Mark,

A cold boot is when you power off the puter for at least 2 minutes but 5 is better just to make sure. It allows the memory to be reset. Perform a shutdown first not a restart.

Also whether you have DSL or cable modem (like RoadRunner) unplug it while the puter is off every now & then so you pick up a new IP address. Leave it off same 5 minute deal.

Also do you use a router?

Rainy,

Check to see how much disk drive free space you have. IF, & I MEAN IF you have at least 10% free space you can do a defrag of your disk drive. A defrag can take hours so it's best to do it overnight when you won't use puter for 8 hours. A defrag often solves a lot of problems. It won't give you any more free space but reorganizes your files. More info if you need it. Delete any unnecessary files prior to defragging, empty Recycle bin.

Rainy,

You better hope it's not DSL. DSL is still dial-up & dial-up is limited speed-wise. Uverse is supposed to be high speed Internet. I browsed their video. I worked for VoIP provider for a while, I don't recommend it except as a cheap alternative if you have other phone options like a cellphone. VoIP can help if cell minutes are expensive.
Fiber optic is very fast & very reliable unless it gets cut.

That sounds like a broadband connection. To test your speed go to this site and choose the city closet:^O (closest)to you.

Here's mine:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 19895 kbps (2486.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 2628 kbps (328.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

Ru, just switched to uverse via ATT, not sure what my net connection is called now, they said it's fiber optic underground, do I still call it DSL?

If you had a PC, the url shows up in the status bar when you hover over the link. It prolly does on the MAC as well, but you're oblivious.

Enhanced Interrogation Techniques
Dick Cheney has recently threatened to not cooperate with a Justice Department probe. Since we are in a time of war and they are trying to find out information of national security, would enhanced interrogation techniques be appropriate?
