James Purefoy

I don't know if there is already a thread about James because I am new and there are too many threads to go through and see so I am creating one now. I LOVE the beard!!

I read a book on Cleopatra, historical fiction mind you, much like our beloved Rome, but he is just as I pictured MA.

He's made a fan out of me. MA's my favorite character.

When Antony stands behind the guard at Atia's door and calls her name, it made me think of Brando calling up to "Stella" in " A Streetcar Named Desire".

Purejoy gave a super performance, as always. I wish I'd been on these threads last season when we saw him starkers - full frontal. I plotzed.

Of course he is sexy. But as an actor, he is superb. The careful building of his character to his his death in 30B.C. The new look give him a decadent look of someone who knows he is going to die. He lived in Egypt for more than three years plotting against Octavian. The series is pushing history along at a fast pace. For example, through the whole two season, Anthony was really married to Fulvia, his very strong and ambitious wife. The series completely ignored her. His marriage to Octavia, came only because of Fulvia's death. Purefoy has the dark soul of this series. Bravo.

So hot this man is.
I loved the beard,
but there is just something
soooo sexy about the way he looked
in this last episode, sweaty, tattooed, and with
the eyekohl.
So so sexy

James was still to die for in make-up, henna tats and Egyptan skirts.

*swoon*

I'm extremely impressed that a nomad can spell chaise longue correctly. (kidding) It means long chair, not lounge chair, mes amis . Thank you, thank you. Have you seen the 1917 version of Cleopatra with Theda Bara - the first real tramp - I mean vamp? She weighed in at about 190 but that was the standard for beauty at that time.

There's a good feminist take on all this in Lucy Hughes-Hallett's, "Cleopatra - Histories, Dreams, and Distortions."

Especially since he volunteered for the assignment.

NMB3 - I'm really happy that you liked that one. Yes, Cleo is a bit heftier this year. And so is Atia. Have you noticed they no longer film her sex scenes in the nude? She's always fully dressed. Polly Walker, who's 40, is still gorgeous in my book.

When this is all over (!) I'm gonna really, really miss you guys!

Yes! He would have been fabulous as agent OOVII.

This week's episode was the first time I've seen Antony at a loss for words. When Octavian threatened to expose him, he knew the game was up.

Of course, being banished to Egypt in the company of the lovely Cleopatra is not such a bad thing. Let the games begin, again.

I've been going back and forth with Antony and Pullo all season. But, Sunday's episode tipped in Antony's favor. I read somewhere he tried out to be James Bond. He would've been great!
