"At The Movies" -- Our Cinema Memories & How They Connect Us To Other Films I am borrowing this concept that Glen used when he created the "86 Degrees of Music" Thread. (And, special acknowledgement to Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, from whom I borrowed the title of this thread.) How do we connect the movies we love? Movie Titles are cheap. How does one movie memory / recollection inspire another -- at least, for you, personally? I thought it would be fun, and interesting, if one person posted the name of a movie, and hopefully a clip, and talk about why they dug it or what struck them about it, or why it moved them, or made them laugh, etc Then the next person could post another movie title and hopefully another link / clip, if available -- based on your own impressions, and based on a connection to the movie posted by the previous person: Your follow-up choice could be a movie with the same theme, or film from the same genre, or by the same director, or starring the same actors -- whatever connection you think is important And, of course, talk about why THAT movie movied you or made you laugh, or just why you dug it. Okay, I will start: Woody Allen's "Annie Hall"

"Office Space" [If you've ever worked in an office, you can relate] Bob Porter: We're gonna be getting rid of these people here... First, Mr. Samir Naga... Naga... Naga... Not gonna work here anymore, anyway. ------------------------------------------- Bob Slydell: What is it you do here? Tom Smykowski: Well-well look. I already told you: I deal with the god damn customers so the engineers don't have to. I have people skills; I am good at dealing with people. Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people? ---------------------------------------- Peter Gibbons: What if we're still doin' this when we're 50? Samir: It would be nice to have that kind of job security. Peter Gibbons: Lumbergh's gonna have me work on Saturday. I can tell already. I'm gonna end up doin' it, because, uh...[nods] because I'm a big pussy... which is why I work at Initech to begin with. Michael Bolton: Uh, yeah, well, I work at Initech and I don't consider myself a pussy, OK? Samir: Yes, I am also not a pussy. ----------------------------------------- Michael Bolton: We get caught laundering money, we're not going to white-collar resort prison. No, no, no. We're going to federal POUND ME IN THE ASS prison. Samir: I don't want to go to ANY prison! ------------------------------------------------ Peter Gibbons: It's a problem of motivation, all right? Now if I work my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime; so where's the motivation? And here's something else, Bob: I have eight different bosses right now. Bob Slydell: I beg your pardon? Peter Gibbons: Eight bosses. Bob Slydell: Eight? Peter Gibbons: Eight, Bob. So that means that when I make a mistake, I have eight different people coming by to tell me about it. That's my only real motivation is not to be hassled; that, and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired. --------------------------------------------------- Peter Gibbons: Good luck with your layoffs, all right? I hope your firings go really well. ---------------------------------------- "Damn It Feels Good to Be a Gangsta"

The other night, CBS Broadcast "The AFI's Ten Top 10" -- the Top 10 films of all time, in each of ten genres -- mysteries, courtroom dramas, romantic comedies, etc. To Kill a Mockingbird, obviously, was named No 1 Courtroom drama, and of course is one of the greatest films of all time So I was reminded of this stirring scene were Atticus makes his closing argument: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24eL0cWwFxc&feature=related
