This, too, is from the Obama website: "Deploy Cellulosic Ethanol: Obama will invest federal resources, including tax incentives, cash prizes and government contracts into developing the most promising technologies with the goal of getting the first two billion gallons of cellulosic ethanol into the system by 2013." ***I'd like to read more about this from other links...I'll get back on it...

From the Obama website: Invest $150 Billion over 10 Years in Clean Energy: Obama will invest $150 billion over 10 years to advance the next generation of biofuels and fuel infrastructure, accelerate the commercialization of plug-in hybrids, promote development of commercial-scale renewable energy, invest in low-emissions coal plants, and begin the transition to a new digital electricity grid. A principal focus of this fund will be devoted to ensuring that technologies that are developed in the U.S. are rapidly commercialized in the U.S. and deployed around the globe. ***To me it sounds like an evolving plan...I'm still all ears, Neen...

However, > if the government would stop providing these > subsidies, then real alternatives to gasoline could > be developed. That would translate to no more money for both parties. ADM has contributed millions, if not billions, to all concerned parties. Also ADM is responsible for the imposed 54cent per gallon tariff on sugar-cane based ethanol from Brazil during the Carter Administration. ADM's tentacles are far reaching and solidly entrenched in DC. No one talks about the fact their corn ethanol plants in the MidWest are the dirtiest in terms of the environment. One plant, alone, produces 20,000 tons of pollutants including sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and volatile organic compounds which are known to cause cancer, heart disease, respiratory disease and acid rain. These coal fired plants are scattered throughout the MidWest and ADM is ranked #10 on the Toxic 100 list. ADM has paid millions in fines yet nothing is done to reduce the air pollutants. In fact they're stilling building coal fired plants to produce a product that is less energy efficient than cellulosic ethanol. ADM's propaganda aired on probably the most watched networks in terms of news, PBS, CBS, and NBC, have led the public to believe their corn ethanol is the cleaner, more energy efficient alternative. > > A case in point: > > Have you heard about a possible technology where > certain bacteria produce hydrogen up to 100 times > cheaper than is presently possible? > > How about the production of Diesel fuel from garbage > and other waste products? > > Both these much more viable (from and energy > standpoint) technolgies face the possibility of being > put on the back burner because of the lack of > funding...funding that is going toward ethanol. > > I'm for what is really going to work, not for what > will get me good press. > > -- > Prima di cercare > di guarire il mondo, > qui si tratta forse > di carpirci noi

Actually, you should be concerned. Federal subsidies given to big agro concernes, de facto puts the government in a position to support ethanol made from corn as a "true" alternative at the disadvantage of other, better alternatives. However, if the government would stop providing these subsidies, then real alternatives to gasoline could be developed. A case in point: Have you heard about a possible technology where certain bacteria produce hydrogen up to 100 times cheaper than is presently possible? How about the production of Diesel fuel from garbage and other waste products? Both these much more viable (from and energy standpoint) technolgies face the possibility of being put on the back burner because of the lack of funding...funding that is going toward ethanol. I'm for what is really going to work, not for what will get me good press. -- Prima di cercare di guarire il mondo, qui si tratta forse di carpirci noi
