Bill had a lively debate on race relations, Spitzer's resignation, the economy and the war in Iraq. What did you think about the show?

I finally watched the other half of the show on-demand. 35 minutes into the show it went from bad to good. The woman guest got going and made some great points and New Rules is usually not a disappointment. I like Barney Frank but it's hard to understand this guy, I think his jowls interfere with his speaking. I agree with other comments on this thread, PJ O-Rourke is bugging(bugging=annoying) I don't think he's funny at all. Where is Huffington? Did you guys fall out?

Ware is a very intelligent & courageous. His comments were fascinating. I think that Bill handles those who disagree with him very graciously. When he sees that there is no agreement between him & a guest, he leaves the topic, I think, assuming that the audience will form their own opinions. A healthy way to debate. We're always so glad to have Bill back after his outside "gigs". What a brilliant guy.

Decent show, but as usual, the politician/political analyst dominated the conversation, and not for the better. Barney Frank kinda rubs me both ways, but mostly wrong. In all of his incessant blathering he occasionally says something smart (calling his proposed pot-legalization bill the "make room for real criminals bill"), even as most his rambling is just totally boring and inane ("what exactly is due respect?"). Add P.J. O'Rourke (a fucking idiot!) to the mix, and where do Melissa Harris-Lacewell (sorry, gotta insert a totally sexist comment, SHE'S TOTALLY HOT IN THE EXTREMIS!) or the actor in the middle (didn't even catch his name) go? I know this is a comedy show, but I'd rather see guests of slightly lower profile and slightly higher intelligence across the board (meaning that seeding a forum of 3 with 2 intelligent people and 1 loud-mouthed idiot is not always a good mix), even if it meant laughing quite a bit less, than the current crop. I think there are quite a few intelligent people out there on both the left and the right (but obviously NOT recent guest Joe Scarborough or P.J. O'Rourke) who can contribute to a give and take in a wide-open liberal forum like this without dragging things down. Finally, liberal America really needs to get with it. This is the kinda forum that could really move things forward past the current demagoguery on the right, and increasingly with HillBillary, on the "left" as well. I view Bill Maher as a classic court jester, even if the current "King" is both to stupid and paranoid to appreciate this humor (thank god he doesn't have 4 more years to change that!). In short, more relevant discussion, slightly less insipid laughter, both obtainable by fewer overbearing "experts."

I want the bankers who did this subprime thing to go to prison, and have all their money taken away. Barney Frank needs to add that to his legislation. They should all be prosecuted under RICO, as a matter of maintaining the integrity of our capital markets.

Boring. Bill your last couple of shows have been yawners, besides the yelling from the previous show, which was also lame. The crooked face CNN correspondent told his story like he was talking about Britney instead of Iraq and unsuccessfully tried to be funny, I'd rather watch paint dry. The sensationalist reporting (Nancy Grace etc.) is doing my head in and CNN's biased news sucks. Just because he's in Iraq doesn't mean he should be reporting on it. Can we talk about other issues besides the Presidential race? Spitzer, who gives a f**k, move on. I know it's important, but every sordid detail of either topic doesn't need to be discussed. The show is called "REAL TIME" not "Unpatriotically Correct" anymore. Environment, History, Science, Economy and what Bush has been up to (he always provides some sort of entertainment). There must be a million more interesting topics you can talk about. More charismatic guests? True funny people. Carlin, Rickels, Lovitz? Some government whistleblowers? Boring guests make a boring show. The women have been weak speakers. I almost wished they weren't there and I'm a woman.

Bill had no sensible retort to that and > couldn't quite process it on his feet so he just kind > of changed the subject. I was fervently antiwar > before we invaded and marched in the protests but I > get the idea that we broke it and need to do > something to help the situation. The facts have > changed. So to see Bill just not confront those facts > was very disappointing. Bill just seemed caught off guard with nothing to say when the correspondent didn't feed him what he was looking for. He should be better prepared for situations like that or at least have a better joke to transition away from the correspondent and back to his guests.

Can we get over the hypocrisy of liberalism! Im really sick of people complaining about how racially we are divided! Can we agree that every single group of mankind..aka..thumbs, teeth, eyes, walks upright has been persecuted...and then a group of pseudo-intellects from Princeton,Harvard,Dartmouth..AKA white people dictate what is right or wrong. Everyone is somewhat a slave to the democracy system...even Bill Maher...Wake the fuck up america! Maybe we should elect a black woman as president...we've already killed an irish president! Bill Maher and his socially absolute view of democracy is his ultimate downfall...remember even man is falibale!

> Rich people say THE stupidest things that I have ever > heard. > > One told me that I was never to worry about money > because we all come from the same place. LOL! GREAT. It's funny how they tell you not to worry about money, if you're poor, but they never relax about money themselves. You're sitting there desperate for even a job cleaning houses and they "empathize" by telling you how they couldn't afford their usual trip overseas this year....or how remodelling their house is leaving them so broke, they know what it's like to do without... NO. They don't. They know what it's like to overspend. > One said that it isn't that people are poor - > it's that they have a bad attitude toward being > poor. > > May his teeth rot out of his head for lack on money > to see a dentist. Of course these are the same people who believe that people get sick because of their bad attitudes and because they WANT to be sick. Until it's them, and then illness is something that just happens. > Then, > there was the woman who asked me why I don't just pay > stuff off... I always ask collection agents if their company is hiring. Usually that shuts them up. People who have never struggled, would rather think you struggle because you prefer to be unhappy, than that you struggle because you got pushed down into the mud--BY THEM. It's amazing how intelligent they become when they have no money of their own. -- "And, finally, New Rule: If America's richest one-percent are now so rich that even a five-star hotel isn't good enough, it's time to bring back the guillotine."

I'll have to say thumbs down... mr maher has made alot of money bashing the bush administration... And of late bashing sen.mcain.... But what he is failling to realize is that at this time we have 1 republican and 2 democratic. canidates.. 1 closet rascist,1 crook and one former hot head p.o.w. he is against mcain... but i have yet to here him say what he thinks the dems will do... I am a firm believer that america should return to isolationism and take care of ourselves first. but all he seems to want to do is make jokes at the expense of our president. and possible future... which tells me he is only in it for personal gain... yet he sits at his little desk passing jugment counting his money not offering or endorsing any real solutions to our nations problems.... just another hollywood prick trying to make his money at another persons expense... that is why we will not win whatever war we are fighting now.. i am glad my grandfather is dead... he would be ahshamed .... at the lack of leadership be it in washington or in the media... so long live the next president your god knows he or she dont give a shit about you or me... sheep we all are. pay your taxes and they wont take your home.... long live "so called freedom" as long as we pay for it" Mr Maher remember you are just a person on tv, your contribution to society last only as long as a tv is on...... -- Edited by kryotonion at 03/23/2008 2:03 AM PDT

Rich people say THE stupidest things that I have ever heard. One told me that I was never to worry about money because we all come from the same place. May he rot in a ditch at the side of the road. One said that it isn't that people are poor - it's that they have a bad attitude toward being poor. May his teeth rot out of his head for lack on money to see a dentist. Then, there was the woman who asked me why I don't just pay stuff off... May she swim in her own feces daily. Rich people run away from information that they don't like. They are not brave or worthy. Cocooning oneself in Pretendsville is not noble. Birthcontrol is still the best answer - overall

I agree that Bill Maher is WAY TOO Hollywood where the rest of us just don't care and won't care. If he wants to tell those jokes, he should tell them i a Hollywood comedy club. however, I liked it when Barney Frank told PJ that rich people DO take from poor people. To say that, in the long run, rich people don't take from poor people is saying that the status quo responds to nothing and does not change and it says that the numbers of poor people aren't growing and it overlooks the fact that rich peopel have the power to DO THINGS... power that other people don't have. The Astors look around at the horrible behavior of rich children and decided to have none and create schooling-options for poor people that, other wise, would not have existed. McCain took and/or allowed plenty of money to be taken from poor, elderly people. I'm NOT in favor of people living on 'the-dole'. I am in favor of birth control for every one who wants it and for the top one percent. The top one percent can bequeath to any single individual by merit and keep their numbers low - they way that they like it. Making huge and growing numbers of poor people by birth, lack of oportunity or shoving them there is just dumb.

I love Michael Ware. I can't believe after how close he came to being executed by insurgents he still chooses to report from and live in Baghdad. He's been there pretty much full-time since the war started, he deserves alot of credit for staying. I can't wait to read his book in 2009. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Every day takes figurin' out all over again how to fuckin' live.

I love the show even though I disagree with Bill in many areas. We need better solutions for slow job growth than Spitzer's trixxxs.
