I agree with the idea of the ending being from Tony's point of view, and the foreshadowing discussion about "you never hear it coming" and how the show blacked out while he was watching Meadow enter the restaurant, and how there was no music which was the director's way of giving us a "moment of silence" in honor of Tony's death... But what doesn't make sense is (1) who would have whacked him? He made amends with the NY family and his only remaining enemy - Phil - was dead, and (2) who knew he was at that diner, except his immediate family? So are we to assume Carmella or AJ or Meadow had him whacked? That does not seem right. I think Tony is alive and the "mysterious" ending was just to give everyone something to speculate about. I have also heard that David Chase claims he will not make a movie, so the Sopranos is probably done and over with. Having said that, it was not a bad ending - the suspense of the last scene coupled with the "black-out" that left everyone wondering was clever.

We have been set up for a future movie. I hope it comes back all we need is the original family to build again. It killed off any one who didn't want to be tied into the future movie. -- Ilvyaal

I am not tecnically proficient, is this possible? I will have to watch it again tonight via On Demand -- i would hope that if some of it was indeed cut off on the live feed, it would have been corrected for the On Demand version

> well when i saw the ending i saw meadow walk in and > then it cut to black She never walks in. You assume she did. You see her approach the diner but never see her open a door, touch a door, nothing of the sort. The ding could have been anyone entering. Please watch on slow motion if you can.

I have a point of reference to back up my theory too. Just about every episode of Seinfeld. The characters sit at a booth, eat, drink and bvllshit. Then, they get up and life goes on. Just like in the final scene.

The topic of the cat: When my father passed away someone told us (Mother has cats) that back in the old (I mean old!)days when someone died someone had to basically keep watch because cats will start showing up. Cats are drawn to death. We used hospice in our home and sure enough the cats sat by his bed the nite before he died and while we were waiting for the funeral home to come to get him. We had to keep running them away. When I saw the cat staring at Chrissy I immediately thought of that. Paulie was sooo concerned about all of the Captains that was over that crew dying, he agrees to take the crew, and then the damn cat comes over to him. I think this is foreshadowing of Paulies death Just my opinion Kristie

I totally agree, we got whacked. The ending was perfectly timed and we just allowed ourselves to fall victim. From watching the clock & watching the scene, to hearing the song, on the edge of my seat, and then all goes to black. When the credits started, I could almost hear Chase saying "Gotcha" Kudos!

Here is a post from an online chat on WashingtonPost.com: Alexandria, Va.: So here is what I found out. The guy at the bar is also credited as Nikki Leotardo. The same actor played him in the first part of season 6 during a brief sit down concerning the future of Vito. That wasn't that long ago. Apparently, he is the nephew of Phil. Phil's brother Nikki Senior was killed in 1976 in a car accident. Absolutely genius!!! David Chase is truly rewarding the true fans who pay attention to detail. So the point would have been that life continues and we may never know the end of the Sopranos. But if you pay attention to the history, you will find that all the answers lie in the characters in the restaurant. The trucker was the brother of the guy who was robbed by Christopher in Season 2. Remember the DVD players? The trucker had to identify the body. The boy scouts were in the train store and the black guys at the end were the ones who tried to kill Tony and only clipped him in the ear (was that season 2 or 3?). Absolutely incredible!!! There were three people in the restaurant who had reason to kill Tony and then it just ends. This was Chase's way of proving that he will not escape his past. It will not go on forever despite that he would like it to "don't stop." Not the fans!!! Tony would like it to keep going but just as we have to say goodbye, so does he. No more Tony and I guess we are supposed to be happy that Meadow didn't get clipped as well (she would have been between the shooter and Tony) since she is the only one worth a crap in that family.

Excellent reference to "Owl Creek Bridge" adds validity to your theory.
