Bill,

With the media plus white house plus congress/senate that equals never ending constantly confusing health care information, why can't people anchor to the important parts of the topic?

Part one (more important)
I think it is partly because the way the democrats presented this project. Obama and the white house did put out guidelines to congress/senate about health care and said get it done. Last night on C-Span Sheldon Whitehouse D-Rhode Island expressed some great arguments for a very good health care reform plan. Why are his talking points not being talked about more?
My understanding of his argument is that the plan for uninsured healthcare in place right now is set up by the states. Half of the states, and many with republican congress/senate representatives have a single payer option to provide services for the uninsured. If this is true, How can any republican or conservative argue against fixing a wasteful, already wrong system that already exists in that representatives state?

Part two (less important)
I think it is partly because the conservative defensive stall with criticism instead of productive arguments. For example, the idea to go talk to your congress representative is never wrong, however, to not chant and be obnoxious to the point of not letting any discussion or debate occur is like a crying baby trying to scream nonsense for the parents inaction. This eventually leads to the crying baby getting what what it wants because the parent understands the baby is not smart enough to know any better. It is partially the democrats fault for not being the better knowing parent and instead of locking the baby outside of the debate, be patient what for the crying to stop and see if the baby can express any actual arguments.

Sorry for the two part long essay. I do think it is an important issue.

Love the show,

NOTMADGUY

Hi Bill!
How do you feel about Paula Abdul leaving American Idol so she can concentrate on preparing to be Sarah Palin's running mate in the 2012 presidential election.

Health care illiteracy

Mr. Maher and Pannel guests,

Do you think the illiteracy of a great majority of the public concerning "Universal Health Care' resulted in the ease some individuals have had in influencing people to question the health care bill?

Some of these 'town hall meetings' have been detrimental to the education of the public on this bill. President Obama's town hall meeting in Raleigh, NC was very informative...and he came out as a person who has considered all aspects and ramifications of such a bill on the public. The audience was also fortunately composed of health care professionals and informed individuals that asked the right questions. Recent town hall meetings haven't proven to succeed in giving the public the right information.

Arianna Huff&Puff,

Why are hundreds of users on the Huffington Post being censored and banned, despite following the Terms of Service to a "T"? My most recent censorship involved the correction of a Muslim who was arguing that Islam was pro womens rights, and that they even give women inheritance. Of course the Qur'an says that daughters get half of what a son gets, so I posted the correction, and it gets censored. Do you really like burkas that much? And is their enough room in this world for you and any dissenting ideas to co-exist?

Bill,

With ALL the Media jonesing for news to report, wouldn?t you think that the media would look into what it would take to make a comprehensive and responsible health care system.

Could you interview more people like these Authors of books concerning the Health care industry.

John Abramson author of "Overdosed America"

Ray Moynihan author of "Selling Sickness"

Howard Brody author of "Hooked"

Any and all attempts at enlightening the public and the media would be VERY MUCH appreciated.

BTW, YOURS is one of the few shows if not the only show that takes a level approach to any real reporting of the current issues.

Thanks once again for what you do!

Sincerely, CFP

I think a lot of Americans needs to learn history. Because their references to history is completely off. Do you agree?

Like the recent "TEA parties", the original Boston tea party was about taxation without representation, not because a new tax.

Or America being a "Christian Nation", many of the founding fathers wanted the country to be religiously tolerant because they knew that the Pilgrims that left on the Mayflower were leaving because of religious intolerance from the Church of England, which was formed after disputes with the Pope.

Also not all Mayflower crew left because of religious reasons, many of them were going for work at the colony.

And if the "heathen" Squanto and the other Native Americans didn't help the Pilgrim's first winter, the colony wouldn't have survived.

Bill: would you, Arianna, and a bunch of your celebrity friends be willing to fan out, along with busloads of other progressive citizens, to Republican speaking events around the country -- not to shout them down, but simply to laugh out loud at their ridiculous talking points?

(nick pronunciation: koh foo koo)

Doesn't a 60% literal belief in Noah's Arc, etc. just reflect lots of seniors raised with those beliefs (and pondering their own demise)? I.e. don't you think numbers will change with a new generation of techonogy & science accepting Americans?

Why does the Huffington post ban people for different opinions? I voted for Ralph Nader last election, and made my displeasure known on the the huffington post, and was suddenly banned (and I wasn't profane or anything of the like). Is this site basically the "leftist" version of Fox news?

And I would also like a discussion of the flag@whitehouse.com. I just heard about this today, and do not know if it is legit or not. But if it is real, it basically seems like intimidation practices on the part of this administration. I am certainly not a right wing zealot, but I really dont understand this email situation they have set up.

"I don't know what the fed does." Good answer Bill. I'd hate to see you get kicked off the air. I don't know all of what they do either, but I do know that the FED loans the american people their own money, and charges us interest, then we pay them taxes out of what we earn! somthing has to change, no wonder america is broke!

here's some questions:

don't you think that the propaganda used to promote this healthcare bill is similar to that promoted before a war? where advocates for less government are called crazy, and extreme?

if al gore is so certain that global warming exists, how come he never is willing to debate any scientist who does not believe in the mainstream consensus of it, despite thousands of petitions asking him to debate the topic?

how come the people who say that this crisis wasn't caused by deregulation, but caused by too much regulation, such as the Community Reinvestment Act, aren't given as much air time as Keynesian economists? now that the stimulus and bailouts have passed and failed, shouldn't economists like Ben Stein and reporters like John Stossel be given more air time and treated as less crazy than socialist economists like Paul Krugman and Robert Reich? why is that not happening?

Hey again, why are there only two members of congress, Mr. Paul and Mr. Kucinich have the "bells" to even question Ben Bernanke. If we audit the fed, he'll just raise our interest rates! UNBELIEVEABLE our country borrows money from them AT INTEREST! Not many people know this, but their finding out! Shit! my dad's a hard core republican who is 66 years old, and did'nt know this!
