Re: Characters and Relationships/Nate & His AVM

My name is Aaron and I found this show compelling from the very first episode. When I reached the last episode in the first season, watching it on DVD in early 2003, Nate's diagnosis with an AVM was powerful. I had just weeks before found out that I also had an AVM and every detail of Nate's experience was uncannily similar to mine; down to the way the doctors spoke to him and the nuances of dealing with family and such. I got to watch the rest of the show in real time as my own experience with the AVM unfolded. In the middle of 2003 I had a ruptured brain aneurysm that was caused by the AVM changing the blood flow at the base of my brain. This incredibly close brush to death and the time I spent in the ICU were the only break I took from the show before it ended so beautifully. It may not be for everyone, and I'm not even a heavy tv viewer, but it remains some of the most powerful and elegant "video" entertainment that I've ever seen. Thank you Alan Ball and everyone involved.

Nate: Borderline personality?
Mar 2, 2008 11:44 PM
|
Nate is, by far, my favorite character. He always fascinated me the most. Also, my friend is literally the exact same person pretty much. So, when he was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and when I began to learn more and more about the disorder, I thought of Nate... and wanted to pose this question to anyone. What do you think? My friend always adamantly said he really saw alot of himself in Nate. A whole lot. -- Edited by davidmackinnon at 03/02/2008 8:48 PM

cant agree more about kathy bates. she is absolutely exceptional and doesnt get the credit she deserves. she's awesome and i looked forward to seeing her on the show. love hearing her straightforward talk. but...nobody could have made a better claire then lauren. she was hands down my favorite character of all time. I cried so hard that last episode and in watching the special features on the last DVD i just really wish her the best of luck with her career. i cant tell enough people about how awesome the show is....

I could not agree MORE! I have always loved Kathy Bates, especially after her role in Misery. She is a very talented lady and I can not imagine a more perfect actress to play Bettina than her. The show was already fantastic, but adding her into the mix was icing on the cake.

I've read lots of posts and I don't see Kathy Bates getting the praise she deserves. She played Bettina, a character I was always glad to see show up, plus she directed (and wrote? not sure) many episodes. Megatalented lady!

Aww, I fell in love with this show right away. My boyfriend got me hooked, when its on, I want silence because every bit of this show is intriguing. I just wish I did watch it on HBO because man o man do I hate the commercials. The same like 3 commercials, lol. Bravo was brilliant though for bringing this show to life again! > I just watched the last episodes last night on BRAVO, > and I just wanted to take the opportunity to tell the > writers, the producers, the actors......what a > absolutely WONDERFUL show they've made! I don't think she should be made fun of for being pregnant or whatnot. I think it was a blessing it brought a great new story to the show. Go Rachel, for getting pregnant!

You have to give it to HBO, even if only for two shows. They gave us closure with six feet under, and I am hoping for the same with the upcoming sopranos finale. But the way carnivale, deadwood, rome, and other great shows got shit-canned, you should consider yourself lucky that they let us have 6 seasons with the fishers. HBO=MAS PUTO!!! -- Im a mushroom cloud layin motherfucker motherfucker.. "I wont be needing no fucking knife"

Sorry to say this guys but SFU will be missed for me too, can stop thinking about the last episode. I too love all the characters. Especially Keith. I thought I heard Bravo will be showing the series again next monday. The good things is we get to see the last 3 shows again on Saturday. Glad I'm not the only one feel this way about this show. Have not felt like this since. Little house on the Prairie, and that show cannot compare to this. WHY DID IT HAD TO END. nothing else to watch now. I would love to buy the whole series and shipped them to my uncle and mother who's been bickering for the last 15yrs over money.

I agree with you totally. Not that anything could ever replace Six Feet Under, but there is a great show on FX every Monday night, its called The Riches. It is really good, different and the acting is superb. You can see their website at FX, alot of people really like it. Anyway, I agree with you, I am so sad that Six Feet Under had to end, but it was an awesome show. True Genius.

I'm seriously bummed out! It finished, and I don't know about you guys, but I looked forward to every Monday! I knew, I would get to watch 3 new episodes (new for me, since I didn't get hooked when it was on HBO). Watching on Bravo was my own little routine. I know it would finish eventually, but NOT so soon! I mean, f*ck!! I fell in love w/all the characters! Especially the "kids". I loved, how they all had this transition, and I felt like I could identify with all of them at one point of their lives. It was such a phenomenal tidal wave, and I'm not ready to get out of the ocean...I want more! Dang it...sucks! Plus, all the crying from last night's shows don't help much today at work!

I just watched the last episodes last night on BRAVO, and I just wanted to take the opportunity to tell the writers, the producers, the actors......what a absolutely WONDERFUL show they've made! I feel like I've known all the characters and have now in a way lost them too. I cried so hard throughout the last episode but it was the last scenes of all their lives that had the most meaning to me. It summed up what life is all about from our youth to our death and our journeys of love and pain along the way, and how really short life is. I still can't stop crying! Salute!
