I have a question pertaining to Saturnalia. Most of us are familiar with the practice of slaves dressing up like their masters... oft-times there was a sort of role-reversal during the festival. Do any of my Romie friend know if only male slaves were involved. What about female slaves? Could they also dress as their mistresses? Does anyone know of any accounts describing the festival in detail. I wonder if this practice may have been halted in lieu of the Spartacan revolts. It just seems like it would have been risky to allow slaves that freedom in light of Spartacus' successes prior to Crassus and Pompey becoming involved. Thanks to whoever responds. I'm curious.
