Yes, RIP Tim Russert.

A note on Richard Perle-
According to George Tenet, (in his book) early in the morning of Sept. 12, 2001, about 8 a.m., as he was approaching the entrance of the White House after a very long night at CIA headquarters, Richard Perle was exiting the building.
As they passed each other and nodded hello, Perle turned back to say "Iraq has to pay for what happened yesterday, they bear responsibility", and walked on to his car.

Tenet says he stood there for a minute speechless, just staring at the retreating Richard Perle wondering what the hell he was talking about, as the CIA had confirmed from the passenger manifests that the hijackers were known (some) Al-Qaeda members, and there was no Iraqi connection.

Also, (most important I think) Tenet wondered just who had Perle been meeting with in the WH, at this time of the morning, on this day of all days, with revenge against Iraq on his mind???
I figure this was the moment when the neocons got their show on the road as far as Iraq is concerned.

They certainly didn't waste any time, did they??
8 a.m. 9/12/01 and Perle's meeting at the WH was over already.
On the morning after the worst attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor, with estimates at that time figuring over 6,000 dead, someone in the WH had time, or rather made time, to meet with Perle, a member of the Defense Policy Board, which is a panel that advises the SecDef (Rumsfeld) on defense policy matters, before seeing the Director of Central Intelligence, who at that time was still the Director of the entire intel community, all 16 agencies!!
The intel community and the military are the eyes, ears and shield of the country. There could be more attacks on the way, as well as overseas attacks, and the somebody in the WH decides to meet with Perle first???

WOW. If I was a conspiracy-minded type, I would be thinking maybe the early morning meeting on 9/12 was maybe scheduled sometime before9/11. No??

And as for who this minor person,( but major neocon) not even a gov employee, was meeting with?? Tenet says he never found out.

Well, only one guy lives in the WH, and maybe his VP would be there early on a day like 9/12, no??

And it's pretty hard to swallow the fact that the DCI couldn't arrange a peek at the sign-in book at the SecService desk inside the entranceway, no?? I guess his saying he "never found out who Perle met with" was just him being polite.

NYTimes on the current Midwest floods, today:

For Mr. Timmerman and the thousands of other farmers who have seen their fields turn to floodplains, the rain and flooding could not have struck at a worse time, and their plight extends far beyond the Midwest.

Last week, the price of corn rose above $7 a bushel on the commodities market for the first time, and soybeans rose sharply, too, reacting to the harsh weather hampering crop production across the Midwest. In addition to Iowa, the farming states of Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Minnesota have suffered an unusual level of flooding this year.

Soaring global demand in addition to the increased use of corn for ethanol, an alternative fuel, have shrunk the worldwide supply of staples that are the core of practically every continent?s diet.

Meanwhile, the price of oil has jumped, raising the cost of producing crops and feeding livestock and causing an increase in grocery bills here and abroad, sparking riots and protests in at least two dozen countries.

At a moment when corn should be almost waist-high here in Iowa, the country?s top-producing corn state, more than a million acres have been washed out and destroyed.

Beyond that, agriculture experts estimate that 2 million acres of soy beans have been lost to water, putting the state?s total grain loss at 20 percent so far, with the threat of more rain to come.

?The American farmer, we feed the world,? Mr. Timmerman said. ?We?re going to be short on corn and we?re going to be short on soybeans.?

He continued, ?It?s heart-wrenching.?

CBunny

Jon is certainly cute, and very fucking aware too. There's always room for improvement, but Jon has a real good grip on what's happening.

Duplicate of Bill Maher? No way. Not even close, except for 2 jews. :)

Jetfuel,

Stewart is not that funny, he is just cute. And blast his show, is a duplicate of Maher's Politically Correct and a basic newshow.

Colbert is funny because he is a liberal defending the conservatives, but I notice he is showing more and more 'green' earth saving products and their creators. I like that about him. His lastest book is funny.

But,

Stewart and Colbert is not a good as Bill Maher. Lately Bill and his henpeckers are getting lazy. Bill, your purpose on this earth is not the "Hot tubs without borders" ambassador, so let's step it up a notch. Please be more like your father. Rather, Maher and Wallace did not just sit at a desk reading a teleprompter. They researched and wrote their scripts, and what they said was based on the truth.

With the sudden and sad death of Tim Russert, I suspect that the media will do a bit a repositioning and several people will be switching jobs. I hope that Bill Maher is one of them.

Bill belongs on broadcast media on a daily basis. Why, because broadcast media has a larger audience, and more people need to hear the truth with Bill's twisted humor thrown into it. It makes the truth easier to bear with.

Bill unless HBO is willing to pay you wads of money to remain in a Hollywood stupor, please consider leaving and doing a daily show, again. Forgive the broadcasters about 9/11. They do not knowest what they have done, when they threw you up on the cross.

Right GZN.

I never watched Russert that much. His humble roots are good. I did not dislike the guy, but from what I did hear, did not particularly admire his questions or comments.

A nice guy, but plain vanilla. From what I observed.

I separate the man from the job. Russert grew up in the same neighborhood where I grew up. He was a decent guy from a humble, working class family. His father worked for the city sanitation dep't. We all grew up with the same values, and like a close friend of mine who also went on to have a successful career in journalism, neither of them forgot where they came from. With every visit he made himself accessible to the community, like doing things with his father, and talking with kids in public and private schools.

I didn't watch his show for the same reasons I don't watch MSM network or cable news shows, I don't think moderators have much, if any, journalistic control.

I think stoopid questions are the hallmark of our moronic media.

Colbert does not ask stoopid questions, and in the process reveals some truths. Stewart too.

Well at least he had the balls to bring it up
whether he did or didn't follow up on it.
(I missed seeing it myself) I'm not so sure
anyone else would have asked it.

not replacable by anybody in sight.

In a rare moment in U.S. journalism, Tim Russert put this question directly to Richard Perle: "Can you assure American viewers ... that we?re in this situation against Saddam Hussein and his removal for American security interests? And what would be the link in terms of Israel?"
