...because we need one. This is just a thread to relax and chat. Anything goes. There are a lot of us here that get a long very well, even when we disagree. I thought I'd make a place for us to say hey, maybe play some music, and just shoot the shit. We can party here on the 4th. Whatever your choice, win or lose, I think we'll all need a drink.

Lu, You do more in an average day than I do in a month.

Candice The year we switched from real to artificial tree I missed the scent so much. I thought, hey, I know! I'll put a few drops of evergreen essential oil on the furnace filter and the whole house will smell like a pine forest. We choked and coughed...lol Maybe that idea would work with ONE drop of oil, not sure, never brave enough to try again.

Candice That's so touching. I keep working on how to be peaceful about lost loved ones at Christmas. Wish I could find ways to celebrate them instead of feeling melancholy missing them. The only thing I've come up with so far is the idea that I'm their ambassador they left behind and in charge of showering their loved ones with love. -- Edited by RainyKincaid at 11/16/2009 2:35 PM PST

NICE! You know I have actually done that before and they do get into it, but my brain is on fry, so I hadn't thought of it. Thanks Rainy!

Last year was the first that I switched over to an artifical tree. It's a pre-lit one but not enough for my tastes. So I ended up putting on a couple extra strings anyway. For the first few years I moved into my house (16 years ago), I always had a tree-trimming party. People are too busy or have moved away so I no longer have that party. But I still feel a bit a closeness to everyone when I unwrap and decorate the tree with those ornaments they brought all those years ago.

Aw, such sweet memories. I so miss snowing on Christmas Eve in Connecticut.

We've never had an artificial tree before, but the one I'm looking at is 6'5" pre-lit. Target just reduced the price from like $129 to $89, so I don't know how I can refuse (the more you spend the more you save???) I'm with you about the lights, tho. Not having to put the lights on the tree was the kicker that sold me on the idea. I really do love decorating the house and the tree with all things old and new. I have a collection of angel ornaments that I add to each year and I love putting them on. It's a tradition I started 12 years ago when my mom died, and each year as I'm hanging the decorations up, I feel especially close to her. She always made Christmas special.

I will be going all out this year with the decorations. Taking out every one of my villages. Last year I only put some of them out.

None of that for me either. I can't believe I did some Christmas shopping today while I was out. I normally wait until last minute.

Candice, Oh, I'm lusting after a new tree this year, too, pre-lit. That's the only thing I dread about decorating is lighting the tree.

I refer to the tree, presents and ornaments as celebrating Xmas. The religious holiday I call Christmas. I do celebrate Xmas. I like the tree and decorations, but only for about 2 weeks. Then I want my normal back.

I went to see the new "A Christmas Carol" this weekend with my hunny. I was so surprised he consented to go - not his type of movie - but I guess the 3-D convinced him to go. I love that movie - so many versions, but still so much fun to see the interpretation of the artists, etc. Anyway - got me into the Christmas Spirit. Now that they're on sale at Target, I think we're actually going to get an artificial tree this year. My kids will hate the idea of not having a real tree, as we have always had, but I'm thinking it will be cheaper in the long run (only have to buy it once) and will make clean-up that much easier. I plan on getting some pine-scented candles to make up for the lack of pine aroma.

Lu, Maybe tell the kids things are tough for a lot of families this year and ask them if they'd like to donate some of their toys that way it will be their idea and they'll feel good about it.
