hang on ........ the means in which they went about the questioning if he did the roids might not have been the greatest , but ,, think about this .......... pretty much every athlete when asked in the " true journalistic " fashion has blatantly looked straight down the camera lens and lied ......... so ,, if the " reporters " , if u wanna call them that ,,,,,, start playing dirty , then why not ........... if its good for the goose ,,, its good for the gander ......... if they are going to lie about their answers to real and legitimate questions of journalism than why not play their game ..... i have absolutely no sympathy for any of these cheaters , that ,,, BY THE WAY ,,,,,,,,,,,, ARE MAKING MORE MONEY A YEAR TO PLAY A GAME THAT ENTIRE DISTRICTS OF PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS MAKE . .. if t5hey are going to lie to the public than why not play the game that they started ,,,,,,,,,,, see how long it takes before they bury themselves by messing up and contradicting themselves and lying about their original lie ...............

Did anyone watch the Real Sports last night? I did. I think Pacman Jones is a punk. He feels he deserves special treatment. Well, he made his own bed. I hope Goodell bans him for life. He is a bad image for the NFL. Next up is dogfighting. I don't know how anyone can watch dogfighting. I am not a major dog lover, but I condone anybody who likes that kind of stuff. Animal cruelty like that is totally uncalled for. Michael Vick should be ashamed of himself. As for Javon Walker, I feel terrible for him. Losing his teammate and roommate who was special to him is tough. Also, I understand why he didn't attend the funeral. It was hard for him. Javon Walker is a class act and so are Derrent Williams' teammates and friends. No one should kill anyone. Finally, let's talk about Agassi-Graf. It's amazing how those two Tennis icons can stay married. Agassi has always been a class act. He did what not even Sampras did and that is win all four majors. To all McEnroe fans, McEnroe only won 1/2 of career majors. He won 7, but he didn't win the French or Australian. People will say that the French is meaningless, but the truth is very few Americans can win at French. Lately, very few Americans can win at all. Roddick isn't doing anything. In my opinion, Graf is just as good as Navratilova. She won all the Four Majros in one calendar year and won just as many Majors as Martina. I sure hope they both can continue to make more money.

I agree 100% with realjam's comments about the Gary Sheffield interview.I'd like to add to his very well written and thought out opinon is if this was a 3 hr interview why is the segment barely 5 mins long??!! I tell you why... Real Sports could not edit enough of the interview to get what they wanted..which was Gary's head! If your so Real air the rest of the interview in an unbiased way!!I'm not a Sheffield fan per-say but I am sick of the media's quest for ratings and self-serving agendas by lies and deception! Like realjam asked where are the interviews of the "powers-that-be" of baseball..they are the one's that have allowed many forms of "cheating" for many many years even before Bonds came along. Yet, now that Bonds is breaking a record that people in this country still want to say belongs to Babe Ruth (he should have an * too because his home runs were during segergation).Because Bonds is not media friendly he is the be-all and end-all of the problems pleaged in baseball. It is the hyporcrits that run baseball and the hyporcrits that have a microphone and a tv camera that use miss-direction and argubaly racism to point the finger at one man. ps. I thru racism in there because I don't hear anything about Mark McGwire..and don't make the excuse he's no longer playing so it makes him immune to scrutiny because he was haled and cheered when he was smashing the ball too. He's actually a coward and ran when he saw the writting on the wall and everyone gives him a pass. I am Sick of the Hypocrits!

"Real Sports ... goes one-on-one with baseball star Gary Sheffield..." Is this what journalism has come to? Yeah, I know its just an interview with a baseball player but the tone and assertion of this piece, in my opinion, truly speaks to the current state of journalism. I know, in registering for this site, that I just agreed to "...Be respectful and civil..." and have been informed that "...we do not allow...abusive...language" But if Real Sports actually cares about what its viewers think, I say this... You must be stupid...stupid...stupid! To think that your sincere viewers would see your interview of Gary Sheffield as anything other than farcical muckraking. First, the piece sets up the context of Gary Sheffield as an instigator of controversy by being outspoken and bent on telling the truth throughout his career. Then during the interview you go in for the kill, for the "gotcha" moment, by asking Sheffield why he just can't admit that he used steroids. It's one thing to have used steroids unwittingly and it's another to have knowingly used an illegal performance enhancing substance with the intent of unfairly improving your performance. The way in which the confession was pursued during this "one-on-one" seemed to me to be more an attempt to blur these two distinct scenarios. It was clear to me that Gary Sheffield was saying that intent and change in physicality are what defines one as a steroid user or not. To Gary Sheffield's credit he did not allow himself to be duped or used. I applaud him for understanding the too often danger of simply wanting to be liked. Had he succumbed to Real Sports' self-serving interpretation of the facts- had Gary Sheffield been weak by all too commonly caring more about his PR and had he acquiesced by saying something like, "Ah shucks, OK, that's a good point, I guess I did use steroids", the next day's headlines would have simply read something like, "Sheffield admits using steroids!" I believe Gary Sheffield is smart and that he understands this sad game. Real Sports is undoubtedly staffed by a host of smart individuals. I have to believe that Real Sports understands the legitimate distinction of these two scenarios as well as Gary Sheffields' points about intent and physical change. Moreover, given his numbers and physicality over the years, I also have to believe that Real Sports knows that in all likelihood, Gary Sheffield is not one of the "cheaters". Instead of going after someone in authority who has perpetuated steroid use, most importantly, by looking away, Real Sports decides to try and turn the sad game on an individual who is "controversial". Could this not reasonably be viewed as taking our eyes off the ball? By trying to develop the potential of a perceived inconsistency, Real Sports, in my opinion, went after the scalp of one of the few individuals who has been unafraid to take the important public action of speaking out. Can Real Sports be "real" enough to report on how an individual player can seemingly be more honest and truthful than the caretakers of both baseball and journalism, itself. Why wasn't baseball or journalism peppering anyone with questions during the Sosa/McGuire steroid extravaganza? Consequently, I can only describe the interview of Gary Sheffield as a journalistic performance piece. It turns out that the questions used to pepper him were not an attempt to get at an important truth. Worse would be if it turned out that these questions were yet another sad game attempt to manufacture truth. That would mean that the apparent passion behind the questioning was, in the end, only an attempt to appear "journalistic" like candidates are forever trying to look presidential? These last ten years have shown us an increasing fallibility and even corruption within our society's most important institutions and among some of our most powerful and responsible individuals. It seems to be occurring so much as to challenge the definition of normalcy. Calling it out, even within the most mundane setting, is the first action one individual can take against it. Silence and indifference, i.e., selfishness, in my opinion, is what nourishes the weeds. Only playing nice and being non-contentious, while less disruptive and more comfortable, relegates us to become part of the problem- part of the bureaucracy; part of the red tape; the rigmarole. You know what bureaucracy is...? INSTITUTIONALIZED COWARDICE. And then who wins? Look around and tell me I'm making a mountain out of a molehill. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. It's only an interview of a baseball player. But, like my coaches told me, every play counts!

Why does everyone have problems with gary sheffield? It is bull that black men like sheffield, bonds, and charles barkley for that matter are often looked down on just because they have an opinion or make statments that people don't like. The yankees traded sheffield because of his shoulder injury and no other reason and gary knows that and is just not happy to be gone.It is as simple as that.As a yankee fan i would give up abreu, damon or both to have gary sheffield back.

Well said about Beckham. I too am disgusted by columnists, anchors, and show hosts on the other network that is promoting MLS, bashing soccer. And yes bashing is the word. It does sound off like they are jealous or threated by soccer. In a nutsell maybe they are, because if Soccer does rise in the ranks of American sports...they need to now learn to cover the sport or find a new job

Sheffield's a punk and always has been.To attack Torre with such conviction and the only one to back him up is Kenny Lofton who didn't hit his weight in NY.Then he wants us to believe that "steroids is something you shoot in your butt"?Get real Gary you're not a Hall of Fame player - You're not even a Hall of Fame person.

Thank you, thank you, thank you so much.I love the words you dedicated to Devid Beckhand at the end of your show. It`s amezing how people can watch poker, and all type of stuff on TV,but when it comes to soccer, nobody seems to care at all.I really dont know why people in this country wanna put the USA above all other countries in the World. It`s a fact that this is the greatest country on Earth, but where is the humility.I have gotten the chance to meet some very rich and very smart people in my life and if other people wouldnt have told me who they are,I couldnt have guessed they were what they really are.The greatness of an individual or a nation is not trying to be on top of everyone else or feel better than anybody else, but to have the ability to integrate yourself among others and fit it. The world embraces the USA but I cant say the same thing about the USA.I`m sorry to have made this as long as it`s,but I wish a lot more people did watch your show and actually listen to what you had to say about Beckhand and soccer in the USA.
