From Antony's assurance in "Passover" that he will serve out his term and retire to the provinces, to "plough my fields and f**k my slaves like old Cincinnatus." To Cicero's note to Octavian, "tell him I've exposed Antony for the debauched wreck that he is... in "These being the Words of Marcus Tullius Cicero", what is your favorite quote so far?

One question: Does anyone know what type of hand held sword Pullo used to stab the guard? It looked to be a sort of blunt sword, with a handle that fit securely between the fingers of the hand. -- Vincit Qui Partitur

How about when Pullo rescues Cleopatra with her slave in attendance, stabbing the guard in a frenzy, looks up while still stabbing away, looks at them both and say's "Hello Ladies" Or when Verinus puts the sword through the bandits throat who wants to kidnap Pompey. Pullo, eating, looks up and says "BIt harsh wasn't it?" Classic!

How about Vorenus' reply to Cleopatra when she asks if Pullo is a good man: "Define good"

I believe what preceded Lucius' "F**k 'em" retort was "Greeks - they talk a whole lot of nonsense..." Indeed, the historical research for this series is pretty accurate. I believe it was the Greeks who first contemplated the notion of athiesm, which must have surely influenced Marcus Aurelius' gloom-and-doom reflections that all of human history and achievements are but "smoke and ash and a tale, and not even a tale." And so I raise my cup with Lucius and Marc Anthony! -- Edited by Laneia at 09/21/2007 4:16 PM

Don't know if anyone has given this one but when Antony is contemplating his death and shows genuine fear and uncertainty when asking Vorenus, "Do you believe in an afterlife?" Vorenus:"Of course!" Antony:"Some men don't you know. Learned men. Greeks I think." Vorenus:"Greeks? Fuck em!" Antony: "Fuck em!" Two tough Roman soldiers there giving their fingers to any beliefs non-Roman. And: Before he commits suicide, Antony: "At least I'll get rid of this fucking hangover." Classic.

How can you people forget the chanting of THIRTEEN by Pullo and Vorenus at the Gladiator arena... gives me chills. also did you know that arena derives from the word sand which was used to line the floors of the arenas

> I think this was supposed to be some great dialog, > and they failed tremendously in my opinion. The whole > thing felt rushed, just like the rest of the series. > Vorenus looked like he didn't have a clue what he was > talking about, and Antony's facial expression > suggested the same thing. He was like > "OOHHHKAY...you've been hitting Poscar's opium pipe > again, Lucius...go lay down". > > And Antony was NOTHING like Vorenus. He lived life to > the fullest. He screwed numerous women. He like to > party...life was a party. So whatever "disease" > Vorenus may have had in his soul, it did not > afflict Mark Antony. > I couldn't disagree more about Antony's facial expression. I think that look was "Oh s**t, I'm f***ed if that is the case, and I hope to the gods that your wrong" Antony knew what Vorneus went through with the children and Niobe, and saw first hand how Vorneus basically had "lost it" there for awhile. He knew Vorenus begged Antony to take him with him to Egypt because he could not handle being around his children that hated him. He knew what "haunted" him, and if anything remotely similar was going on with Antony he wanted no part of it. Antony knew Vorenus was fairly intelligent, and he always respected Vorenus deep down for his ruthlessness on the battlefield, his ability to all "come through" for Antony when he needed him the most, and ultimately his loyalty. Enough so to constantly bring him back into the fold time and time again. Ultimately what Vorneus was commenting on was Antony's way of igonoring Atia when she came to Egypt. Deep down he still has some feeling for her, and was unwilling to see her face to face because he was now with Cleopatra and seemingly was a changed man. His "cowardice" (as Octavia put it) or "disease" (as Vorenus put it) is what was being referred to. Which was very similar to the way Vorneus handled things with his children after Vorena the elder turned on him. Instead of trying to work things out with the children when things got tough, Vorenus took the "easy way out" and bolted for Egypt, ignoring confrontation. Similarly, Antony chose to ignore confronting Atia when the "going got tough". So whether they have a "disease", or are simply "cowards" is arguable, but either way Vorenus and Antony are similar in this respect (and some others, mostly how they handle being in charge of many people) So, I agree that on the surface Vorneus was nothing like Antony, but if you look past the surface, you may find that Vorenus and Antony had more in common than you think.
