FEMA seeks immunity from trailer lawsuits Victims accuse agency of negligence, say they were exposed to toxic fumes Associated Press Tues., July. 22, 2008 "NEW ORLEANS - The Federal Emergency Management Agency is requesting immunity from lawsuits filed on behalf of Gulf Coast hurricane victims who claim they were exposed to dangerous fumes while living in government-issued trailers. On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Kurt Engelhardt is scheduled to hear FEMA?s bid to be dismissed from a series of consolidated cases filed against the federal government and the companies that supplied FEMA with tens of thousands of trailers after Katrina and then Rita in 2005. Lawyers for Gulf Coast storm victims accuse FEMA of negligence for sheltering them in trailers with elevated levels of formaldehyde, a preservative used in construction materials that can induce breathing problems and is believed to cause cancer." > Next time I'm not going outside to check myself, just > gonna call the police. It was dumb and impulsive. That's one. Sometimes you don't get a number two. I've been called blunt when I'm handling this kind of call, but that dispatcher should have NEVER let you even open that door! Omg did they drop the ball. Stay inside and on the line. Don't open that door until the dispatcher advises you it's her patrol units on the other side of it. I had a scare myself last night, but it was a different kind of prowler, lol. I have a very old, senile, blind dog that mostly stays inside except for potty time. I let him out...he hopped down off the front porch, and I immediately hear a rattlesnake sound off right at our feet. Honey, I didn't know this old bag could grab up 50 pounds of dog and jump that far that fast! LOL! I literally jumped from the brick walkway up onto the porch with Bailey in my arms. Dayum was that a wake up. -- Watching a train wreck full of clowns

Next time I'm not going outside to check myself, just gonna call the police. It was dumb and impulsive. When the man talked back to me, I think that's what scared me so bad. Cold sweat, heart racing scared then. We don't have a light on the patio at night, need to change that. So I was peering out into the darkness after hearing noises out there. I yelled...Somebody out there?...unfamiliar man's voice says....yeah, how ya doin?...I said...who is it?....man said, how's it goin? but I couldn't see him because it was so dark! Yikes! ran back in the house, locked the door, called 911. -- Edited by RainyKincaid at 07/23/2008 6:43 PM PDT

Mags, Yeah, the 911 girl was very nice. I've been having maybe heart troubles lately doc still checking. I was so scared! heart racing, sweating, huffing and puffing just talkin on the phone. She stayed with my while I ran upstairs to wake my husband up. He goes to bed early to go to work at 3:30 am. While i was watching the street for the police to show up, my neighbor man who shares a driveway with us drove in. The bad guy was still on the patio. My neighbor man never walked to the house so i was So scared the bad man did something to him! Sheesh. The police told me later they questioned my neighbor who was clueless about the prowler and just sat in is truck for a while listening to his favorite CD finish playing.

I hope so. Valsmom, Nice to see you, hon. Yeah, bad guy gone. We just came inside just now from locking the shed and garage and cars up for the night. We usually don't have crime troubles even though we're in the oldest part of town. If a bad guy shows up inside my house all I've got is a steak knife, and two small dogs...lol

Geez Rainy, I'm glad you're ok. We call that signal27 (prowler). Did the dispatcher stay on the phone with you until units arrived? (Never, ever hang up) -- Watching a train wreck full of clowns

I left the thread title simply "FEMA" on purpose, as I have no doubt they'll be dropping the ball again down the line. -- Watching a train wreck full of clowns
