Hi Jasone, and welcome! We love getting new Romies joining us.

As to the question you pose, why that title? Think on it. What is the lesson of the Tortoise and the Hare? In all those intereactions who were the Hares (rushing blindly from one act to another never believing they wouldn't cross the finish line first), and who were the Tortoises (slowly, steadily, plodding along, knowing that things moving too fast don't always see what will trip them up, thus they get to the finish line first)?

In the Atia vs. Servillia, Atia is the Tortoise, Servillia is the conniving one, the Hare. Servillia is thrawted at every corner by Atia. Remember in previous episodes, many women tend to "dismiss" Atia (including Calpurnia, Caesar's wife!) or is suprised when she says something of note. Others over look her cunning, her abilities. Atia is the Tortoise.

In the Octavian vs. Antony conflict, Octavian is the Tortoise and Anthony the Hare. Antony doesn't believe for one second this "child", Octavian, could ever best him at anything. Inlcuding taking the love of the people from Antony. But Octavian is that cunning Tortoise, and wins on the field against Antony, yet smart enough to give credit where it is due, Agrippa, Hirsha, Pansa, etc.... knowing he needs their allegance/help in the future. Same with Cicero... he's a hare, against Octavian the Tortoise.

Octavian vs. Atia... both are Tortoises, intrersting conflict there... which Tortoise wins there?

The comparison of Pullo and Vorenus... at the slave camp, Vorenus is agressive, wants to rush in, a Hare. Pullo is the tortoise, slowly, methodically gets what he needs, until the hare steps up (Vorenus) and the tortoise (Pullo) must stand and be of assistance to Vorenus. This is a case of the tortoise and the hare working together for a common goal.

Hope this helps.

oooo that would be good for several seasons... would explain alot to the non Rome fanatics as to what/why during GJC's time! I could see at least 1 season with the brothers Gracci, 2 seasons with Gius Marius (and that would introduce our beloved GJC as a young boy!)... and of course, Sulla! That's good for 2 seasons as well... Sulla.... LOL.. his history definetly could have put Caligula's into the "small potatoes" category! LOL Then of course 2 seasons of GJC as a young man... show his marriage to Cinnilla, the birth of Julia... his beloved Aunt Julia's death and then Cinnilla's death... the young Boni... Showing Cato was always that brash pest! And a very young Servillia... now that's one hell of a history in itself! LOL
And of course, how beautiful our Atia has/had always been...

I'd pay to see all that! :)

Whatever happened to our Rome movie?

And there is plenty of material for a third season. Worst case, Season 3 could be a prequel from the Gracchi to Marius and Sulla. It could be fabulous. Very few non-classicists are familiar with that time. There is so much that can be written about that is exciting!

I thought that they had written a third season of Rome, but decided to condense season 2 and 3 into one season. That's the way it seemed to me. It was expensive to produce. Now, the set has burned down, so forget it!

LadyC is correct. Life is enough!

While I agree how great it would be to chronicle the rise and fall of Rome. Remember, the Roman empire lasted 700 years. I don't even think M.A.S.H. could run that long. Even with the time elapse factor. Plus, the show was super expensive to produce.

I too wish Rome would continue. Wouldn't it be awesome to have the series actually chronicling the rise and fall of Rome; the descendents of all the characters; all the way to modern day Rome. I would find that fascinating!!! Directors, producers, writers...give it some thought.

Was a big disappointment that they canceled Rome.

Big Love was the only show they had left that was even semi-decent, but it is lacking.

They let Inside the NFL go, finally realized I was paying for something I do not watch anymore so I canceled HBO.

If I hear of a 3rd Season of Rome will be signed back up in a heart beat but I don't see that happening.

I enjoyed Rome very much ;as an educated woman I found It very appelin.gI found the story's well written and visually enticing for men and woman. This is truly HBO greatness shown. It is a far cry more interesting than Bigoted Or the Sopranos ever were.Big love lacks sensuality and a far sense of rolls that men and women enact in ours daily lives a very cheap show for a very cheap audience. Mormons aren't interesting their blah.
as for the Sopranos I watched every episode on dvd back to back became very boring. The people at HBO should reconsider making a season 3 .At first I myself was slightly skeptical about the show the heavy accents while watching the first to episodes were over powering .I almost did not watch any more bit I enjoyed the rest of the first season and second. I was dishearten and pissed after renting season one and two that there would be now season three.Well maybe HBO should just make a Rome movie or start an Alexander series or something or something similar because the quality of their other shows are boring unthougtful crap not worth of the time it takes to find out oh no one get whacked pr fucked in this episode .I say to you again how terribly boring g
