Abstinence Education

Hello All,

During this last season Bill Maher briefly covered the validity of Abstinence Education. The panel was Left-sided, so Bill brought on one of his Real Time Reporters to argue the case for Abstinence (younger black female, I've forgotten her name).

A key point to her arguement was (paraphrasing), that "teaching kids about contraception meant teachers would be teaching Morals (a task for parents)".

No one called her on that statement, and the discussion trailed down familiar paths until time demanded they move on.

I feel that her position (her perception) is shared by far too many people and is 90% of the problem, and it should be revisited.

Teaching contraception is science. Biology, anatomy, reproduction, etc. Teaching what prevents reproduction is entirely part of teaching what causes reproduction.

Teaching Abstinence is about influencing decision-making. Reinforcing desired behavior, and discouraging undesirable behavior. That's teaching MORALITY folks.

So, do we want our schools to teach Fact (Science) or Morality (behavior endorsed and prescribed by a slice of the population and in no way based on facts or results)?

Thank you for your consideration.

Men can easily buy it from else where.

Women should stay loyal to their men only.

You know the old saying between studs and sluts.

It's all about the boys and their Packed Package...
Sperm can live for 10 days.
You could have sex on a Monday,
And the lady gets pregnant on the following Wednesday.
Wow, that's some package, boys.

No I cannot imagine that. How horrible would that be? You might never even realize that sex could be great.

I think it happened that way for a lot of women in the past. It became a chore that they dreaded because they didn't know any better. You didn't do it before marriage, and you most certainly didn't talk about it, ever, ever, ever.

I can't imagine that many men would want to return to that standard either.

I completely agree, can you imagine being with someone who does nothing for you forever?

This is true for a lot of people. My favorite republican is pretty much a closet liberal. Although I think he'd disagree with that characterization.

Sorry. I didn't mean to go there.

No man, again, sorry about that.

Gross, man.. I was thinking additional likelihood of blowjobs & anal, and suddenly you are talking about my daughter

*cringes*

Funny, though..

I could argue that I am more conservative than liberal, but the stereotypes which once existed have become so gray I think it might be difficult for any of us to put our fingers on what characteristics distinguish each party..

When it comes to my daughter.. if you feel like it, read my longer post a page or 2 back. I hope she lives with a guy before marrying or getting engaged, has protective sex, and knows to the highest degree possible what to expect from sex & relationships prior to engaging in them.

Pretty soon we're going to see Mykel start to going to church and do what the nice Republican folks do. j/k

Yes, if I've a daughter, I'd want her to be a nice conservative princess, just like Ann Coulter.

These are not rational readings of my posts nor an educated attempt at understanding and interpreting them.

Adding to what I've said to you before in this thread, they represent the frothings of an abusive mentality bent on baiting another poster into an argument.

Next time you post a response like this to me, I am reporting the post and PMing the Admin with a complaint.

In other words, stop responding to my posts unless you can be intelligently conversational and civil in your attitude toward and about me.

Otherwise, and for the last time, interaction between us is over.

Cleo

Claptrap,

>It's all well to read what someone says, if that's what you actually did, and I doubt it, but to purposefully misunderstand and misrepresent it to advance your own agenda or cover your own obvious missteps, is downright reprehensible.

I would tend to agree. Especially, when it's as easy as pasting what you originally wrote:

>>Dunno about you, but whenever I hear the right leaning pissing and moaning about sexual morality and all its manifestations and ramifications, the thought invariably occurs that what we're really hearing is "code" expressing their concern over the declining birth rate of white babies and the rising population of Black ones.

The point of your post was to deride conservatives for their inherent racism. I don't think it's unreasonable to call you on your obvious baiting. I think it's reprehensible. I think that you've violated your own standard which you prattle on about later in your post:

>this is a community of presumed adults who are reasonably able to expect a level of education that permits a rational reading of what's being said by and among us.

I found your comment neither educated or rational. I found it consumed with self guilt and racism.
