America needs a legitimate 3rd Party

I can't believe I am the only one out there who is thoroughly disappointed in the choice we have come November. To me, neither candidate is worthy of our highest office. The fact is that BOTH parties have become so corrupt and entrenched that they don't need to present viable candidates, because the system does not allow voters a true third (or fourth) option. Republicans and Democrats have devolved into nothing more than hyper-partisans who shout back and forth "my side good!, your side bad!", who will tolerate any shortcomings of their candidates as long as they can get elected, and, probably more importantly to them, keep the other "evil side" from winning. How about a Party more interested in what's good for America than in gaining and retaining power?
Pie in the sky?
Maybe, maybe not.

Jake,

No you're not. I've said here in other forums that I wish we had political systems like England and France with with up to five candidates that are absolutely viable in the general elections.

I actually think now that there are enough people discontented with the American system of government that a well-conceived third party, maybe one perceived as more centrist than the Libertarians and the Green Party could have a real chance.

But it would take a concerted bipartisan effort to move past a lot of the petty bickering we see here to reach a true consensus for a set of workable tenets for the party.

T. Boone's days are numbered on THIS PLANET, and nobody knows that better than he.

I am sympathetic to his ads, which is to say that I think he is right as rain. I don't care if he or his estate makes a gazillion dollars from it, for in the long run it seems a sane option to explore.

I think Cynthia Tucker just wrote in the Atlanta Journal that if--hold on to your seats--Jimmy Carter's call to wean ourselves from oil dependency back in 1978 or whatever year it was had been followed, there is no telling how different thiings might be today.

I don't think anyone was taking him seriously, anyway, no need to get worked up. He couldn't be much worse than the Wal Mart greeter or Alfred E. Nuemann, btw.

Whether it's T-Bone or T-Boone, I see through the shill that is his commercial. "I'm and oil man and oil is on the way out for this and that reason. I have a plan to keep america going with a new form of energy."

Something tells me that it's not going to be free and if it's Mr. Bones/Boones idea, he's going to want a poopload of money for it. The rich oil man who knows his $$$$ days are numbered in the oil industry wants us to buy his next cash cow and make him even more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

I hear you jet, but I feel there are restrictions in place; in the ways to appear on the ballot in some states, for instance, or the way the debates are conducted. I applaud you voting your conscience, not enough people do. Too many follow the party line like lemmings.

Hey Jake--the US does have a third party. Several, actually.

I've voted for the Libertarian Party candidates several times since about 1988. Wasted vote? Sure, but at least my conscience is clear that I didn't vote for a criminal.

I agree with your sentiment.
