"Fascism is and always has been a phenomenon of the left.....Fascism and communism are closely related. Historical competitors for the same constituents, seeking to dominate and control the same social base....The fact that they appear as polar opposites is a trick of intellectual history and the result of a concentrated propaganda effort on the part of the [reds] to make the [browns] appear objectively evil and [other] (demonizing the other is a fascistic trait.).....In terms of their theories and practices there were minimal differences.....Fascism like communism was an international movement that attracted adherents in every western society. Particulary in the aftermath of world war 1, but beginning much earlier......A fascist moment arose on the ashes of the old european order. It drew together the strands of european politics and culture- the rise of ethnic nationalism, the bismarkian welfare state, and the collapse of Christainity as a source of social and political orthodoxy.....It offered a new religion of the devinized state and the nation as an organic community......American progressiveism- the moralistic social crusade from which modern liberalism proudly claims descent- is in some respects the major source of the fascist ideas applied in Europe by Mussolini and Hitler.......American fascism is very different from its European variants because it was moderated by many factors-geographic size, ethnic diversity, Jeffersonian individualism, a strong liberal tradition, etc.....As a result American fascism is milder, more friendly [maternal]." > How about yours first? Where did you find that > article? It's lifted from Robert O. Paxton's "The Anatomy of Fascism" With the balance stolen from Jonah Goldberg's "Liberal Fascism." Goldberg's arguments are so skewed, in the political writer's domain, they've named a new principle after him... "The Goldberg principle": You can prove any thesis to be true if you make up your own definitions of words. -- Daniel HBO Forums Abuser -- Edited by daniel9696 at 09/03/2009 2:13 PM PDT
