Marlene, thanks for clarification on down below. Saw the movie recently and rented the series DVDs before going (missed the Series when it was on.) Seeing the movie affected the way I viewed the Series and vice versa. Movie, a chick flick, Series didn't come off that way. Even with the strong female friendships. (Ex: Steve and Aidan opening the bar, male/female relationships, Charlotte and fertility problems with both husbands, etc.)

Clare, I am sorry that you feel that what the hosts are posting is mainly light talk. Our duties here as moderators is to monitor the use of the boards and make sure that the rules that HBO has set forth are being followed. We are also allowed to participate when we can and I have in no way seen any host try to redirect anyones negatives opinions on the movie into another direction. Everyone has a right to their opinions on this forum and as long as the rules set forth are followed, the posts remain. Please feel free to continue to offer your thoughts and feelings and that goes for all other posters too who choose to do so.

I was so pleased to see that Big was so sentimental about Carrie that he took the time to write the letters from the book she was reading and send them to her. He even sent his own little ode of love.
It was a far different Big than we had ever seen before. He definitely has learned from his mistakes and wasn't just sitting back this time. He was wearing his heart on his sleeve in hopes that she would forgive him.
What a guy!

Merce I'd love to chat with you about satc series and movie. Please feel welcome.
I just don't care for all that negative chatter when we are all excited after the movie. It's one thing for a poster to say they didn't like it but another to try and disrupt the upbeat feeling of the boards with negativity, on and on no matter what anyone else posts. And to make up other user iDs to make it seem as if they have agreement. Man is that so old. You can spot it a mile away.
Anyway, these comments weren't directed at you..... looking forward to your thoughts.

Thanks. All very confusing and not particularly a friendly place. I haven't used these forums until the last few weeks because I didn't know they existed. Also, no HBO in the house until a few months ago. As you know, HBO on demand played all the whole Seasons of SATC again--that's the first time I've ever seen them. Then saw the movie. Had a strong opinion from one to the other and there were lots of questions I had. Sorry if you all don't want posters who are digging and asking questions (of each other.) The hosts seems to want to just talk lightly and in a kind of silly girlie way (which is fine if that is what the posting is about--if it is off-limits to get into anything substantial. If it is, then it should say.) LLBailey has helped tremendously in reminding me of things that were watched so fast (because one whole season would be on HBO at once and not for very long.) I wanted to see the whole series (which I did) except for the father abandonment episode (very critical) in Season 4. I was shocked when I saw that and saw how it was handled because I considered the writing for the series top-rate.
Beachy has totally blown me off as if any question, any comment, anything negative (even on the member-created boards of "Disappointed in the Movie(: " she seemed to take offense to and wouldn't let the few posters on her chat or discouraged it. It's not like there are so many posters on her besides you hosts anyway!)
But I got figured out what was bugging me so and for good reason. The writing of the Series was very very good (but I NEVER saw the series when it was on HBO regular--didn't have HBO then!) Only recently--HBO on demand. There were two seasons that for some reason didn't cycle around and I got the those two season DVDs with free tickets (good marketing strategy because I saw the movie for free.) Still compared to the series, I was extremely disappointed in the movie (and the movie--my opinion which I think I'm entitled to--could have been significantly better. Well, I know it could have. It was too predicatable, went almost against the premise of the show of being on one's own to really wanting to get married. The movie glorified "the wedding"--it doesn't matter that the "wedding" after 2 and a half hours took place at the courthouse. Too much about the wedding which if there was one, I doubted Big would show up for anyway. (Until he knew he was truly going to lose her during those few months when she cut off connection--and not even realizing she'd done that even though she told her assistant to nix him from communication with her.) To me, Mr. Big is the "Ultimate Mr. Unavailable" as is on another site that is excellent and allows much conversation--it is hopping. Others can have their own opinions, hosts included. I'm not going to say, no you shouldn't post this or that.
But, I've sorted through this and as a therapist and someone who is concerned about a lot of my patients (and too bad Carrie couldn't be one, although we see many like her and the universities do too, have long waiting lists for students to get in, it's terrible--Carrie skipped out on the therapist as LLBailey pointed out.) Carrie didn't think she had a problem at all, even picked up a guy in the waiting room. But whatever.
Series--great writing Movie--terrible.
Thanks for listening and just because someone is new to the boards doesn't mean anything negative--how could I participate in this board if I had no idea it existed and didn't have HBO until a few months ago? I recall another poster a while back being treated the same way. It was Leister or something like that--being grilled about why she/he hadn't written anything lately if she/he was a "real" fan. It was very confusing and strange.
Again, thanks LLBailey--we managed to have a chat even with this other going on!
Thanks too Merce. I hope you all can figure out (as a group) to be more hospitable to new posters who have substantive things to say and to say to each other.

I registered years ago, and then kind of forgot about checking the boards or participating in the chats. When the movie was coming out, I was so excited about it and I looked for every scrap of info on it that I could find, and I rediscovered the boards. Sorry I missed all the back and forth chatting when the show was on the air. Better late than never?

ClareL:
These boards "are not just for the hosts"!!!
when the "old boards were in use" the *Adminstarator"
would *monitor" the conversations ~ not join in on them!!
Now the these "hosts" join in on the conversations.
They're for everyone.
I'm one of the "old posters" as is Beachy~we're just
wondering as to where some of the former posters are,
and all of the "newbies" are coming from.
If they the "newbies" loved the show so much then why
didn't they join in on the conversations before when the
series was first on HBO?????

Marlene: Oops...it seems that some of us posters here thought we could post...and it wasn't just for the hosts. Sorry Marlene, that wasn't clear at least to me. If it's just for hosts then I wish there was more clarification--I missed that, just thought hosts would say their opinion too.

When the show was in "it's zenith" these boards were
very busy and then after the finale we got some new posters~and then after I'd say six months the boards
changed.Between the finale & the time the boards
changed I experienced computer problems~came back,
the boards were still going "fairly strong" but some of the
old timers had gone.Back then we had 4 to 8 guys we
regularly talked with.
We also got many "troublemakers"& also lots of college
students who were doing term papers on the show~
if you read through the archives you'll find a thread I
made just for them!!

What you now see with what seems to be just the opinions
of the "hosts" is when HBO changed the format.

the series was never a problem here~ beleive me when
I say we used to "talk about each episode to till it was
all talked out"
I don't know about the writting in the film~ I did like the
series writing.Thought that the writing was very funny~
Loved "He's just not into you" or "Post It"
I was appalled at the idea of a guy breaking up with a
"post it note"~I remember saying to the screen when it
was on "Didn't your Mother teach you anything about
breaking up with a girl??"

If Big didn't want a wedding with 200 people all he had to do was say no. I won't be there if 200 people are invited. Most guys would say that if they thought that. Especially if they had the stature of Big. And Miranda's comment didn't need to upset Big. He knew already about the difficulties of marriage. No surprise. Big deal was made of it though.
Like Miranda ruined the wedding. BS.

Why have all the satc movie haters all registered on the 8th? Everyone who has never been here before saying the exact same thing? Same phrases same anomosity towards the hosts, same everything.
I think we may have a loose cannon.
Hosts please check the ips. Something fishy here. I've seen this before. Someone needs validation lol

Why is it on the boards where mostly guys comment, anything goes but on SATC boards seems only the hosts' point of view goes? Beats me. I agree with some comments here. The movie was no where near the Series and it turned me off. Series didn't. Movie did. Poor writing in my opinion. And what was with Miranda. Steve admits to a one night stand and she can't discuss it with him. Get more guys on this board and ask about no sex for six months and see what they have to say or Miranda's hurry up already and get it over with comment. Therapy session was a joke.
I didn't see Carrie with Big. With someone we don't yet know maybe, but not Big. He'd treated her like crap for too many years. Maybe there are a lot of women who go for that. Or are after his money. Who knows? But when I say the movie was terrible to me and I like the Series, why is that a problem here?

I think Big's proposal was very unique, very simple and plain but oh so romantic. We didn't need the big ring or the gaudy wedding to know how long they had waited to be together and how happy they were together.
The outragous apartment didn't even mean very much in the end. It wasn't about the flash and the glitter, it was about being together. As Big said " I just want you."
And everyone always thought Carrie was so label consious. There she was getting married in a plain vintage dress she got at a consignment shop.
As a pair they certainly had come a long way.

Now where do I find that danged ignore button? It's time to pull it out or punch it in, whatever. LOL
