Make Your Own Kind Of Music

If these boards can support fifty to sixty new threads a month from one individual poster, they surely can tolerate another music thread reflecting the individual musical tastes and a deeper level of conversation about the experiencing of that form of entertainment from the members here.

This one isn't about what's on your radio or CD at this very moment, nor a game seeking repetition of words in a song title.

It's asking for you to post examples of your particular tastes in music and musical artists through the times of your life, your knowledge of them, why you like the music you've chosen, as well as posted examples of that music for other board members to experience and enjoy.

Surely, as one of the arts, music - with all its infinite varieties, genres, artists and themes from the beginning of time - resists the effort to pound square pegs into round holes like no other.

Hereby, let it be resolved that "music" as an entity in and of itself, should have a thread of its own.

Make Your Own Kind of Music - Mama Cass Elliot

Enjoy!

Cleo:)

I'm not a baseball fan or a Yankees fan but one does have to admire such sustained excellence..

..tried to find this Ol' Blue Eye tune on youtube but only found a bunch of kids karoaking it...

they used to play this on TV during all of the SB's back in the 70's and 80's ..

..anyways, I found the lyrics...

Winners sung By : Frank Sinatra
lyrics by : Mr. Raposo

Here's to the winners, lift up the glasses Here's to the glory still to be

Here's to the battle, whatever it's for To ask the best of ourselves then give much more

Here's to the heroes, those who move mountains

Here's to the mountains they make us see

Here's to all brothers, here's to all people

Here's to the winners all of us can be.

Indeed it did. Good call Cleo.
The Phils were clearly the best of the NL, again, and they brought their A game to the WS. They were simply outdone by the better team. Congrats to the Yanks and their fans.
Now, I can go on about my disdain for the DH and the AL in general, but I'll digress...:)

Matsui did Japan proud.

YES!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 40x ALCS and now 27x MLB WORLD CHAMPION NEW YORK YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And thanks to Justice, my friend for years, Ronnie and other supporters of the Best Team in Baseball for 2009!!! Your many kind words and wishes of luck paid off big time!!

ADO, they did it in six, so my prediction came true.

And, Solong, I had to laugh at your line "they'll need a caption" for Ozzie Guillen every time he spoke before and after the games. Too Funny!!

Now - on the one year anniversary to the day that Barack Obama became President of these United States and progressiveness was returned to American politics for the first time in 40 years, I saw my blessed boys in Yankee pinstripes realize a dream gone unfulfilled for nine long years.

Congratulations to the "Core 4" of Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte for spurring this win of their 5th World Series rings in Yankee pinstripes.

To World Series MVP, Hideki Matsui, for driving in the 6 runs that capped this win of the World Championship.

To pitching ace, Andy Pettitte, who won the clinching games against the Minnesota Twins, the LA Angels and now the Philadelphia Phillies and earned an 18th post-season win for his resume - the most ever by a pitcher in Major League Baseball.

To A-Rod on winning his first World Series ring by breaking a post-season slump and helping to earn this World Championship in a Yankees' uniform.

To CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett and the bullpen that made the difference in beating the Phillies - as the Phillies' Manager, Charlie Manuel, allowed in his gracious concession of defeat.

To all the Yankees, their ownership and management and Skipper, Joe Girardi, who has now earned the "27" emblazoned on his team jersey.

Joe worked quietly, without drama or show and with infinite professionalism - the Yankees' much lauded inimitable style - to make this victory a reality for millions of Yankees' fans here at home and all over the globe as well.

So, a little music is in order to speed this celebration:

We Are the Champions - Queen - A song also dedicated to Barack on this same night last year

And, of course:

New York, New York - Frank Sinatra

And, from me to all the men in Yankee pinstripes, because it was true this year, above all:

You Will Be My Music - Vikki Carr

And to the 2007-2009 NLCS Champion and 2008 World Champion Philadelphia Phillies, the other best team in MLB this year, congratulations for a well played World Series and it's on to 2010 for all of us now!

Here's to the Losers - James Darren

Was there reason to? I must have missed it.
Unlike others, I am big enough to admit when I do.

Enhanced Interrogation Techniques
Dick Cheney has recently threatened to not cooperate with a Justice Department probe. Since we are in a time of war and they are trying to find out information of national security, would enhanced interrogation techniques be appropriate?
