Bill recently did that great documentary "Religulous" and tonight he's talking about torture again. What do you make of the survey that was reported on this week in the media in which churchgoers were said to be more in favor of using torture than nonchurchgoers?

I am not affiliated with any party but wouldn't one say that if the fair tax was applied that all of the problems you speak of would be taken care of? There would be no tax breaks and since the "richest" people in The United States of America buy more expensive things and buy more period, your issues should be taken care of, correct? Also, why the hell is gay marriage such a big deal? Shouldn't they suffer as much as everyone else? And please god legalize pot...please.

Hypocritic Oath Do you think it is at all inconsistent to be a proponent of universal Health Care and at the same time insist that Western Medicine is harmful?

I would urge Bill and or his staff members to go to the PBS web site checking out the Bill Moyers Journal part to watch the two interviews they have done with Constitutional scholar Bruce Fein---his first interview was back in 2007--and he appeared again last week---he very strongly states the case as to why we needed (when Bush and Cheney were in office) that they should be impeached and now post-Bush administration----that we have hearings regarding torture and the ways the Bush administration radically expanded the powers of the presidency beyond all bounds. You need to have Fein on--and also--former LA county District Attorney Vincent Buliosi who also argued strongly that Bush and other top Bush Administration officials needed to be brought to justice for what they did.

Why is it that when other countries perform the same types of crimes the United States does they get prosecuted and the United States does not? On the topic of torture, the United States has clearly violated the Geneva Convention and what happens, nothing. When another country violates this same treaty, they get prosecuted to the full extent of the LAW?? Is this like Nixon when the United States does it, it is not illegal? This is not rule of law! If we, or anyone has committed crimes, then they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Can we all please STOP saying "...the nation is divided on torture..." or "the nation is divided on whatever". President Obama won election by saying all these things that we were against under the Bush/Republicscum regime by over 70% of the vote. It was clear then and it's clear now- the MAJORITY are against these things, and therefore, is NOT divided. If Obama won by stealing Florida or by 51% (as Bush did against Gore and Kerry), then we would continue to be a divided country. We're not. We're now the MAJORITY. Thanks- you can have the soapbox back, Bill!

I'm supportive of DC having voting rights in congress... but wouldn't it be better if they spent their political capital on adding a constitutional amendment to give them one house vote until we become a state? The current push makes me sad because they have used all their chips to get a bill passed that will 100% be unconstitutional (which is why the "other side" supports it at all -- they get what they want with no risk.) What do you think of DC voting rights?

Elizabeth Edwards is out with a new book that includes reflections on her husband's affair. Do you think this is the right thing to do, and do you think Edwards' poverty agenda has been unduly swept under the rug, especially now, when the poor are feeling the greatest force from the faltering economy?

I would like to add to you remarks about Bank of America....Capital One and Citi bank. These companies could not hardly wait to approve and dole out the credit to trusting customers. But when the shit hit the fan, and the goverment had to bail them out for their poor business practices....their way of paying back the government is to send out dear john letters to these same good trusting customers and inform them that even though they have paid their bills faithfully every month , their interest rates are going up to loan shark levels, and if the consumer chooses to opt out....it can be a strike against their credit rating.....what bull shit.....and our goverment looks into it, and the only thing they are going after them about is to now make them disclose the fine print on the offers..........big whoop -- Edited by hometowngirl at 05/08/2009 7:38 PM PDT

Why was Dick Cheney the man behind the curtain for eight years and now he's the man wanting to be in front of the curtain?

Last week I noticed that there was some type of committee hearing on the BCS system in college football, as if there were nothing else going on in the world. So my question is when are the America people going to stand up and realize that the government could care less abowt us and just want money and power like everyone else?? When are the American people going to hold the government "for the people and by the people" accountable??

I don't care if these substances produce "exciting" baseball! The fact of that matter is that it creates a bad precedent to continue to turn a blind eye to players using sometimes very dangerous substances to increase their performance. Other players then feel the pressure to use them to be able to match up, and it spreads. What kind of message is that for the high school athlete trying to compete? He feels pressure from the coach to hit better, throw harder, and win games. You have the younger sibling who sees his older siblings make the family proud and the eyes are suddenly on him to follow. You take all of that pressure, and he sees the pros using substances...what does he do? The issue is not just about whether or not certain players are using, but the atmosphere it inevitably creates around the sports world.

Bill mentioned war profiteering in his monologue. In other wars, war profiteers have been prosecuted. Why is there no accountability for the profiteering that has been standard operating procedure for the Iraq war? (Halliburton, Black water, AEGIS, etc)

I half-way agree with a previous post about having Colbert or John Stewart on your panel. However, I would add....Why not have them both on the panel at the same time? It would be a historical hit, and all three of you can let your viewers know weeks in advance.

Shouldn't the torturers be prosecuted if, for no other reason, than to reaffirm to America and the rest of the world that we practice what we preach - that no one is above the law?
