"Drive My Car" - Favorite Car Memories of Your Youth, Teens, College Days..

"Drive My Car" - Favorite Car Memories of Your Youth, Teens, College Days.....

Everyone has memories of the cars they loved when they were kids, teens, college students -- or when you got your first job and could finally buy some wheels of your own

What are some of your fondest memories of your favorite cars from your younger years? Maybe it was riding with your dad to the ice cream shop in a now-classic beauty -- like the big old cherry-red '67 Impala my step-dad owned.

Or that muscle car you cruised in as a high schooler -- like the used, midnight blue '72 Chevelle SS that one my best friends drove.

Or your first piece-of-shit car that at least transported you and your friends to those high school / college parties (mine was an old, used, '72 Plymouth Fury)

Or your first really cool or really nice car?

And feel free to tell any stories associated with these cars, even if it involves tales of now-embarrassing teen hi-jinks -- like underage boozing or driving into a ditch cos you just HAD to punch the pedal going into that curve out in the country.

And if you can find a link to a photo of one of these fine (or not so fine) old road machines, so much the better!

:)

Good choice! I always like alternative-culture viewpoints : )

>>I had a bohemian friend whose parents drove a royal blue Checker Cab as the family car.

Cool. You can't over-estimate the value of true eccentricity. Now I have to go find a pic of one of these and post it :)

Ah, I didn't mind earth shoes so much, in fact I owned a few pairs back in the day. They were definitely all the rage -- we all wore 'em. How can a half-million neo-hippies be wrong? Ha!

Sounds great. I learned how to drive a stick shift on a '78 Corolla owned by a friend of mine. Man, that car was bullet-proof

Ah, sausage and peppers. One of my downfalls.
What no Freaking lasagna or manicotti?
I'll do all that for Thanksgiving. I don't understand why we stuff ourselves on those days. LOL.

This is exceptionally weird, but as a teen I thought the coolest car was a Checker Cab. Not yellow like the taxi, but in a normal car color. I had a bohemian friend whose parents drove a royal blue Checker Cab as the family car. It was huge, boxy, cartoony really. I recognized that, as a cab, it was solid and could go for hundreds of thousands of miles. Far from the typical female teen's dream car ideal, almost fugly like an Earth Shoe.

A cool car I owned was a really early Toyota, a 1971 Mark IV, which was the predecessor of the Celica, I think. Candy apple red, no air conditioning, stick shift, ran like a top, super styling almost like a Raymond Loewy design. A beaut.

We could also expand this concept to include your thoughts on what your favorite cars are -- what, in your opinion, are the coolest / best cars out there?

You know, based on whatever criteria is most important to you -- most stylish, best performer, best value, most practical, highest quality?

Or what your "dream car" would be -- either if money was no object.....Or, if it WAS.

My day was filling. Went to my in-laws for a non-stop food fest.....crackers-n-cheese, veggie platter, wings, ribs, then later came Chicken & saugage-n-peppers (hot and sweet), anti-pasta salad, bacon and beans.

I'm so full, I can't eat for the next 2 days....

So, how was everybody's day today. Care to share what you did?

It seems every time I turn around it's another "Special Day." I'm getting a little tired of them. I need a break! :_|
We all decided to do our own thing during the day and meet for cake and coffee later on. It was great. Nobody had to knock themselves out cooking, cleaning up, etc.
