Happy July 4th Troops, you're taking your pride and making sacrifices to serve this country. Unfortunately, your top general and the next President, Barack Obama, think the hard work and experiences you earned through military don't mean much to prepare you for anything else but what you're doing. Please consider this when you hear their honorary speeches about you. infoseek (R) McCain 08 -- Edited by infoseek at 07/03/2008 10:19 AM PDT

That cap should have been lifted when their bloated asses were paying the bill, not when its time for them to collect the money. Ain't that just like the boomers? They get all the reward and none of the sacrifice.

On the one hand, the only fair thing would be to lift the cap. On the other, the system is fucked because boomers didn't anticipate this. They are the one that voted in morons that wouldn't lift the cap. Now, when the money comes up short for them, we're going to rescue them by doin what they should have done. So a compromise is in order. We lift the cap but boomers can't have one red nickel of any increased revenue.

ronnie, If you work for an employer, 6.2% of your wages is withheld and your employer deposits the withholding, along with its 6.2% matching contribution, with the government for the social security programs. In 2008, the employee tax and matching contribution stop after the first $102,000 of wages. In addition if you work for an employer, 1.45% of your wages is withheld and the employer makes a matching 1.45% contribution to the Medicare program, making the total withholdings at 7.65% (6.2% OASDI and 1.45% Medicare). However, all wages are subject to the Medicare tax; there is no ceiling. If you are self-employed, you pay 15.3% of your taxable income into the social security and Medicare programs, up to the first $102,000 of income. You continue to pay 2.9% of your taxable income into the Medicare program for your earnings above $102,000. Although the impact on you is greater because you pay twice the rate of employees, you can deduct half of your federal self-employment taxes from your income when it comes time to pay your federal income tax. So, if a person makes 100K, $6750 is taken out for social security tax. Under the new rules an example of a person making 200K would have taxes withheld in the amount of $13,500. As the system is now even CEO's who make millions in salary only pay $6750 total social security taxes.

ronnie, You misunderstand, hon. Obama has not proposed taxing people who receive Social Security income. No. He does want to lift the cap on the amount of salary in which social security taxes are withheld. Currently, they're only taken out of salary less than 102K. He wants to change that so that all income, even for wealthy people, is subject to Social Security tax being withheld. Fact Check.org did the calculations and reported, "Taxing all earnings would indeed amount to a $1.3 trillion increase over the next 10 years alone, according to estimates by Cato Institute Social Security expert Michael Tanner, who says he drew his figures from projections by the Social Security Administration staff. A similar estimate comes from Citizens for Tax Justice, which figures the measure would bring in $124 billion per year." This is to prevent a shortfall in the social security system so that the huge wave of baby boomers currently retiring will be able to count on checks during their retirement. -- Edited by RainyKincaid at 07/06/2008 10:10 PM PDT

Info, The generals have a responsibility not to follow orders that are dishonorable or harmful to the US or 'crazy' in some way. That's why many have resigned or retired during the Iraq war.

OK, I better stay away from all military people for awhile.

Infoseek, Several generals have quit/retired during the Bush admin in revolt against Bush/Cheney's deceits and mismanagement of the war. They can't speak out while they're under his command, but they do after they leave and they've been very critical. from the Times, UK: US generals ?will quit? if Bush orders Iran attack May 28, 2008 According to the Times Online: Some of America?s most senior military commanders are prepared to resign if the White House orders a military strike against Iran, according to highly placed defence and intelligence sources. Tension in the Gulf region has raised fears that an attack on Iran is becoming increasingly likely before President George Bush leaves office. The Sunday Times has learnt that up to five generals and admirals are willing to resign rather than approve what they consider would be a reckless attack. ?There are four or five generals and admirals we know of who would resign if Bush ordered an attack on Iran,? a source with close ties to British intelligence said. ?There is simply no stomach for it in the Pentagon, and a lot of people question whether such an attack would be effective or even possible.? A British defence source confirmed that there were deep misgivings inside the Pentagon about a military strike. ?All the generals are perfectly clear that they don?t have the military capacity to take Iran on in any meaningful fashion. Nobody wants to do it and it would be a matter of conscience for them. ?There are enough people who feel this would be an error of judgment too far for there to be resignations.? A generals? revolt on such a scale would be unprecedented. ?American generals usually stay and fight until they get fired,? said a Pentagon source. Robert Gates, the defence secretary, has repeatedly warned against striking Iran and is believed to represent the view of his senior commanders. Michael Smith and Sarah Baxter, Washington ************* In addition the head of the IAEA, the nuclear inspection agency , has said he would resign if Bush attacked Iran. I believe if our country's generals had known of Bush was lying about all of the reasons we went to war in Iraq, as we all do now, they would have revolted then too.

> No. Why? > Yes, in that military service doesn't indicate > they'll be good presidents. Lets see, maybe we should count the years John McCain was captured against him. Hey, people, the dumb fuck didn't do shit for couple of years because he was captured by the enemies while serving this country. > No but I don't think they're all qualified to be > president. LOL LOL LOL Rainy, let me help you: Military doesn't make a better person. Military is just something honorable soldiers were part of. (I'd start my argument from there). > I suggest we judge McCain for his political record. > That would be revolutionary. No shit. Everything about him will be under scrutiny including the fact he has an ex-wife. EX-WIFE!!! That's a sin to the liberals!!!! LOL LOL LOL -- Edited by infoseek at 07/06/2008 7:22 AM PDT
