Top billing, baby. Top billing! Ray Stevenson, Christopher Walken and Val Kilmer Ray Stevenson, Christopher Walken and Val Kilmer will play the leads in "The Irishman," a crime story that Jonathan Hensleigh will direct. Code Entertainment is producing the action movie, which is based on the real story of mobster Danny Greene (Stevenson). Hensleigh and Jeremy Walters ("Dali") wrote the script, inspired by the book "To Kill the Irishman: The War That Crippled the Mafia" by Rick Porrello. Greene was a violent Irish-American gangster who competed with the Italian mob in 1970s Cleveland and ended up provoking a countrywide turf war that crippled the mafia. Walken will play the loan shark and nightclub owner Shondor Birns, and Kilmer is a Cleveland police detective who befriends Greene. Code's Al Corley, Bart Rosenblatt and Eugene Musso are producing, along with Dundee Entertainment's Tommy Reid and Tara Reid, who brought the property to Code. Jonathan Dana, Peter Miller and Porrello are exec producers, with George Perez serving as co-producer. The production has also hired cinematographer Karl Walter Lindenlaub, production designer Patrizia von Brandenstein and editor Douglas Crise. Principal photography begins May 19 in Detroit. Lightning Entertainment will shop the project to international buyers at Cannes, while ICM and Dana handle domestic sales. The ICM-repped Hensleigh co-wrote and directed "The Punisher." The writer or co-writer of "Die Hard With a Vengeance" and "Jumanji" has the crime story "Nine Lives" in development with Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Walken and Kilmer are repped by ICM and Affirmative Entertainment. Stevenson is repped by Endeavor. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i9e2018c9ba716c85507f8bbdd64bcebc Nomad -- "Hello, ladies." Atia http://www.punishermovie.com/

I saw a link for that elsewhere as well (on Ray-Stevenson.com, I think...). Ray is hiding his light under a bushel with that wig and facial hair, and those fashions (UGH! Hahaha.). But I'm sure I'll still be madly attracted to him. -- Now...let's have some fun. I sent an email to my old Irish neighbor, the one I took step dancing lessons with at the IA. Well, she answered with dismay, that the new 'Danny Greene' was her cousin Kevin Kelley, snitching on people right left and center to get his 5 yr 10 mo sentence reduced in the federal pen. I couldn't beleive it! I remember playing with this sweet little boy... I still think we'll be meant to root for Danny. Look at Bonnie & Clyde, or out now, Johnny Depp as Dillinger? It can be done. For example, little Kevin Kelley's father did die tragically young, a hardship on any boy, and his mother quite young. We know Ray is capable, look how he pulled us in as Pullo, even as a murdering thug?

Although I spent 5 hours in he car today going to LACMA to see the Pompeii exhibit. Have you seen it? Wonderful, and the cafe had this special formaggio plate of three Italian cheeses with a fig compote and clover honey, so I made an afternoon out of it and loved everything BUT the traffic!!! I haven't and I live 15 minutes from the Museum. Bad girl, I know! I'll get there the first or second week of August for sure. Back to "The Irishman", I don't want to ruin it for anyone, but I wonder how they'll handle the not so Disney ending? I haven't read the script and I wonder this, as well. As a matter of fact, none of the people in the real story of Danny Greene are exactly admirable, least of all Greene. So I wonder who, if anybody, the writers want us to like, to root for? Perhaps no one, and we'll be left to ponder this slice of Americana and what it all means about us. Nomad -- "Hello, ladies." Atia http://www.punishermovie.com/

The Ten-Eleven Club was I'm sure a little too rough for me, besides I was only 15 or 16 in 1979, although making use of a fake ID (bad...) Now the Alhambra I've heard of, but as I was a West Sider, I didn't start going to East side clubs till the 80's. For such a small city, it's really weird how that whole East Side/West Side 'West Side Story' prejudice was so strong... still is to some from what I hear. At least now they have highways connecting quickly, but people I know think that 25 minutes to cross town is TOO much of a haul! Isn't that ridiculous? Although I spent 5 hours in he car today going to LACMA to see the Pompeii exhibit. Have you seen it? Sounds good! And Dragonfyre in particular, I met Danny Greene too, back in the days of the early 70's or possibly late 60's. My neighbors were Irish with 6 kids and never minded more tagging along. The 'mecca' for them (even now I think) was the Irish American Club, and when Danny Greene came in, you KNEW he was there. That presence Ray has. I wonder what nightclub Walken is supposed to have owned? In the movie "Almost Famous", where the young Cameron Crowe plays a travelling reporter with Rolling Stone Magazine, there are scenes in a place called "Swingos". No, it was not for 'swingers', but a hotel/restaurant owned by a guy named Jim Swingos. Practically every act that came to town stayed there, and I confess [ahem] to a few late nights meeting a few famous folks, first being The Kinks and last I believe, Adam Ant (ok, so some not so famous). Too bad for Cleveland Detroit got the shoot, as a city they are both pretty desperate for revenue. I haven't been back in 4 yrs, but last I saw on Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations" it looked shockingly desolate. Glad Ray got his top billed gig.

Unfortunately for Clevelanders, Michigan gives better tax incentives to film in their state than does Ohio. So Detroit got The Irishman gig. Today, there was filming in downtown Detroit. But I understand that principle photography begins next Tuesday. Sorry, Clevelanders! His Lordship just finished filming Book of Eli with Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman in Alberquerque, NM and then headed off to Detroit where both of his new films are being shot. Cleveland isn't that far from Detroit, is it? Nomad -- "Hello, ladies." Atia http://www.punishermovie.com/ -- Edited by nomad661 at 05/22/2009 10:35 PM PDT
