Watching the 4/24 Real Time show, Bill really bashed Susan Boyle's appearance. "Troll"? A bit much. I agree with him that those "who's got talent" shows have their mean side, & that's why I don't watch them, either. However, I think he went overboard with the slams on Boyle's looks. Bill's not exactly Brad Pitt, himself. Don't get me wrong. Bill Maher is an icon in our house, for his honesty, intelligence & humor. My husband & I agree with most of his opinions & appreciate that he has the courage to express them.

It depends on what the meaning of the word "is..." is. -- When in doubt, hit him in the head. --Coach Lawyer

If she wasn't ugly, there'd be no > story. > > -- That is true, sadly. Idol has done this before, valorizing some working-class guy who turned out what seemed to be an impressive imitation of "operatic singing," except that by opera standards he actually was mediocre. It was the story of it that mattered. Some of us here want to use the story to talk about looks in society, is all. Als: my fave Twilight Zone was the classic "The Eye of the Beholder," the other cosmetic surgery tale. It scared me to death when I was young and it still holds up, dramatically. -- Edited by editor2 at 04/28/2009 6:44 AM PDT

I started a thread on this very subject. I adore you Bill, but let's face it,you are pretty short and have a large schnozz. See, we all have something different about us, it makes us interesting. Maybe you should watch that old Twilight Zone episode, "Number 12 looks just like you."Suzy Parker, of all people, (No Janice Dickinson, you were not the first supermodel) played a "homely" girl in the future everyone wanted to change into a cookie-cutter blonde, because that's what everyone else looked like(the men were redone to look rugged and chiseled) The populace got surgeries at age 13 to do this.Well, this little girl refused to play ball...
