The WORST Part of McCain's Pick is NOT that Palin is unknown and inexperienced The worst part of it is that he deliberately chose someone who was so monumentally unqualified, that the media would be so shocked, that they would then spend all day talking about it. And, therefore, it got the media to stop talking about what a great night it was for America last night, and how Obama so eloquently outlined the essence of America, its hopes, its dreams, and his plan on how to restore the things that once made America great. He used this woman's lack of credentials, and jeopordized the country's safety by choosing someone so obviously unqualified to be president if he were to die in office -- just so he could "step" on the media's justifiable enthusism and effusive praise for Obama's speech and Obama's vision for America's future. He did it to get America to stop talking about something positive and again fixate on the negative, which is all he knows how to do. He did it to distract America from how Obama so eloquently showed himself last night to be clearly the best choice to be President. What that says about McCain is what we have known all along -- that he is a cynical, despicable prick, completely lacking in character, and reeking of desparation. So desparate, in fact, that he would use this woman and hold her up to ridicule just to "change the subject" after Obama showed all of America that he has what it takes to be president -- and that he is superior to McCain on every level -- leadership ability, judgement, the ability to inspire, etc etc etc And the only way he could change the subject was by cynically choosing someone so clearly unqualified and inexperienced that the media was so stunned by his stupidity and cynicism that they stopped talking about the more positive, more uplifting, more ennobling events of last night, and of the entire week. Once again, McCain "got attention" by doing what he does best -- being a negative, pandering, cynical, nasty, manipulative old prick. So, he managed to change the subject, temporarily. But this will backfire on him big-time. America knows a sleazy, amoral huckster when they see one, and they know when they've been hustled, and they know rancid cynicism that stinks so bad they can smell it through their TV screens. Shame on John McCain. I will laugh my ass off when he loses by about 15 points in November

A shamefully ignorant and uninformed comment. And just plain wrong. Do your homework before making dismissive, taunting, uninformed remarks like that. Oh, wait, I forgot -- you're a McCain supporter.

Childish? I don't think so. There's a great deal of debate ongoing as to whether or not there is global warming in the extreme panic like some Gore propoganda suggests. And, as a matter of fact, this has been the coolest August I can remember in years. In fact, I remember in the 70's when the "experts" said we were headed for another "ice age". So, I'm one of those people who recognize we have serious pollution and energy problems and I'm all for cleaning up the joint, but I'm not necessarily convinced that changes in the planet are due solely to mankind's abuse and am more inclined to believe that the planet is just continuing its evolution. Maybe we're speeding things along, but I don't believe that in 20 years, the US eastern corridor will be completely gone. Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favor of saving the planet. If I could afford it, I'd put solar panels on my home. I eat organic foods. I recycle, I have a compost bin, I have a rain barrel, I'm all for wind and solar energy, I don't drive a SUV, I don't litter, I gave up aerosols about 20 years ago, but I'm not one of the "freaks" who take 5 minute showers while brushing my teeth as well, nor am I happy when I get a new toilet that takes three flushes now before the shit goes down it. I don't use styrofoam. I return my ink cartridges to HP Planet Partners. I try to buy as many recycled products as possible, including paper, stationary. For large parties, I've purchased utensils made from biodegradeable products like cornstarch instead of plastic. If I offended you by my terminology, I apologize. And if you believe all that extreme global warming stuff, that's great. I also hope that if you do, I hope you're not a hypocrite too. I hope you're living in a home made entirely of recycled materials and riding a bike to work. I hope you heat your home with solar energy and don't have A/C with freon. I hope you don't use chemicals on your lawn to control your weeds or use any cleaning products in your home to kill bacterias, molds and fungus. I hope you use hygiene products that are all natural and contain no chemicals, including deodorant. I hope that when you find you have termites or other pests, you don't use toxic chemicals to destroy them. If that's not how you're living, then don't lecture or judge me on global warming and its causes or pretend you are an expert.

Another person who is dumber than Sarah Palins youngest child. What the fuck? He picked someone who he trusted, who he thought he could mentor, who he respected, who had executive experience (something neither obama, biden or mccain have), someone who would know about womans healthcare (which mccain was accused of not knowing), someone who brings an expertise in oil and someone who McCain believed in. The fact that youre already attacking her and yet embraced Obama just shows your some dirty sexist, probably gay wanting to get married in san francisco so that when you die of Aids your partner can collect in testate.

SLR722, you must be a writer or serious analyst, because this thread is 100 percent correct in its assertion, as cynical, sexist, dangerous, and demeaning it is to not only women and the GOP, but our troops our country and the world. It shows that this man has ZERO judgment, only following his emotions and his heart, that although aligned around the period of 1998-2003, has since went past even legendary political expediency. He will do ANYTHING to become president. At this point, with someone being so close in the polls to pull such a stupid stunt, I wouldn't be surprised if the GOP has a Musharraf-type takeover planned as a failsafe. We did see flashes of it in the 2000 mess, it was just covered quickly. Stay tuned I guess. -- McCain says he'll follow Osama bin Laden to the gates of hell, but he won't even follow him to the cave where he lives..... Senator Barack Obama

I guess that would be your uninformed and dismissive term for people who know more about it than you do -- people who are better educated on the subject than you? Again, childish.

> Calm DOWN Well, this is the classic right wing response. My post was perfectly rational, but this is what right wingers do. If you point out some pretty ugly truths about the Right, and do it in strong, emphatic fashion, they try and discredit the merits of your argument by dishonestly representing you as somehow being too emotional, and dismissively telling you to "calm down." It's the classic condescending right wing response. It's what they do when you bust them on their bullshit, call them on their fucked-up agenda, or when they know you're right, and have no facts to counter your argument. Pretty childish, actually

Well, I was on the fence until this a.m. And I'm no animal lover.....and while I care about the planet, I'm not one of those global warming freaks. I'm just not happy with McCain's VP pick and I'm elated over Obama's. It's quite the cunundrum. I like McCain over Obama, although I don't agree with McCain on alot of things. I waited for the VP picks and now they're here and well.....while there's still debates to get through....I'm just on the other side of the fence than where I was leaning for the past 5 months or so, much to my own shock and dismay. What a long strange trip it's been.
