I think the same people afraid of Obama's encouraging school kids were convinced wearing a flag pin was an important campaign issue. *rollin my eyes*

O'Reilly, Limbaugh and pals could tell their audience that national health care is no more socialism than public education, social security or Medicaid were and that none of our peer countries who established health care for all programs decades ago are socialist countries. They're capitalist democracies with great social programs. But they won't. Because they care so much more about GOP power than what's good for our country.

I wanted to scream, "I CAN! DUH!"

> Right? There's an article on CNN's home page right > now entitiled Educators take heat over Obama > school speech. that very article was one of three on my google home page.. click I can think of no logical reason why any parent would object to the elected leader of the free world encouraging their children to study hard and stay in school...my perception is that this neo-con uproar is of a much more insidious nature than rednecks identifying and dividing into camps over sports teams.... it's closet racism, plain and simple...I say this from my own personal experience of telling friends, life-long friends, that I was going to vote for Obama last fall and the reactions that I got from some of them... ..it was shameful and embarasing me to me then...it's shameful and embarassing now

OMG, he's heartbreakingly cute...lol longhaired chihuahua, the littlest dog we've ever had. He looked a lot bigger on the computer. The vet weighed him today and he's 3 lbs but he feels like he's made of feathers.

Well, the audience has two good qualities: one, they are a minority, and two, they are predominantly old and thus shrinking in number. The problem is entertaining that noise at all. My mom, for example. She's 67 and fairly progressive for her age group. She voted for Obama in both the primary and the general. She's reasonably engaged, though not the junkie I am. She had no problem with Afghanistan but was vehemently against the war in Iraq from the time it was merely a whisper. She's not at all gullible. But she'll ask me things about health care that make me know some of this shit gets through. She doesn't buy it in the end, but I hate that the shit is so pervasive that she even considered it, know what I mean?
