I think I read that it will be out next month, a 3-disc set with a run time of 8 hr. 35 min. but I haven't seen anything about extra features. Does anyone know what will be on the set? It seems pretty fast. John Adams screencaps Stephen Dillane screencaps

My husband complained of the same thing. He likes all the "outtakes" and extras! -- Angela HBO Forums Host

No extras that makes me very sad. I love to buy the DVD so I can see all the extras that you don't get when you see it on TV or in the movies. Guess I will be just watching on HBO over and over lol.

This is the first review of the DVD set I've found: http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviews3/johnadams.html The main extras are the David McCulloch Painting With Words doc, and a half-hour making-of bit. More than Elizabeth had, but no commentaries at all, which is a shame. -- Flavio's not coming.

I love to hear the commentary too and a lot of times will get the DVD just to hear all the extra info about a show or movie. -- Tim HBO Forums Host

I'm such a nerd that I often watch a new DVD with the director's commentary on first if I've already seen the movie. I just want to know more.

Thanks for the report Sir. I saw a doc about David McCullough the other night, and he talked about how he researches his subjects, how he gets inside their heads until he knows them like he knows his own family, and what they would do in most situations. He feels Adams was really the driving force behind independence but was too short, fat and cranky not to become overshadowed by the more glamorous and witty Franklin & Jefferson. An interesting guy, and seems like such a nice man. I hope there's more about him on the DVD. Stephen Dillane screencaps John Adams screencaps

I was disappointed in the episode about Henry Adams in the Adams Chronicles. They focused on his relationship with his wife Clover who committed suicide at 42 after the death of her father. That was the wrong thing to do on the life of a man who wrote what is widely regarded as one of the greatest books of all time. I'm watching the JQA epsiodes next.

Costco has the Admas Chronicles from the 70s for $35. It's 13 episodes. It's dated and nowhere near as good as John Adams but still well worth the money for the true afficiando. The first two discs are about JA then one with JQA. I'm still watching the eps on the third and fourth discs with JQAs son and grandsons in it but will report on the whole thing when I'm done sometime. There is no doubt that this was America's first political dynasty.

I have the entire series recorded but I'll buy the DVD set for the extras and commentaries. I just wish I knew what they will be. GRRRR I'm also very interested in the wigs, costumes, fabrics of the period, the camera work, etc. Stephen Dillane screencaps John Adams screencaps

Amazon lists the release date of 6/10/08. Also, the re-release of the Grammy winning 70s mini-series, The Adams Chronicles, has already taken place. I just ordered mine.
