Hey everybody! Wave to the google spiders....this thread is now on the first page of a google search for "Theatre of Pompey"! I wonder if Prof. Packard does google searches.....*straightens tie*, *Smooths hair* *Cheesy Smile*.....(He's kind of...one of my heroes.) (OK...I know....it's not really saying much....there's not that much on this subject and....three of the pages on the first google search page are mine....no wait, actualy there are four pages on the first google search page that I either started or have been nearly the exclusive editor on) Oh and there's something new I just found the other day. Something called Visual Wiki. It had the Wikipedia article but instead of the images from commons it uses a Youtube video. On the Pompey page it's using my video. That's not bragging...it's relief, because the automated program that links these videos didn't do such a great job on other subjects. It's just grabbing videos with the same titles. "Rostra" was funny! -- Edited by MarkMiller at 09/28/2009 2:34 PM PDT

Here is a pdf with some information and a map of where the park will be located. It's a green light. http://www.comune.roma.it/was/repository/ContentManagement/information/P973721810/Secondo%20polo%20brochure.pdf From what I am reading this has been in the works since 1997. It has finaly gotten to the building stages planned for the end of this year. It is supposed to have two thirds scale recreations of the coloseum and a Roman Amphetheatre (I am hoping for a recreation of the Theatre of Pompey) Originaly there was to be a ban in the park of all electric lighting (or at least hidden from public view) with all food served to be as similar to Roman food as possible. I don't se them serving doormice...but kind of a cool idea. -- Edited by MarkMiller at 09/16/2009 5:15 PM PDT

Has anyon heard about this? Ancient Rome Theme park from the sudio that made HBO Rome. Sounds fantastic to me! Another article I found said this; "The park would offer attractions based on life both in republican Rome, ending with the murder of Julius Caesar and civil war, and the power and might of the Roman Empire." The latest news seems to be; Roma Vetus Readying For Construction Roma Vetus Readying For Construction / $700 Mil Park To Have Film, Tv Sets By Nick Vivarelli Publication: The Hollywood Reporter Date: Tuesday, August 25 1998 "Construction is expected to begin by the end of this year on a $700 million ancient Rome theme park that is planned on a sprawling 145-acre site near Urbino, in central Italy. The complex, Roma Vetus, is also intended to serve as a set for movies and TV series. " How long will Rome take to be rebuilt....? LOL! I want to go! -- Edited by MarkMiller at 09/16/2009 4:57 PM PDT

Elare, a very nice suggestion. One of nicest stays in Italy was in Florence, at the Grand Hotel Minerva which is located almost next to one of my most favorite churches in Italy, Santa Maria Novella. Strongly recommended to those visiting Florence. Here are some links Grand Hotel Minerva http://www.grandhotelminerva.com/ As for one of the most important churches of the Renaissance, Santa Maria Novella, includes breakthrough frescoes from Massazio and Giotto and many other notable painters of the early Renaissance. The building was refurbished by the famous Vazzari.

I've often said The Pantheon my fave building in the world. I can also recommend the hotel Albergo del Sole al Pantheon, directly across from The Pantheon with excellent views, which also happens to be the oldest hotel in Rome. The website recommends calling them directly for the best prices, I can concur this works quite well, given prices for the city are high in general. All rooms are different, with high ceilings, and you get a VERY quiet night in the center of Rome due to the thick walls. Charming little breakfast too. There is supposed to be a suite with a patio view on top, although it was always booked. Makes me wistful! Albergo del Sole al Pantheon

You're most welcome, hyker! And thanks so much for that pantheon link, Mark! I love those Corinthian style columns, and a couple minutes in the really fantastic multi-colored marble shots of the interior came through. -- www.pollywalkeronline.com Now you are yourself, but not yourself; an ideal state for a meeting between lovers. -Vargtimmen

Awwww... shucks and golly-darn, Alexios. You're too cool. That was one of the nicest things you could say to me! Glad to see the site here waking up. Nice to see some older names visiting again. Welcome HOME, Romies! -- Fortune favors the bold.

Well then hyker, I'm selfishly glad that your dream probably won't be coming true, because I'm still looking forward to that novel! -- Edited by AlexiosTheFirst at 08/15/2009 1:09 PM PDT

Hmmmm. *ponders the Where Are They Now update* Hyker and Lady C write, direct, produce and star in their own travel show Ancient World Adventures. Elare is promoting her best-selling novel via appearances on Late Night, Larry King Live, John Stewart, and Colbert. She is accompanied in the green room by her book editor/Italian rock star boyfriend. Alkibiades retired on the royalties from her copywrited phrase Vengo, Vengo, Vengo! Mark, it's been awhile since I posted anything about it, but I had the pleasure of meeting and spending a whole afternoon with Walter Maioli of Synaulia. He actually assisted me with a portion of my Masters' Thesis. Fun memories! -- Fortune favors the bold.
