Hello regarding the New Rules on 4/11/08. I had lunch with a friend who is very Republican and parents are devout Catholics. Although she has her own opinions with the Catholic Church, she showed me the New Rules poking fun at the Pope and how the Catholic Church is like a cult, etc! Personally, I thought it was a different spin on the issue and didn't think it was in bad taste. She knows I love Bill Maher and the Show, yet she was fuming at how it is okay in the news for people to bash the Catholic Church, but never make fun out of the Jewish religion or Islamic religion. I wanted to know a suggestion on how to answer her...I want to say it's political humor, a TV Show, just don't watch it! But, she just doesn't get that it's just a TV Show that's thought provoking.

I am not answering for Bill, just playin the logic game to answer this common question:
"Bill, I realize that you had a Catholic father but why are you bashing the Pope? You bash Catholics and all Christian religions but never a word about Islam. What are you afraid of? How come that religion is never criticized by you?"
If you watch Bill's show on a regular basis you'll find he does make fun of all religions, including Islam.

Point out how ridiculous the fairy tales are.
Point out how hipocrytical the people are that push the fairy tales and their imaginary friends.
Point out the obvious - that people in this country are supporting a corrupt religious apparatus that is just as bad for our society as the muslim crazies or the mormons or (fill in your favorite sect/cult)
If you feel strongly about the silliness of religions and feel strongly against successful con-men like the pope pimping their imaginary friends on our average non-critical-thinker citizen, then you speak out like Bill does.
He rocks! He is a much needed pioneer on today's TV.
Some day we'll be free of religious madness. We'll discover that the earth is not flat and we are not the center of the universe, no matter what the Bush administration and the pope say.
Until then ... BILL - THANK YOU FOR THE FUNNY STUFF AND SPEAKING THE TRUTH!

I depart from Bill on the thought that people who are well educated can't be very bright if they believe in a god. It's easy to be educated by following group think and being good at taking tests. Believing in a god is a sign of fear and/or a lack of independent rational thought (and/or) just plain lack of common sense. Take a look at http://www.secularspirit.com, there is a presentation on that site that might help you.
I think everyone should believe in whatever they want to believe. They should have the right to even bring it into their politics. But as part of the political process if they start to suggest laws and policies that have religious content, that policy should be disallowed as discriminatory. Seems pretty simple to me.

ok here is one malbe you can answer weather to believe in god or not to is a choice for the person (not the talking snake theory) to belief there is something to life isn't a bad thing ,but most atheists feel its there duty to convert us too there way of thinking.
I believe and I am well educated!! (no I don't believe in talking snakes= the bible was written by people not hand written by god ) that being said I could say the same thing to any atheists ,you'r not intelligent because you don't believe !prove me wrong? and not the we spawned from apes cuz we also share 95% of dna with reptiles and 96 % with birds so that isn't an absolute , that being said prove there isn't something else?

As for the girl that got a beaten
well lets just say that people need to chill out on the threats to do this or that
if you thought that beating was bad you where a kid who didn't get into any fights as a child

if you thought that was an unfair fight you grew up upper class and got into a few fights with your friends or class mates .
if you thought that was a stupid kid fight you grew up in a lower middle class nayborhood .
if you though that was nothing but a bitch getting what she deserved you grew up in a ghetto .
That being said I think the girl needed to be taught how to fight if shes she's to talk about people who lived next door !she knew these girls .
I only seen 2 girls hit her and it wasn't at the same time so it was kinda fair (lol)
Do I think they should go to jail? NO!
Do I think if the girl needs to pay any Dr bills they should have to pay for them ? YES!!
Also malbe some parental punishment is in order here!!
You put these kids on the firing line from the word go,
don't let them have any fun or make any mistakes they wont be punished to the max for ( unless daddy's got money ) and you better get ready for some really bad behavior cuz when confined and bottled kids will do some really crazy stuff to be herd and treated as something more than something to be ordered around .
We are human and we do fight we have since the beginning and will till the end (what ever beginning you may have and what ever end you forsee lol). anyway food for thought let me know what you think?

you poor bastit !! I had a similar to your (tho the details are different ) you need to have your lawyer file a lost wages claim against the city (they have a criteria they have to follow!!) also if they purposely held up your permits they could be held liable so sue the city and the persons who held up the permits you wont get it all but you will win .

Wow, if there was a show made for me, that was it. I couldn't agree more about the Catholics. It's not bad enough that that religion has institutionalized child molestation and gotten off with a wrist slap, they have a phenomenal wealth and don't pay taxes. Did you ever hear about Cardinal Law's estate in Boston? It was worth almost $100,000,000. That is an unforgivable sin against humanity. They have built an empire on fear, corruption and, lies.
And how did we (the US) get in the position we're in?! We allowed this IDIOT President of ours (and his cronies) to launch us into a war that will ultimately cost 1000 times more than any defense of even the most organized missile attack. Did no one do the MATH on this one?!!
Bill, I think if you're supportive of Gay Marriage, you kind of have to support polygamy, don't you? I mean, if everyone is a consenting adult, of course. But yeah, the whole god complex, kid rape thing really gives the good polygamists a black eye. Much like the catholic church gives being gay a bad name. ... Um... that sounded better in my head.
Finally, can anyone explain why there is not just one, but several shows on television about FISHING? Dude, FISHING!! What's next? "The Paint Drying Channel"... "Sam's laid down a non-toxic replacement for the old latex paints... you can see the upper left is drying a little faster... look! LOOK at the changes in hue as it dries! OH THE HUMANITY!

Would you vote for a Presidential Candidate who promoised and kept their word to help the people of the USA? by:
1. Taxing the oil companies with a war tax to pay for the war.
2. Set a reasonable price at the pump across the country.
3. Ensure all Oil copany profits go into a green fund until green energy is available to whole USA and this fund is to be made available to anyone researching green energy
4. Stop all inports from China.
That would be a great start toward US recovery and might even end the war and even get us back to work!

It makes me sick to hear how much is spent of defense, how can using guns do that? When does "taking cover" come in to play?
I think I know how Bush or a retarded person from Texas can win the presidency. Where I come from, the "special" kids all rode in a "short bus" to school, to separate them. But in Texas everything is bigger, so who knew?

I have simple solutions to end all conflicts, make everyone happy, keep all from harm, repair the damage to the planet, and much more. It should cost no more than one "rebate check" to start it off. (I'll buy) The solutions may embarrass a few but no one will lose out on anything. Everyone will get more than enough to keep them all happy. Is there anyone willing to help? The only I exceed in is thinking. I have no education, never read more than a line or two from any book. But I do have very good forethought and my IQ is so high that I will be very famous after I'm dead and someone finds a way to understand my writings. (Any help must have an open mind and never dismiss an idea because they can't believe it) I won't accept any payment or award for sharing knowledge. I believe it cheapens ideas and adds to envy from others.
Time is running short, please help

Understand this is a very personal subject. I went to 9 churches before the age of 16. The most illicit (unlawful-from a latin word). As an innocent age 13, I went to a CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) convention. There I had to escape a party that was an orgy-the parents were upstairs. I was pretty sure they knew what was going on. I have spent much of my life asking the questions of life and death. My brother was accidently shot in a hunting accident at 14-I was 16. The Catholic priest wouldn't even come and try to console my dad, who was an alter boy as a youth. I have thought about the terrors created by the pope and his edicts regarding a woman's right to choose and the limitations placed on choosing a mate, to name just a couple of the major decisions in life that the Catholic Church makes for its followers. I consider him the most 'powerful' ('power' like electricity-good to heat your home or bad in electrocution) man in the world affecting more people intimately than any other and the suffering is tantamount to the anti-christ. After all this is the largest religion in the world. I consider religion the saving grace of the world-I also know that where there is Light, there is darkness. The motto of Theosophy is "Truth for Authority, not Authority for Truth". In the case of the criminal priests, this is the demonstration of the lack of moral integrity where the religious motive is not pure, but an escape of some individuals who need help and healing, into an organization that sheltered them even when they knew the depravity of their workers. In Spirit, our Unity is complete. What is the sickness of our fellow beings, is all of our sickness and we need these forums to send the message to our collective consciousness that we are sentient and our children are more than the objects that adults can abuse in their sickness.

Bill, are you kiddin' me? C'mon! kids being kids? It is sooo obvious you have no children. News Flash... it is not OK to lure someone in your home, lock them in , and film them getting the crap beating out of them by you and your friends! Do you really expect the girls parents to say "ahh honey, kids are just being kids.. it's no big deal that you were assaulted by your peers... just get up and brush yourself off...and by the way.. don't say mean things about them online anymore..." This is the tip of the iceburg Bill. It is Evil and premeditated. We used to tell our children "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words may never hurt me"... The reality is, "freedom" of speech can cause you great harm.. Back in the 80's, if we had beef with someone, we used to have "YO MAMA" joke battles to see who would win,,,, we live in a much different time now. A "YO MAMA" joke now just might get me locked in a damp basement without food and water for a week.... Those girls must have consequences.
