Why are Americans, Republicans in general, so afraid of universal health care? They have no problem spending money on the Iraq war (or any other war for that matter). Makes no sense to the rest of the civilized world.

Great Bill, what you said about Obama being a TV star had been all over the conservative talks shows. "Listen to what liberal Bill Maher has to say about Obama being more interested in appearing on Tv than taking care of business" Nice going Bill. Like they need you to speak for them. I for one like that Obama is on TV and letting us know what he is doing. Much better than spending all his time on a ranch like W did.
My husband and I really enjoy your show on HBO and really miss you when your off. Wish HBO would put on another Liberal or as you say Independent when you are off instead of nothing.

Do you believe any song is worth 80,000?

A federal jury ruled Thursday that Jammie Thomas-Rasset willfully violated the copyrights on 24 songs, and awarded recording companies $1.92 million, or $80,000 per song.

Hi Bill:

Can you and your panelists weigh in on what's more important--healthcare for a portion of Americans or an increased deficit of a trillion more dollars? :)

Re. Meedical Care Debate

It's as plain as day, nose on your face, and any other metaphor for self evident character of so-called debatable subject. The USA, the only advanced country in the globe in which the population is menaced by death and/or bankruptcy by lack of funds to pay for illness care.

The template exists in Japan, Canada, britain, Germany, and many other countries. Why reinvnet the medical care wheel American style, when we could just adopt the Canadian system, for example, and get care at 1/2 the cost as well as a quantum leap upward in public health stats?

Calvin Klein's Three Amigos Ad (caused me to write this poem...;>;)

Calvin Klein's billboard with three amigos
tickles the fern of fed-up feminists
who want harems made old-hat
and polygamists passe
because being one of so many
seems contrary to Mother Nature's way
wherein one female has multiple males
from which to choose or use for progeny;

Calvin recognizes males need a break
between their Viagra performances;

his seer sees their "hot-to-not" hiatus
as being filled by able bro-others;

his ad provides sweet relief from being
"on" alone which most men tend to avoid
when they buddy-up for sporting events
where each out-cheers and out-drinks the other;

it captures what works and what ought to be--
a princess saying: eenie, meenie, minnie...
without a moe to marry any after
the ball is over for each prince who came;

Calvin knows his image-stoked audience;
he erases those faked female couplings
which males settled for vice football pile-ups
and combines She Who Rules with neat male tools
whose willingness to take turns derives from
years of being good sports and team players;
Calvin is shrewd in skewering voyeurs--
each one of us will buy his fair-trade jeans.

One question that I've been trying to get to you for over 200 years! Why do you never get to the heart of why everything in this country is so expensive and getting worse? Curious? LAWYERS! LAWYERS! LAWYERS! They are the cause of all the countrys problems. They promote GREED, lying, and selfishness! Get the word out, Billy boy!

What happens if Norm Coleman looses his case in the Minnesota Supreme Court and decides to appeal the US Supreme court. I mean what happens to Minnesota in terms of federal funding and soliciting for federal funds. If Coleman states that "the will of the people is not being heard" how can they decided which federal funds to accept and which to reject when there is no representation. Do they go broke in the meantime? Flash forward to 2012."Hi, I'm Tim Paulenty former governor of Minnesota and I want to be your President." Where is Minnesota? "Its that empty lot between the Dakotas and Wisconsin."

Come on, do you really think that African Americans and/or the country, for that matter, is somehow impressed with the U.S. Senate (and last year - the House) apologizing for the horrific terrors of slavery?!
The residual effects of this sick practice, which lasted for centuires, still plagues the A.A. culture today.

I say we all say a collective "Woop dee Do!"
(that's about what its worth)

Why do we need to ask congress to stop supporting and legitimizing hate groups?

Nine-year-old Brisenia Flores was sleeping soundly in her bed in Arivaca, Arizona when she was shot and killed in cold blood.

It was no random act of violence.1 Shawna Forde, the suspected mastermind of the home invasion robbery in which Brisenia and her father Raul were killed, leads the vigilante group Minutemen American Defense and has been tied to the national Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR).2 Both groups have been labeled as "hate groups" by the Southern Poverty Law Center and have a long record of dehumanizing immigrants and vilifying Latinos.

The problem is bigger than FAIR or any other group. Some members of Congress have been legitimizing these organizations for years?inviting them to testify as ?experts??while their rhetoric gives rise to violence against Latinos, like the killing of Brisenia and Raul Flores.3 That needs to end now.

Please join us in demanding that Congress renounce FAIR, the Minutemen, and all other anti-immigrant hate groups, and ask your friends and family to do the same:

http://presente.org/campaigns/flores?mid=2278-20838

FAIR and the Minutemen groups are regularly quoted in the mainstream media?FAIR more than 500 times in 2008?giving them a megaphone to broadcast their hateful rhetoric: like FAIR executive director Dan Stein?s claim that ?illegal aliens are more prone to criminal activity than the rest of the population,? or Minutemen co-founder Jim Gilchrist?s assertion that it is ?okay to say ?rapist,? ?robber? and ?murderer?? when describing ?illegal aliens.?4

As vile as their words are, even more disturbing is when our elected representatives applaud their efforts and parrot their messages. Take Ranking Republican Congressman on the House Immigration Sub-Committee, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), a long-time friend of extremist groups, who wrote that a day without immigrants in America would mean ?the lives of 12 U.S. citizens would be saved who otherwise die a violent death at the hands of murderous illegal aliens each day.? Those debunked claims were then repeated hundreds of times by FAIR and others, creating an echo chamber of racism and hate.5

Or take Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama), the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, who has likened immigrants to terrorists and child molesters, and has taken money from a group with white-supremacist ties.6

Elected leaders like these, together with their allies in extremist anti-immigrant groups, create a climate of hatred that leads to violence ? as evidenced by the recent string of hate-motivated killings across the country 7.

Enough is enough. Together, we can hold members of Congress accountable by demanding they stop legitimizing FAIR and the Minutemen. Please join us in doing so. It takes only a moment:

http://presente.org/campaigns/flores?mid=2278-20838

Thank you and Adelante

Do you think that, if we gave Cheney another undisclosed, underground, concrete bunker location, he'd take courage and leave-us-the-hell alone?

Chase received stimulus money from the government. We are 1 payment behind on our mortgage. Somehow we were also 60.00 behind also. The hell my husband went through to send them the 60.00 almost gave him a heart attack. Lot's involved. My question is the government (wants) us to keep our homes, so why are the banks trying their hardest to take them from us! Why is OBAMA trying to kill the lower and middle class!!! Sandy

Hi Bill,

So what should Obama do if Iranians continue to protest the election fraud in their country and the status quo Iranian government proceeds to mow down the protesters like the Chinese government did in Tienneman Square?
