Episode 22: De Patre Vostro (About Your Father)

The series finale. In the aftermath of the battle of Actium, Mark Antony returns to Alexandria, settling into a world of numbing debauchery with Cleopatra. Meanwhile, Octavian turns to Pullo to try to convince Vorenus to give up Cleopatra's palace in lieu of a fiery siege. Predictably, Vorenus refuses, but Cleopatra seems all too willing to dupe Mark Antony in order to save her life, if not her honor.

I'm new around here and I wanted to say hi!

I finished watching the Rome season 2 DVDs. I cried so hard! It was a beautiful series. I want it to continue.

Yeah I think it was an interview with Kevin McKidd (regarding his new show that I have yet to see) when asked about any type of sequel to Rome, he said Heller told him something like "oh, you are not dead" or something along those lines.....

Another clue (from the actual series) that leads me to believe he may be alive is that when people around Pullo die (namely Eirene and Gaia) he starts talking to them saying "you aren't dying", etc, yet at the same time you know that he knows they are going to die.

Yet with Vorenus at the end, he is talking to Vorenus as if it is a foregone conclusion he is going to die.... But with a chuckle....

Hard to explain, but it seems like the exact opposite reaction to the situations, which makes me believe the "exact opposite" outcome is likely....

In an interview (can't remember when this year) it was stated that Vorenus did not die.

Yes Kev, that was supposed to be Cleo and Mark Antony.

Loved the episode, good way to end it. but like most other viewers I think this could have and should have gone on a lot longer and told a much more grand story.

With Sopranos ending (terribly I might add) and now this, could the other shows I watched on HBO (entourage and sleeper cell) end in such disappointment as well?

I support all the shows I watch by buying them on DVD when available. But what is the point if they leave a show hanging in the wings? I'm not going to be giving HBO any more of my money or watching any of their shows if they cant please their viewers.

Back to reading books I guess heh

I happen to believe the series ended in a way that it *could* be continued (crossing fingers).

I feel that Vorenus did not die, as Pullo was a bit too noncholant in his manner of relaying this to Octavian - after lying about killing Caesarian. Considering all these two have been through, I think Titus would have been a little more broken up about the death of Lucius.

And I think the casting of Cleopatra was brilliant! Historically, she was no great beauty but was very charismatic - which is pretty much how she appeared in the series. She was also extremely learned, being the only Ptolemy who bothered to learn the native Egyptian language (BTW, she really wasn't a "queen," but was the last Pharaoh of Egypt). She supposedly possessed a very melodic voice which was described as almost hypnotic in nature. I wish the historians for the film had portrayed her intelligence a little more than her seducive talents, but oh well - that's Hollywood...

Great idea, to continue to follow Rome's emperors all the way to the fall. I'd use Vorenus' kids as the new Vorenus & Pullo. We really don't need a new Atia, not with Livia and Julia around, Octavia still alive and kicking, and remarrying?

I just finished watching the final episode - It appears that the show's producers may have anticipated the close down of the show early on. the very ending with vorenus dying and his daughter coming to terms with her father seemed thin. The proper burial ritual should have been shown(or at the very least the finale should have been extended to more than a mere hour). To me, there is still more story in Rome that should be told. I always thought that Fox network was the only stupid kid on the block that would cancel shows on the fly but you would think HBO would be intrigued in expanding Rome for another season - too much is left unsaid. Additionally, now that HBO has no more Sopranos they need a better bigger hit - why not Rome?.

Has a cancelled show ever really come back because of petitions? I feel like I always hear the disappointed viewers rallying for the return of the show but has it actually ever happened?
So the first time I ever saw Rome was Episode 2 finale. WOW.
Now I am here, reading the summaries for every episode from before. One of the many that didnt quite catch it when it was on but now I'm hooked and sad that there's no more ;)
The actor who plays Octavian is just incredible, how he's angelic and evil all at once. His convo at the end with Cleo was totally awesome!

THIS SHOW IS TRULY GREAT. YOU COULD TAKE THIS SHOW TO THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE. YOUR NEW SEASON WOULD CONSIST OF AUGUSTUS GROWING UP AS A YOUNG EMPEROR. EACH SEASON USE ANOTHER EMPEROR. TAKE THIS TO THE DOWNFALL. THERE WAS NO LACK OF ACTION THATS FOR SURE. BRUTAL WARS,DECEPTION, ORGYS, DRUGS, DEATH, KINDA SOUNDS LIKE MODERN TIMES EXCEPT NO TECHNOLOGY.

ANY SHOW THAT IS UP FOR 7 EMMYS SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN OFF THE AIR. THERE IS SO MUCH MORE THAT CAN BE DONE. WHEN PEOPLE SEE THAT THIS SHOW,MUCH LIKE OTHERS ON HBO HAVE WON AWARDS. THEY WILL START TO WATCH. THIS ISN'T ANY TYPICAL STORY. THIS IS FOR THE MOST PART TRUE HISTORY. HISTORY TOLD IN THE PROPER WAY , SEASON 1 AND SEASON 2 , ARE BOTH A LEARNING EXPERIENCE AND ENJOYING ENTERTAINMENT. IT SURE IS BETTER THAN ANYTHING ON THE HISTORY CHANNEL!!!!!!!!!

Julianus: live for 2 years in Rome to do the
> filming.

I personally think, after reading some reports on Julius Caesar from Ciaran' Hinds' website, that he probably liked it...but i'm sure, just like the guys who played Pullo and Vorenus, that Julius Caesar or either men were incredible parts mind you, whom, if I ever got the chance...would probably start out low budget or in my home by myself somewhere out of sheer enjoyment to learn the characters and what they did. That's why I like watching Rome, because of the actors portrayels and possibly the effect that it could have actually really happened. I have not read that much on the three or anyone else in Rome, but now that I think about it, probably should...or just buy Season 2 next month because I just got Season 1 last month.
