Although it was a wonderful show (one of my all time favorites), as with all shows, it ended. Life goes on. Enjoy it! Get out and enjoy the beautiful warm weather. As Mark Antony said, while in the boat with Vorenus after his naval defeat, "water still tastes good, etc." In other words... enjoy life! Life is enough! LadyC -- Show her what she's done.

It seemed to me like the characters had more depth IMHO. -- __________________________ Jaydes HBO Forums Host

I was very upset when I heard that Rome was going to be cancelled. Then after the last episode I felt like commiting suicide like Mark Anthony because it was my favorite show. Since the last episode I have been surviving by watching the, "Tudors" on Showtime & documentaries about Rome on the, "History Channel". I finally cancelled HBO because there was absolutely nothing on the channel of interest although, "John Adams" was ok. The grief that I have suffered since the last episode has been tramatic. So please for my sake continue with the series.

Jonathan Stamp, according to his imdb page, doesn't seem to be up to any projects these days. Bruno Heller, the creator and head writer of Rome, has written a new show called The Mentalist set for the fall schedule on CBS.

Cast and Crew - Where are they now?

I would love to know what the cast and crew are doing now. Not just the actors, the writers and directors. What is Jonathan Stamp working on now? It would be hard to go from such a fantastic project as Rome to something less exciting. Does anyone know? -- "Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none." Shakespeare

I hope they do bring back Rome. Also if they do I hope they find a way to write that Lucius Vorenus actually did indeed survive. Like maybe Pullo lied about him dying so Vorenus could retire to the country or something.

We love Rome! Family and I in the US, have both seasons on DVD (it was always out at the video store so couldn't rent it) and want more Rome. We hate it that they aren't making any new episodes. There is absolutely nothing else like this show available. Even the show intro is especially fabulous and creative. HBO sucks for replacing this show with polygamist propoganda crap like Big Love. Anybody can turn a multi-partnered relationship into a soap opera but it takes real talent to create something like Rome. So sad.

Monte, You are absolutely correct. This is the best thing ever produced on TV. I am in Bangkok so we get news and episodes late over here. I am hearing that there is no season 3. Is this correct? It is a shame if this series discontinues and crap like american idol goes on! Matthew bangkoklawyer@hotmail.com

Puerile? "Rome?" In my humble opinion you are incorrect. Rome is the best filmed entertainment since Edison invented filmed entertainment and it is a joy to me and my wife that makes all other programs second rate. I was surprised that no one responded to your opinion but I guess that proves those who love Rome are above such things, except for me. I, too, have watched it a couple of times and will probably watch it several more. I've never been a "fan" of anything but I've gone over the edge about Rome. I find myself caring about the actors while I watch the series and when I'm finished I find myself hoping that they are all on to good things, since they cannot be on to bigger or better things. And I LOVED Ciarin Hinds, he was astounding as Caesar. I can't imagine not liking this show. I won't lend out my Rome DVD's, though I have hundreds of others that I've lent out without a care. I'm going to buy another couple of sets and lend them out to friends so they can see what I'm going on about. HBO, if you do read these threads, DO THE ROME MOVIE RAY STEVENSON MENTIONED IS IN DISCUSSION!!! Google his name if you're interested.

Actually, the I Claudius series starts during the reign of Augustus, and goes through until the death of Claudius. Augustus did indeed rule for 40 or 41 years, and died at the age of 77. By most accounts, his reign was a successful one. As for Livia, there is no evidence at all she poisoned Augustus, it seems unlikely and most modern scholars dismiss it. There were rumours about her involving the death of Marcellus, and possibly a few of the others you see portrayed in I Claudius, but these were just rumours and there is no direct evidence of it. Some of the writers mention these rumours, but Suetonius, who had access to official records and documents, does not mention these rumours. We'll never know for sure, but don't go by what you see on I Claudius, this is drama for television remember, and very enjoyable to watch, I loved the series myself. But they had Livia bumping off just about everyone in the cast, it was preposterous. Tiberias was a very great general in the army, his reign as emperor not so pleasant. Although he did leave the Treasury in fantastic shape, economically he seems to have done a good job, but he seems to have been a rather cold, unhappy person who never connected with the public, and stopped caring eventually. he left Rome later on in his reign to live on Capri, and never returned. it was during this period that his Prefect, Sejanus, was really running the show in Rome, and that's a whole other story! Augustus and Livia's forcing him to divorce his wife Vipsania and marry Julia seems to have been the breaking point for him, he became reclusive, cold and gloomy after that, and it is said never recovered from what they made him do. His marriage with Julia was certainly not a happy one.

Flatworm, 81 years passed between the time Octavian (Augustus) became Emperor and Nero took power. A lot, and I mean A LOT, of stuff happened during that time. Octavian ruled for 41 years. That's gotta be some sort of record. Imagine all the plotting and killing that took place during his reign. That's enough for 2-4 seasons right there. After his dead Tiberias took power thanks to Livia. He held on for 15 years. Livia was the most brutal woman in Rome at the time. She poisoned all her adversaries. Tiberias succeeding was apparently not what Octavian had in mind. Livia must have connived and murdered to get him in power. As the story goes, Octavian eventually found out what a murderous wench his wife Liva was. He secluded himself, surrounded only by his most trusted friends. He knew Livia poisoned people so he had food tasters making sure his meals weren't poisoned. She eventually got him by poisoning the figs in Octavian's private garden - figs that were still on the tree! After Tiberias, Caligula took over. The series I Claudius starts around the death of Tiberias, if I'm not mistaken. I heard stories of how Tiberias loved Claudius. I was disappointed I Claudius didn't show their relationship (Claudius only mentioned how much he adored Tiberias). They could finally show their relationship. I'd prefer HBO wouldn't go as far as Caligula. I found Rome had too much sex as is. Imagine how they would portray Caligula. The series would be rated X. They could continue from Octavian's appointment to the death of Tiberias. That's over 50 years of stuff happening. John the Baptist and Jesus Christ lived and died during their reign. If that's not material, I don't know what is... -- Edited by PsxMeUP at 04/01/2008 6:53 AM PDT

I too loved 'Rome'. I bought both seasons and watch them all the time. I was never as disappointed as when they cancelled the series. I don't know why HBO can not at least run 'Rome' as their series on 'On Demand'. They run everything else but not Rome. When I saw that the first episode was on this weekend I called everyone who had never watched the series, and all of them were hooked! (I don't lend out my dvd's so this is the first time these people had seen what I had raved about for so long) Please HBO at least bring it back to "On Demand". You have all your other old series on there so bring back 'Rome' and leave it there.

I too was disappointed that "Rome" was cancelled after only two seasons. But what were they to do next, reprise "I, Claudius," which picks up very nearly where "Rome" left off, with Augustus, Agrippa and Octavia still around? It would be a little like when they remade the already perfectly done 1952 version of "The Importance of Being Earnest" in 2002. It was hard, and completely unnecessary, to try to top the original. Until "Rome," "I, Claudius" was the finest television program ever produced. (But, of course, in my opinion, if there is a scale of one through ten in rating television shows, and "Rome" receives a ten, then the second best television show ever made would get a six.) "Rome" was obviously based roughly on Plutarch's "Lives" and Tacitus, with a bit thrown in from Julius Caesar's "Commentaries" and a few of Cicero's letters. Subsequent seasons could stand on firmer historical ground, and be produced in greater and more precise detail, by drawing from Gibbon's "...Decline and Fall...". They could have picked the next season up at the beginning of Nero's reign. Things remain really interesting in Rome for a VERY long time, and it would make GREAT drama, starting with Nero's life and reign, followed by only a few episodes of the too-good-to-be-entertaining Nervo-Trajans, the Antonines, and running all the way through Constantine. They could have kept it going strong for many, many seasons to come. Hey, they had emperors like Domitian, Commodus and Elagabalus who made Caligula look like a responsible and effective public servant, the stories of whom are historically well documented and would make magnificent and MOST entertaining television! But what I want to know is WHEN IS HBO GOING TO RELEASE "ROME" ON BLU-RAY??? If ever a television program was made to be viewed in high definition, "Rome" is it. I can find no information on this site about any plans for such a release. To HBO bean-counters: I hereby do solemnly swear that, on the very first day "ROME" comes out on Blu-Ray, I shall buy it at whatever price point you think best. -- Edited by Flatworm at 03/24/2008 10:14 AM PDT -- Edited by Flatworm at 03/24/2008 10:15 AM PDT

I think HBO should look at Rome from a different perspective because somebody up in Time-Warner-land missed some important statistics after season 2. Rome has a huge following around the world on DVD. I rented the series in Poland after it was canceled. The video store only had season 1 in stock. When I told one of the clerks there was a 2nd season he almost leaped from joy. I had the HARDEST time in the world renting the second season in its entirety - the damn DVD's were always out! It's my theory the series is picking up solid momentum around the world. It's now showing in Bulgaria. Unfortunately, this following is not as vocal or transparent as the American one. Rome is only now reaching its full audience, but alas the show has been canceled. Don't give up on Rome just yet HBO. This is one series that can have a triumphant revival. Take the time off to build solid scripts and come back to Rome. You have legions of loyal fans waiting for your return! -- Edited by PsxMeUP at 03/19/2008 3:08 PM PDT
