This thread will probably die quickly, but I thought I'd try and have fun with it anyway. In honor of Halloween, I thought we could share what scares us. OK, I'll go first. Clowns, people speaking at length in unison, those Precious Moments figurines, electronic voice phenomena (real or faked, the voices sound metallic) and the great old film The Cabinet of Dr Caligari.

That is totally true except they will usually only come out after sundown. Central Park at dusk is the worst. I started my run at the south entrance once and after hitting the top of the loop I noticed a huge game of pick-up soccer WITH RATS I flipped out(Wilma Flintstone again) and a man unknown to me had to carry me in his arms all the way back to the entrance. The Park is really safe at night save for the rats. They are in all 'hoods and the subway but you really won't see them in the winter or during the day.

My phobia comes from childhood experience living in a rat infested farm house. I vividly remember one getting on my bed while I was sleeping and Mom staying up all night guarding my baby brother and I. Poor Mom.

Those pesticides are the reason I don't want anyone coming in here spraying that stuff around! It is a long boring story with many parts I have to tell you some day but I did live the urban legend and found a huge rat in my toilet! My former room mate has told the story so many times that he has substituted himself instead of me into the situation... so gross. I opened my door this time last year and a mouse ran right in .... there I was ...Wilma Flintstone, standing on a chair screaming for my husband.

I've never been to NYC but I have this idea in my mind that people see rats scurrying around the streets and sidewalks on a daily basis. I don't think I could ever get used to that. I've never seen a rat just out in the street or in our lawn or running down the driveway. If I did, I'd race to the phone to call an exterminator to do preventative measures!

priamsdaughter lol It was just a google image of the midtown store, hon, nothing scary. I have a phobia about mice and rats, too. We live in a 90 year old house so I'm always worried they'll invade. So far we've never even had one which amazes me. I am soooooo thankful. I suspect the old couple we bought the place from doctored our foundation with some scary pesticides that are illegal now and that deters them.

I'm an NYU grad. I went to kindergarten and my 2 older brothers attended middle school from a campsite. I've seen bear in Chicostoumi, Quebec ... I've been face to face with a moose in Yosemite ... stranded in Death valley in a country squire station wagon with the 6 others in my family ... was blamed for leaving our tent unzipped when we came home to a locked-and-loaded copperhead snake in our sleeping quarters.... and on my third trip up the Grand Canyon, we all made record time as the park rangers called for an evacuation because the pouring rain was causing a flash flood. I hitchhiked from New Jersey to Michigan. The college educated are not your enemy. Those who try to convince you of anything so baffling are the more likely culprits. I actually still believe those with college educations are good for the country.

Futurama Bratty kid: The flames painted on the side will make it go faster. Leela: What's the science behind that? Brat: I'm 12.
