Drug Law Reform Progress

I haven't started a thread in ages. There is a lot of progress being made a little under the radar on this issue. I will give updates if anyone is interested. (Everyone really should be.)

This one is significant because Charlie Rangle has been a staunch drug warrior and now he sees the light.

The interesting part is the audio clip.

Some hope again for California $1.4B in income if passed. Oakland/SF have certainly been a seat for initiatives.

Effi

I thought of you this morning, reading Reason Magazine's article "Medical Marijuana Muddle" by Jacob Sullum. He's studied the drug issue for years.

He points out that even though the Obama Justice Dept in October said that it was going to not prosecute those people who complied with various state laws regarding MM. A great statement.

However, it seems that reality and practice do not comply with the happy face press release. The DEA has busted about the same number of dispensaries this year as they did last.

Kinda like the antiwar sentiment expressed in the last few elections?

Kinda like the heathcare reform sentiment during these last several months? And that was with the President supposedly behind the sentiment.

Hoping for the best Effi, I'm hoping for the best. :)

Of course I do. It was irritating, but not significant. The snowball is rolling downhill.

Nice .... out of 26 states 8 have passed hemp legislation, add Oregon to the list.

Scwarzenegger vetoed in 2008. Our San Joaquin valley is prime for ag ... and the state needs income.

It will happen ...

Nothing so powerful as an idea whose time has come.

Cool ... I don't use my Facebook account. I've been familiar with hemp/mj legalization for 11 years.

I did find Herer and Roddick on Y/T.

It's amazing how many years these people have been working for change. It's good to see their hard work recognized.

53% ... approval, good number

I'll count myself fortunate for being in three gen family who has worked for change ... civil rights, women's rights and in my gen gay rights.

Medical marijuana distribution is not unusual in SoCal. If it's prescribed you can not only purchase but grow it.

Largest cash crop in CA ...

Sorry we do not have hemp farming as a viable alternative. It remains a superior product.

Many enlightened hippies and others of that gen, attempting change ... Anita Roddick, Body Shop, hemp products, High Times, mag, est 1974, and Jack Herer, The Emperor Wears No Clothes.

Enhanced Interrogation Techniques
Dick Cheney has recently threatened to not cooperate with a Justice Department probe. Since we are in a time of war and they are trying to find out information of national security, would enhanced interrogation techniques be appropriate?
