Yes, I agree, DaNihilist. I think to expect them to have a full understanding is unreasonable, but I do believe that they should have a working idea of principles. Were that the case, we might not be having the stem-cell debate, stem-cells are available from cord blood and the placenta, it doesn't have to mean supporting abortion. Also with the needs to develop alternative fuels and energy and production technologies, they need to have a fundamental understanding so that they can make informed decisions and legislation.

Agreed in principle; BUT, not sure how much detail we want candidates for Chief Executive Officer of the USA to reliably discuss, nor am I equally sure how much we can reliably depend, on the citizens of the USA to evaluate, the answers to such questions.
