This thread may die a quick death here on the R/T threads but I thought I'd give it a shot anyhow. Got a favorite NFL team? Mine's the San Diego Chargers. I predict here and now that 'Da Bolts' will win Super Bowl XLIV, Feb 07, 2010 in Miami. I must confess, I've been predicting the same thing for about 30 years straight, (OK except for when Ryan Leaf was QB) and I've never been right. I've gotten used to the taste of crow but, hope springs eternal. I like SD's chances due to the return of LB Shawne Merriman, the signing of 1st round pick LB Larry English and 4th round pick DT tackle Vaughn Martin. Plus former all-pro CB Antonio Cromartie should return to his 2007 pro-bowl form playing without the broken hip that plagued him last year. The regular season starts in just 30 days on Sept 10!!! -- Edited by MateoDeSD at 08/10/2009 3:21 PM PDT

"Well ye got the Tommy Tuck rule gift...which started the Pats run and allowed Brady to begin banging bunches of beautiful billionaire Brazilian supermodels...Gruden wins with the Raiders that year maybe he stays and Al Davis doesn't lose his mojo...." The Tuck Rule is an actual rule which was used against the Patriots earlier that season in a game against the stupid fucking Jets. The roughing-the-passer call against Sugar Bear Hamilton was an apparition that appeared just in time to prevent the unglamorous Patriots from committing the unthinkable and unexpected and defeating the already-anointed Holy Raiders. Also, Gruden wins with the Raiders that year maybe he stays and Al Davis doesn't lose his mojo if the Raiders had decided to prevent the Patriots from completing 3rd down passes to receivers who were sitting in the snow.

The fix has always been in play, too much money to be made not to be.

Well, allz I'm saying is that it wouldn't be unheard-of. The umps sure had a hard-on for Lasorda's Dodgers in that 1977 playoff with the Phils. Happy Hooten couldn't get a strike to save his ass. Just sayin'...

Damn straight. No one was stopping the Lekkers last season. Atlanta might this year, though. > > > > > Can't happen here? > > Didn't happen here. 'Dog does have a point; not saying it did happen, but it could. If the NBA was doing it, why would the NFL be immune?

Not every call. From NFL.com: Four of the six big officiating decisions went against Seattle. Does this mean a pro-Steelers bias, as some in the sports yak world are saying, or perhaps a slap at Mike Holmgren by the officiating guild? Hardly... The two decisions that favored the Hawks were the fourth-quarter replay reversal that gave possession, initially awarded to Pittsburgh, back to Seattle; and the no-call of a block in the back by Seattle during Kelly Herndon's record interception return. And of the four calls that went the Steelers way, only two of them were even questionable. > What the Steelers need very badly now is offensive > lineman...and some defensive linemen also cause big > ass Hampton and Jonesie are about spent. O-line yes. D-line we're good for now. We need to shore up the secondary.
