"Get Rhythm" - The RT Music Discussion Thread: Rock, Blues, Country, Soul, Funk, Punk, Bluegrass and more

Hi, everyone:

I thought it would be cool to have a music-discussion / clip-sharing thread here, for those of us who want to talk about music, our favorite bands and swap links to some of our fave performances.

I think this kind of thread will be a welcome respite from some of the heated political debates that mostly go on here

So, tell us, who are some of your faves bands or artists? Post some of your fave clips! Or tell us who / what you've have you been listening to lately.....

One thing that is fun about these kinds of threads is that sometimes a "theme" will develop: Like, one person will post a clip of a song that might inspire the next person to post a song on the same topic, or maybe another song by the same band, or a song by a related band, or a cover version of the same song by a different band, etc.

Or maybe a clip will just make you think of a different song for some subconscious reason. That's sort of cool, when a collective musical "stream of consciousness" gets going

Here, I'll start with a clip of the song that inspired the name of this thread: "Get Rhythm."

This is a pretty cool clip, as it is a montage of four different versions of Johnny Cash, doing one of his signature songs -- they assembled this clip from four different performances of "Get Rhythm" -- from 1956 to '58 to '82 to '91. Kind of interesting to hear the song "evolve"

Yeah, he's great. In addition to his music career, he's also the Minister of Culture in Brazil, which is interesting, since he was once imprisoned by the dictatorship that used to rule Brazil.

You completely missed the point of the theme from hipi & Rutherford.....

....of course, this does not surprise me.

Ha, good old Elvis. Well, I guess on Memorial Day, we can also take a moment to remember some of the rock n roll pioneers

Here is my favorite Elvis tune from "the later years" -- probably his last great single

"Burnin' Love"

well hipi, you know he gets defensive over dylan, don't be surprised if he starts pming you hatemail after that...

and for you wex, could you get dylan off the brain for a minute...rutheford posted a nice song that has lots of meaning and you keep going on about dylan trying to bury his posts
