. Parkinson's one of those.

Parkinson's just an interim gov, won't run in '10.

Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts (R) are Kansas' senators.

Brownback's a straight up batshit crazy religio, doesn't believe in evolution, wants creationism taught in schools, votes rep party line on all issues except immigration. He's going to run for governor in '10.

per wiki, "Roberts' voting record is conservative. Among other issues, he is pro-life, opposes same-sex marriage and supports the Patriot Act, and loosening restrictions on NSA wiretapping."

Representatives: Jerry Moran (R), Lynn Jenkins (R), Dennis Moore (D), Todd Tiahrt (R)

Ever seen how the Brits do it? It's like audience participation or one of those Holy Roller churches with everybody voicing an opinion as the speaker speaks.

Rainy

Just some anecdotal evidence, Toronto's homeless population grew as the city prospered and housing became too expensive. I never saw families or children, only single men and women--mostly paranoid schizophrenic addicts who won't take their meds and can't deal with confinement--sleeping in the streets in cardboard boxes on heating grates during icy cold winters. In the milder seasons they seek shelter in parks and other places out of view.

Winters there are so brutal--Saskatchewan Screamers intensified by Lake Ontario--they've built a whole city network of underground corridors lined with shops and restaurants.

In case you've seen the symbols on buildings or tombstones
for IOOF, Indepent Order of Odd Fellows:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOOF

When "Rawhide" TV series was being rerun on the Hallmark channel I noticed that in a lot of episodes when the drovers came into a town they would show a building with IOOF signage. I guess someone with "pull" on the show production staff may have been a member. My uncle was a member.

Here's Wikipedia entry on Woodmen of the World also. Often you'll see tombstones with their symbols:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodmen_of_the_World

I guess IOOF & WotW are something like Elks & Masons.

Then either you are stupid or just ignorant, probably both. Democrats booed Bush in his state of the union speech. Protesters interrupted his speeches also.

So, stop with the fake out rage and stop being stupid, if you can.

RainyKincaid,

I admire Obama so much for always being a gentleman and statesman. It's all the more striking when compared to the knuckleheads in the GOP.

How sweet, are you in love? He is always a genleman and just so wonderful, and lovely, and a statesman and an idiot, who is wrecking this nation, but hey, he is a gentleman.

Right there is the only reason he was elected, because of appearances.

I have to say, it's hard to think Wilson wasn't lying. I mean, the guy is a congressman, and the info has been out there for quite a while now. So he was either lying, or he is monumentally and willfully ignorant...and I do mean willfully. As a congressman, you would have to try really really hard, imo, to NOT know the truth about these bills.

What I know is that Douglas and Lincoln were already friends and rivals for many years before those debates. It would be taking it rather far to claim that Douglas was a "supporter" though. Like many Democrats of the time, Douglas put politics aside to fight against secession and supported the Lincoln administration's moves to defend against the breakup of the Nation. Douglas' died early in the new administration- he never would have served that term that he sought.

I am not going to cut Wilson any slack. This is not a case of his being mistaken. Many of the more irresponsible Republicans in Congress told their followers that the Democratic House bill had "death panels" and that it spelled out coverage to illegal aliens- both are provable falsehoods and the irresponsible Righties knowingly told it.

What you are doing is suspending disbelief in judging Wilson. In fact, I don't know if he is as deluded as he seems or whether he is just some asshole who will stick to his lies come hell or high water. Either way Wilson is unfit to hold any public office.

Wilson and his type don't think they owe President Obama any respect for various "reasons." Of course it all goes back to the President's skin tone.

Wilson doesn't think Obama is legitmate and gives him no respect.
I don't think that Wilson is legitmate and I cut him zero slack. Let him choke on his lies.

I wonder how the other developed countries are doing as far as homelessness. In Canada, Australia and the UK do they have millions of homeless people living in the streets like we do here?

We've grown accustomed to it, it's been a problem for so many decades now. When I was a little kid it was so rare. There were hobos but they were almost all adult men. Now I think women and children outnumber the men.

Good article by McClatchy on the squatter phenom in California where so many houses have been and will be vacant for months if not years and hundreds of thousands of citizens are homeless.

Well, the banks are such culprits in this recession and the State and Fed seem to be incapable of adequately rescuing people from homelessness, I don't see anything morally wrong with people squatting wherever they can, shelter here and there, even for a few months is better than none.

I know this is technically illegal but desperate times call for desperate measures.
